Tempur-Cloud Mattress Overview

The Tempur-Cloud is a seemingly straightforward mattress – it features three layers, two of which contain high-density Tempur material. While many Tempur-Pedic mattresses aren’t always the most affordable, the Tempur-Cloud is competitively priced at $1999 for a Queen size. It promises to provide the soft comfort consumers have come to expect from Tempur-Pedic mattresses, but for a more affordable price. That being said, the Tempur-Cloud mattress is still going to be a better fit for some people and not the best fit for others: Who Might Like The Tempur-Cloud?
  • Those who need one of the best mattresses for side sleepers
  • Fans of a mattress with super slow-moving memory foam feel
  • Those who are looking for a reasonably priced Tempur-Pedic mattress
Who Might Not Like The Tempur-Cloud?
  • Stomach sleepers and those who need a more supportive mattress
  • People with mobility issues and those who require a more responsive mattress
  • Those who want to spend much less on a new mattress

Tempur-Cloud Mattress Video Review

Want to see exactly what the Tempur-Cloud looks like in action? Well, take a look at our in-depth video review; our reviewer, Marten tries the mattress out and shows just how it performs under pressure!

Tempur-Cloud Mattress Firmness And Feel

Firmness and feel are two things that every shopper should consider when looking for a new mattress. Since online shoppers can’t try the Tempur-Cloud in a store, we’re here to talk about how it felt for us!

How Firm Is The Tempur-Cloud?

In our experience, the Tempur-Cloud felt like a 6.5/10, medium firm – that top layer of Tempur material really us sink in. As the company says, the Tempur-Cloud will take a few weeks to completely “break in.” Basically, the Tempur-Cloud might feel firmer at first, but it will soften up and provide even better comfort after those first few weeks.

Sleeping On The Tempur-Cloud

Back sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud is oh so comfortable – we feel our bodies sink into the mattress, but we are also receiving excellent support. The Tempur material really conforms to the shape of our bodies and fills in all the gaps. Side sleeping, the Tempur-Cloud is also extremely comfy – we sink into that thick layer of Tempur material and feel almost no pressure on our shoulders and hips. Tempurpedic mattresses are known for offering some of the best pressure relief out there, and the Tempur-Cloud did not disappoint. Tempur-Cloud - Side Sleeping However, when we are stomach sleeping, the Tempur-Cloud is not really working for us – we can feel our hips bowing into the mattress and this could lead to some lower back pain. Stomach sleepers are probably going to want to find a firmer more supportive mattress with less soft comfort material right on top.

What Does The Tempur-Cloud Feel Like?

When a lot of people think of that classic memory foam feel, they think of the Tempurpedic mattresses. Well, we’re happy to report that the Tempur-Cloud has this comfortable Tempurpedic feel. Lying down on the Tempur-Cloud we sink in so slowly and really feel the Tempur material conforms to every curve of the body. Because it moves so slowly, the Tempur-Cloud does not make it easy for us to move around and change positions at night. People who have serious mobility issues or prefer a bouncy mattress might not love the feel of the Tempur-Cloud. Make sure to see our list of the best memory foam mattresses for more like the Tempur-Cloud.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Average weight sleepers should like the Tempur-Cloud for both back sleeping and side sleeping. The mattress should provide them with the necessary amount of comfort and support for both positions. Unless they are closer to 130 lbs, they probably won’t get enough support for stomach sleeping.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

When they are back sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud mattress, those who are closer to 230 lbs should get enough support. However, those who are close to 300 lbs or more might want to find a mattress that incorporates coils in its construction. Side sleeping, a good deal of heavyweight people should feel little pressure on their shoulders and hips. However, if they are much heavier (over 300 lbs), they could “bottom out” on this mattress and feel significant discomfort in those areas. The Tempur-Cloud will probably not be the best mattress for heavy people who sleep on their stomachs. They will most likely want to seek out a firmer mattress overall.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

Lightweight back sleepers will undoubtedly like lying on the Tempur-Cloud mattress. It might feel firm at first but, after a few weeks of use lightweight back sleepers should experience an excellent balance of comfort and support. Side sleeping, they might feel like the mattress is too firm right off the bat. Again, the mattress is going to soften up, so don’t worry! Stomach sleeping, the mattress might be supportive enough for some very light stomach sleepers. That being said, if they are closer to 130 lbs, they are going need something to give them enough support under their hips.

Tempur-Cloud Mattress Construction

So, what exact material did we find in the Tempur-Cloud mattress? Let’s discuss each layer of the Tempur-Cloud mattress one-by-one.

Cover

The Tempur-Cloud features something called a 360 cover – it soft and designed to be quite breathable.

Comfort Layers

The top layer of the Tempur-Cloud is, that’s right, Tempur material. This is the soft, pressure-relieving memory foam that really put Tempur-Pedic on the map. While the company says it is a new formulation, it feels very similar to other Tempur-Pedic mattresses we have tried. Tempur-Cloud Mattress - Construction Below that, there is a layer of firmer Tempur material that acts as a transition layer and adds even more pressure relief to the top of the mattress. This is there to ensure sleepers don’t “bottom out” or simply drop through the mattress.

Support Layer

The top two layers of the Tempur-Cloud rest on a firm, supportive base foam.

