Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Memory Foam Mattress Review (2025)

Brooklyn Bedding recently added the CopperFlex, an affordable all-foam mattress, to its diverse and growing lineup of beds. For sleep science coaches like me, the introduction of a new mattress to the market is an exciting time. It means I get to don my trusty purple pajamas, head into our Charlotte, NC, sleep studio, and see how this new option stacks up to the more than 500 mattresses the Mattress Clarity team has tested.

The CopperFlex’s unique brown and blue color scheme immediately caught my eye and made me eager to try it out. Upon lying on it, I quickly gathered that it was firmer than average and lacked many of the bells and whistles of higher-end options. However, considering you can bring a queen-size CopperFlex to your bedroom for under $700, a utilitarian design approach is understandable, especially if it means Brooklyn Bedding built this bed with durable, quality materials.

So, is the CopperFlex an all-star addition to the Brooklyn Bedding mattress lineup, or should it be sent back to the minor leagues? Come along as I jump, flip, flop, and cut right into the CopperFlex to see if it’s right for you—and hopefully add to the list of 4,600+ people whom Mattress Clarity has helped to buy a new bed.

Pros of the CopperFlex
For a foam mattress, the CopperFlex has strong edges. They impressed our testing team by refusing to buckle much when we sat on them or laid down near them.
Foam mattresses often have a lot of give and sink to them, but this bed is extraordinarily firm, making it a good fit for back sleepers.
It’s very affordable, and yet it has more layers than your standard all-foam bed.
Cons of the CopperFlex
It’s so firm that side sleepers probably won’t love it—they need more cushion for their hips and shoulders.
We didn’t feel much cooling happening when we tested it, despite the copper and gel infusions.

The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex is firmer than you might expect from an all-foam bed, but that bouncy, solid feel felt great to our tests when they tried it on their backs. Their sides were a different story—too firm for that!—and it didn’t cool down quite as well as we’d hoped. At the end of the day, though, this is a great bed to buy if you’re on a budget and want lots of support.

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Memory Foam Performance: My Overall Rating

With some help from fellow testers, I took the CopperFlex through a series of tests to gauge how this bed performed and what kind of sleeper it was best suited for. When all was said and done, this mattress received an overall rating of 3.7 out of 5, shining brightly in edge support but falling short in cooling.

However, if you don’t tend to struggle with temperature regulation at night and appreciate a firm, affordable mattress made with quality materials, the CopperFlex could be a solid fit.

I Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex For…

  • Those looking for an affordable bed – You can bring a queen-sized CopperFlex home for $665 before any discounts.
  • Seniors and others with mobility issues – The CopperFlex has fantastic edge support that should make it easy and safe for those with mobility issues to get in and out of bed.
  • Stomach sleepers – With above-average firmness and solid support, stomach sleepers should benefit from how this mattress elevates their hips and gives them fantastic spinal alignment, which can help prevent back pain.

I Don’t Recommend the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlexFor…

  • Traditional memory foam fans – Although the CopperFlex is an all-foam bed and not an innerspring or hybrid mattress, it lacks the soft, slow-sinking feeling of traditional memory foam.
  • Side sleepers – If you prefer to sleep on your side, you’ll likely find this mattress too firm, leading to increased pressure on your hips and shoulders.
  • Folks wanting a luxurious sleeping environment – The CopperFlex is a budget-friendly option; as such, it is not constructed with luxury features.

How Firm is the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Mattress?

7.5/10 mattress firmness on a scale

The CopperFlex is a firm bed, making it a good choice for many heavyweight and stomach sleepers. The upper comfort layer provides some light cushioning, but the dense, heavy-duty foam is the star of this show.

We rank beds on a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being like sleeping on a cotton ball and a 10 reminding you of a park bench. However, the beds we test generally fall between 5 and 9, with 6.5 being medium-firm. It should be noted that firmness is somewhat subjective and can vary depending on weight and sleep position.

Mattress expert Kayla Godfrey falls in our average-weight category, and she rated the CopperFlex’s firmness at 7.5 for back and stomach sleeping and an 8 for side sleeping. She said, “I don’t love the CopperFlex when I am on my side. There’s no sinkage on my hips and shoulders, and I feel some pressure. However, it is much better on my back. The firmness isn’t as harsh, and it’s doing a great job lifting my hips and supporting my lower back.”

As for stomach sleepers, Kayla said that she felt very supported around her midsection and appreciated the spinal alignment but cautioned that the mattress may have too much of a firm feel through the chest for some stomach sleepers.

How Does the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Feel for Different Body Types and Sleeping Positions?

A mattress can feel significantly different to a 120-pound sleeper and one weighing in at 235 pounds. Also, your preferred sleeping position impacts how  firm and supportive your bed feels, as well. Therefore, we gathered light, average, and heavy mattress experts and asked them to try out the CopperFlex on their side, back, and stomach.

Sleeper WeightSide SleepersBack SleepersStomach Sleepers
Light (under 130 lbs)UnpleasantExcellentGood
Average (130-230 lbs)UnpleasantExcellentUnpleasant
Heavy (over 230 lbs)GoodExcellentExcellent

Heavyweight Tester – 6’7”, 270 lbs

“Typically, as a bigger guy, I need more support in my lumbar area and on my back. I felt really good on this mattress. It does feel a little soft to me overall, but it’s providing great alignment throughout my body,” said Marten Carlson, lead mattress reviewer.

Average-weight Tester – 5’9”, 140 lbs

Although Kayla Godrey, mattress expert, liked that the CopperFlex kept her hips elevated and supported her lower body when she was on her stomach, she didn’t love this mattress for average-weight stomach sleepers. “It was too firm on my chest, and I felt a lot of pressure forming there,” Kayla said.

Lightweight Tester – 5’5”, 120 lbs

“This isn’t the best mattress for side sleeping if you are lightweight because it feels very firm. My spine is aligned, but the lack of cushioning is causing pressure relief. It’s not hugging me or contouring around my joints at all,” said Mattress Clarity’s lightweight product tester.

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex In-Depth Test Results

Pressure Relief

Pressure Relief – 3.7

Our mattresses absorb our body weight for long periods each night. If your bed doesn’t provide proper pressure relief, it can cause discomfort in your joints and even back pain. Considering that the amount of pressure a person feels significantly depends on their body weight and preferred sleeping position, we collect hands-on evaluations and data-driven pressure maps of lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight sleepers on their back and sides to get a well-rounded overall score.

When the back and side scores were tallied, the CopperFlex received a 3.7/5 for pressure relief, comparable to the average pressure relief scores of 3.5 for side sleepers and 4.0 for those who prefer to snooze on their backs. Body weight didn’t affect our tester’s feelings about this mattress for side sleeping, as they all felt increased discomfort at their pressure points because of the firmness of this mattress.

However, when they flipped to their backs, the pressure relief was better for all three of them, but it shined brightest for Marten, our heavyweight tester. “My spinal alignment is great because my hips and shoulders are on the same level,” Marten said. “Although it’s a firm bed, it feels really good on my back.”

Edge Support

Edge Support – 4

Edge support is an important feature for couples who like to spread out and want to feel as supported along the perimeter as they do in the middle of the bed. Sturdy edges can also benefit seniors or those with mobility issues when getting in and out of bed. The CopperFlex is a front runner when it comes to edge support, receiving a 4/5 in this category.

Our tester Kayla said the bed didn’t spring her out of it from a sitting position, but she felt secure and thought it was easy to get in and out of bed. Although she noticed some slight sinkage from the top layers when she placed her full seated weight on it, she didn’t think this would be an issue for most people. When Kayla lay down on the edge of the CopperFlex, she felt very secure. “I don’t feel like I will roll off at all. I think couples can spread out the whole surface of the bed,” she said.

Cooling

Cooling – 3

Hot sleepers in search of a cooling mattress will likely want to avoid the CopperFlex, as the all-foam construction holds onto body heat. After taking an initial surface temperature of the bed with a thermal temperature gun, tester Kaya lay on the mattress for seven minutes and then took another temperature reading.

When she compared the two, she saw that the mattress temperature increased by over 10 degrees, going from 66.1 degrees F to 76.8 degrees F. Although she stated that she wasn’t uncomfortably hot, she did notice the mattress heating up while she was on it. When we evaluated the rise in temperature and Kayla’s feedback, we settled on a score of 3/5 for the CopperFlex’s cooling performance and lack of added cooling features.

Motion Isolation

Motion Isolation – 4

My husband’s intense flipping and flopping at night can sometimes make it feel like I am sharing a bed with a fish on land. When staying at friends’ homes, I have even been known to check the type of guest bed we’re sleeping in so I’ll know how likely I am to end up on the couch. If I peeled back the sheet to find a CopperFlex, I would feel pretty good about my chances of remaining in the bed.