Mattress Height

The Tempur-Cloud mattress is 10″ tall.

Tempur-Cloud Mattress Size Options And Price

For the most up-to-date size and pricing information for the Tempur-Cloud take a look at the following chart:
Size Dimensions Price

Twin Long 38″ x 80″ $1699.00
Full 53″ x 74″ $1899.00

Tempur-Cloud Mattress Performance

We tested out the Tempur-Cloud with regard to cooling, motion transfer, and durability – keep reading to see how it scored!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

The Tempur-Cloud features multiple layers of thick, high-density memory foam. This material is great for pressure relief but not always the best with cooling. We personally felt like the mattress trapped some serious heat, and we did feel quite warm when we were sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud.

Motion Transfer

In all honesty, the Tempur-Cloud isolates motion better than pretty much any other mattress we have tested. The Tempur material is extremely slow-moving and really absorbs any movement. When our reviewer, Marten, lay on one side of the mattress and we asked Danny to move around on the other side, he felt none of Danny’s movements. Sleeping partners who are worried about disturbing each other at night should definitely take a look at the Tempur-Cloud mattress. Check out our best mattresses for couples for more beds that isolate motion well.

Edge Support

Edge support is also an important consideration for couples as it allows each partner to get the most room possible. The Tempur-Cloud does feature some nice edge support and we feel secure when we are sitting and lying down near the edge of the mattress. This is surprising, given that it is an all-foam mattress, but the high-density foam must really be fortifying the edge. Tempur-Cloud Mattress - Edge Support

Durability

The Tempur material found in the Tempur-Cloud is an extremely durable material and, unlike other types of memory foam, shouldn’t sag too quickly. Tempur-Pedic mattresses sometimes cost more than other memory foam mattresses, but they are often a better long-term investment. Make sure to see our best mattresses that won’t sag for more like the Tempur-Cloud.

Off-gassing

The Tempur-Cloud is a bed in a box memory foam mattress so, yes, there is going to be some off-gassing. We did notice some of that standard chemical smell when we unboxed the Tempur-Cloud, but it did dissipate after 48 hours.

Noise

Rolling around on the Tempur-Cloud, it makes no real noise at all. This isn’t surprising given that the mattress only features high-density foams.

Sex

The Tempur-Cloud might not be the best mattress for sex because it is not very responsive. Sexual partners might find it difficult to move around on the Tempur-Cloud during intercourse.

Warranty Info

The Tempur-Cloud comes with a 90-night sleep trial as well as a 10-year warranty.

How Does The Tempur-Cloud Compare To Other Mattresses?

Ready to do some comparison shopping? Let’s see how the Tempur-Cloud stacks up to its major competitors.

Tempur-Cloud Vs Purple

The Tempur-Cloud and Purple feature some different materials, namely in their comfort layers. As we have discussed, the  Tempur-Cloud features two layers of Tempur material. The Purple features a hyper-elastic gel grid that is extremely unique. Right off the bat, these materials give both mattresses a different feel. The Tempur-Cloud has more of that slow-moving memory foam feel, and the Purple has a squishy gel feel that is firm and pressure-relieving at the same time. Purple Mattress - Gel Grid Speaking of firmness, we found the Tempur-Cloud to be softer than the Purple mattress. However, the firmness of both mattresses will really depend on the weight of the person sleeping on them. On one hand, the Tempur-Cloud might feel softer to lightweight sleepers and firmer to heavier sleepers who sink too far into the mattress. On the other, the Purple might feel firmer to lightweight sleepers and softer to heavier sleepers who are large enough to activate the gel grid on top. There is also a major price difference between the two mattresses – for a Queen, the Tempur-Cloud costs $1999, and the Purple costs $1149. Based on these differences, the Tempur-Cloud and Purple are going to work better for different types of people. The Tempur-Cloud should be better for medium-weight side sleepers and fans of memory foam. The Purple should be a better option for heavier side sleepers, hot sleepers, and those who want to spend less money on their mattress. See our Purple vs Tempur-Pedic comparison for more about these two mattresses.

Tempur-Cloud Vs Casper

The Tempur-Cloud and Casper are both all-foam mattresses look pretty similar at first glance. The main difference is the materials that are found in the comfort layers of both mattresses. The Tempur-Cloud features two layers of Tempur material, and the Casper features responsive polyfoam over zoned memory foam. Casper Mattress - Construction And Foam Layers This is going to give each mattress a different feel – the Tempur-Cloud has more of a classic memory foam feel and the Casper mattress has more of a responsive, balanced foam feel. In terms of firmness, we found the Tempur-Cloud to be softer than the Casper, and the Casper also feels firmer or softer depending on one’s sleeping position (because of the zoning). Finally, there is a big price difference between the two mattresses – for a Queen, the Tempur-Cloud costs $1999, and the Casper costs $1095. So, the Tempur-Cloud is going to be a good choice for side sleepers, fans of slow-moving memory foam, and those who want a higher-end mattress. The Casper will be a better choice for sleepers who need more lumbar support, fans of bouncier mattresses, and those who want to spend less money. Make sure to see our Tempur-Pedic vs Casper comparison for more about the similarities and differences between these two mattresses.