We test motion isolation in two parts — the ripple test and the couple’s motion test. With the ripple test, we place a glass of water on one side, get in and out of bed, and switch positions. When tester Kayla got in and out of bed, the water moved around some but did not slosh out of the cup. However, there was much more water motion when she rolled around and changed positions. Although no water escaped, the glass started tipping to one side.

For the couple’s motion test, Kayla slid on a sleep mask, and another tester mimicked a partner getting in and out of bed and switching positions. Although she could tell when her fellow mattress expert entered the bed and when they turned over, it didn’t jostle her. “The CopperFlex did a nice job absorbing [motion] and preventing me from feeling too much disturbance,” Kayla said.

The CopperFlex’s motion isolation performance landed it a 4/5, which is slightly higher than the average score in this category.

Response

Response – 3

If you’ve ever felt awkwardly stuck in layers of foam when you are trying to reposition, your mattress is likely not very responsive. We rate the responsiveness by placing a 43-pound kettlebell on the mattress and letting it rest for seven seconds. When the time is up, we pull the kettlebell off and time how long it takes for the mattress to return to its original shape. The CopperFlex took 2.4 seconds to inflate back to its full size, which is a bit longer than average.

However, when Kayla rolled and switched positions on top of the bed, she found it “super easy to move around.” It felt to her like combination sleepers would have an easy time changing things up as they snoozed. We averaged the results of these two tests to give the CopperFlex a 3 in responsiveness.

Sinkage: Moderate

We also measure how far the bed sinks down in the bed by measuring the depth that it sinks when the kettlebell is applied. The CopperFlex sank 2.88 inches, which is less than average, but still in the moderate zone.

Bounce

Bounce – 5

Innerspring and hybrid mattresses are better known for their bounce, but you can really catch some air on this all-foam model. We tested the CopperFlex’s ability to spring up after weight is dropped on it by plopping a weighted medicine ball from six feet and recording how high it went on our measuring stick. The ball propelled 22.25 inches upwards once it hit the mattress, earning it a 5 out of 5 in this category.

Noise

Noise – 5

If you are a light sleeper easily awakened by noises, you won’t have to worry about any of them coming from the CopperFlex. This bed is ninja silent and earned a perfect 5/5 for this category. I rolled around and even plopped down on it, and I didn’t hear any squeaking or air expulsion.

Sex

The CopperFlex is sturdy but not plush. From repositioning on the bed during testing, I think that it would do very well in this aspect of sex. Because it has such a firm feel, you will not have to worry about your flow being interrupted by feeling stuck in your mattress, which also suggests the bed is good for combination sleepers who move around throughout the night. However, if you want an inviting bed with a soft place to land, this is not the bed for you.

Adjustable Base Compatibility

I tested the CopperFlex’s adjustable base compatibility with the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Luxe Adjustable Base. Although the manufacturer states its adjustable base works with all of their mattresses, I wouldn’t recommend using the CopperFlex with it.

When the base was in the lounge or TV setting, there was a considerable gap between the mattress and the base, making it unstable. Additionally, the bed was so firm that when it was adjusting, it pushed into my back so much that I felt like I was in a trash compactor. When I fully lowered the bed, it was 4 to 6 inches off the base at the foot.

This bed is technically compatible with an adjustable base, though, and it does flex enough to move with it. It just wasn’t the seamless experience I’d hoped for.

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Customer Experience Scores

Buying a new mattress online is a different experience than picking one out in a brick-and-mortar store. In addition to testing how a mattress will perform, we also let you know what kind of customer experience you can expect with your CopperFlex bed-in-a-box by breaking down its trial period, warranty, and accessibility.

Trial Period

Trial Period – 4

With most online mattresses, you don’t have a chance to try them out beforehand. To circumvent this, most manufacturers offer a sleep trial, lasting from 30 days to a year, to allow shoppers to try out their mattresses before making a final decision. In addition to providing a time frame for trying it out, trial period information usually also spells out the minimum amount of time you will need to keep the information and any costs and arrangements required for returning your mattress if you decide to do so.

The CopperFlex gives you a 120-night trial period to sleep on it before deciding whether to keep it or ship it back. Although this isn’t as long as manufacturers that allow you to sleep on a bed for 365 nights, we feel that four months is still a sufficient amount of time to make an informed decision, and that is why we gave this bed a 4/5 for the trial period.

Warranty

Warranty – 5

The CopperFlex comes with a limited lifetime warranty covering material and workmanship defects. For the first 10 years from the original purchase date, Brooklyn Bedding will repair and replace any defective mattress at no cost to the buyer. However, in year 11, this coverage becomes prorated.  We were impressed that this budget-friendly mattress had such a substantial warranty and awarded it a 5/5.

Unboxing and Moving

Unboxing & Moving – 4

When the CopperFlex arrived at our sleep studio, the box was in good condition and was pretty easy to open. Although I could have cut the plastic away and unraveled it myself, I asked someone to help me to make it easier and faster. As a pair, we had no issues hauling the rolled-up mattress, so I gave it a score of 4/5 for unboxing and moving.

Readiness After Unboxing

Readiness After Unboxing – 5

As soon as we cut the thick plastic encasing the mattress, the CopperFlex began to expand. It took about two hours for the mattress to fully inflate, earning it a 5/5 for how quickly it went from bed-in-a-box to a bed you can sleep on.

Off-gassing

Off-gassing – 4

As with many mattresses that arrive compressed and rolled into a box, the CopperFlex had a slight chemical smell to it at first, but it dissipated in 24 hours. However, I am not sensitive to smells. Those who are may need to give this mattress 48 hours to be scent-free. Taking this into consideration, I gave this mattress a 4/5 for off-gassing.

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Construction

In addition to running the CopperFlex through a series of tests, we also do a deep dive into its construction. We measured the height of the mattress, and our testers cut a section from the cover on the side to get a close-up look at the materials encased in them.

Mattress Height & Weight

The all-foam CopperFlex is 12” tall and weighs approximately 115 pounds.

Materials

The mattress comprises six layers of different kinds of foam. It is covered with a soft quilt foam with an athletic jersey feel.

Layers

A woman examines the internal foam layers of the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex mattress

In addition to the one-inch quilt foam cover, the CopperFex has five internal layers. The first layer is made up of two inches of copper-infused memory foam to provide pressure relief. It also has antimicrobial properties.

Under that, you find a gel swirl memory foam layer for immediate responsiveness and cooling elements. The gel foam sits atop a 1.5-inch lumbar support layer designed to ensure proper spinal alignment. This is followed by another 1.5 inches of VariFlex transition foam that enhances contouring and provides additional support. The final layer is 4.5 inches of sturdy, high-density support foam that brings durability and balance to the CopperFlex.

How to Try and Buy the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Mattress

How the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Compares

The CopperFlex has a lot to offer in the way of affordability and durability. However, if you are a side sleeper, prefer a plusher mattress, like the slow-sinking feel of traditional memory foam, you may want to consider these other options.

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex vs. Saatva Contour5

The CopperFlex and Saatva Contour5 are both all-foam models. However, that is basically where the similarities stop. The CopperFlex is an extremely affordable mattress that has a utilitarian feel to it. The Contour5 is one of the most luxurious all-foam mattresses available and it has the price tag to prove it.

Both beds are great choices for lightweight and average-weight back sleepers. However, heavyweight back sleepers will likely not get the support they need on the Contour5, but they should on with the CopperFlex. The Contour5 outperforms the CopperFlex on motion transfer but falls behind its cheaper counterpart on edge support and response.

An image of a man sleeping on his side on top of the Saatva Contour5.

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex vs. Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid

The Signature Hybrid is a hybrid model offered by the CopperFlex’s manufacturer, Brooklyn Bedding. The company is known for producing high-quality beds at affordable prices. Brooklyn is able to do this because it owns and operates its own manufacturing facility, which helps cut down on costs.

The Signature Hybrid is a good bed for isolating motion, which is a terrific feature if you sleep with a restless partner or pet. Although the CopperFlex does a pretty good job when it comes to this, the Signature gets the nod for couples.

An image of Marten sleeping on his side while on top of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex vs. Bear Elite Hybrid

The Bear Elite is constructed with foam and innerspring coils, which is different from the CopperFlex’s layers of foam of varying firmness levels. Both beds provide excellent edge support, but the Bear Elite is an excellent choice for side sleepers, while the CopperFlex doesn’t provide enough contouring for those with this preferred sleeping position.

Although the CopperFlex does a commendable cooling job for an all-foam bed, it doesn’t stack up to the cooling capabilities of the Bear Elite’s Hybrid Construction. You’ll find that the CopperFlex costs less than the Bear Elite, but we both think both of them offer great value.
