How We Choose Our Products
Here at Mattress Clarity, our team of sleep experts have assessed over 150 sleep accessories, including a variety of sheets, with proprietary hands-on testing. When I test sheets, I put them on my bed at home and sleep on them for several days. I also pay close attention to the sheets’ overall feel, durability, price point, and cooling features.
When it comes to sheets, preferences are just as varied as weave styles and fabrics. Because of this, “most comfortable” will look different from person to person. This list encompasses all these preferences by including a wide variety of materials. But no matter what the sheets are made of, in order to make the cut, the product had to score high in comfort.

Bamboo fabric feels soft and silk-like. It’s also very breathable and moisture-wicking, so you won’t feel hot and sweaty with these sheets. Cotton sheets come in a few different styles. But if you’re looking for hotel-quality, luxury sheets, look no further than the Saatva Organic Sateen sheets.
There are two weave styles for cotton sheets: percale and sateen. The Saatva sheets have a sateen weave, which makes them feel ultra soft and satin-like.
The cotton that Saatva uses is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. This means that the cotton has met rigorous standards that prove that it was grown in an ethical and responsible way and without harsh chemicals. This makes it a great pick for those who are wanting to use organic products for their bedding.
What We Love About the Saatva Organic Sateen Sheets
- The cotton fibers are woven into a sateen weave, which gives the sheets a soft, satin-like texture.
- With a GOTS certification, those who are concerned with using products that are certified organic can rest easy.
- These sheets have a lightweight feel, and cotton is known for its breathability. This makes them a good choice for hot sleepers.
What to Keep In Mind About the Saatva Organic Sateen Sheets
- These sheets are only offered in three colors: white, ivory, and grey. For some, this might not be enough color variety, especially if they’re trying to match a specific color scheme.
- At full price, a queen-size set is $275. For some, this might be out of budget.

Sleeping with comfortable sheets shouldn’t mean you have to shell out a couple hundred dollars. And while some pricey sheets are on this list, the Brooklyn Bedding Brushed Microfiber sheets aren’t one of them.
These sheets contain polyester, which is more affordable than natural fabrics like cotton and bamboo. But these Brooklyn Bedding sheets are still high-quality. Brooklyn bedding uses brushed polyester, which means the material has a soft, velvety texture.
What We Love About the Brooklyn Bedding Brushed Microfiber Sheets
- This is a great option for budget-minded shoppers, as all sizes cost under $50.
- The microfibers have been brushed, giving these sheets a soft, velvety feel. This makes for a cozy night of sleep.

If you want a set of sheets to dress your queen-size bed, the Birch Organic sheets stand out for their buttery soft feel. This is another sateen cotton sheet set, giving them that luxurious satin-like look and feel on your bed. They are great for giving you a comfortable, cool night’s sleep because of the lower thread count and breathable cotton.
They have a few neutral shades available for those wanting a bit of variety. And eco-conscious shoppers can rest assured that the cotton is 100% organic, featuring a GOTS certification. Birch offers a one-year warranty on these sheets, but with good care, cotton sheets can last several years.

- Birch uses high-quality, GOTS-certified, organic cotton. This is the gold standard for organic products and makes them a good choice for eco-conscious shoppers.
- They’re breathable and temperature-regulating, making them a good pick for year-round use.
What to Keep In Mind About the Birch Organic Sheets

Most Comfortable Flannel – Brooklinen Flannel Core Sheet Set
Brooklinen Brushed Flannel Sheets
The Brooklinen Brushed Flannel sheets are warm and cozy. They’re a great match for those colder nights.
Mattress Clarity Score
4.70 / 5
Our Expert’s Take
Flannels are great for keeping you nice and cozy in the colder months, but if you want something that’s good for year-round use, the Brooklinen Flannel Core Sheet Set is for you. Brooklinen uses breathable cotton fibers that have been double brushed, giving these sheets a soft, fuzzy texture. This makes them a winner for those who tend to get cold quickly or those who live in cooler climates.
Flannels feel thicker than most standard cotton sheets. If you’re someone who lives in a warmer climate and doesn’t like to bundle up when the temperature starts to go down, just using the top sheet by itself should still keep you warm and cozy.
What We Love about the Brooklinen Flannel Sheets
- Brooklinen uses brushed cotton, which gives the sheets a fuzzy texture and a thicker feeling.
- They are made without harsh chemicals and have an OEKO-TEX certification to prove it.
- Brooklinen offers these sheets in a variety of colors and patterns.
What to Keep In Mind About the Brooklinen Flannel Sheets
- Exceptionally hot sleepers may want something thinner and not as warm. These sheets have some breathability, but they aren’t intended to be a cooling set of sheets.
- Because of the slight fuzzy texture to these sheets, they might be prone to pilling after multiple washes.

If you’re new to linens, the thing you have to know about them is that they have a slight texture to them. For some, this can be exactly what they’re looking for. The Avocado Organic Linen sheets have a coarse texture, but because the flax is high-quality, it doesn’t feel itchy and scratchy. In fact, these sheets should get softer with each wash.
Linen sheets are also great for hot sleepers for several reasons. Linens are made from flax, which is a very breathable material that’s also moisture-wicking. This means the sheets will keep you from feeling hot and sweaty while you sleep with them.
What We Love About the Avocado Organic Linen Sheets
- Linens do have a texture to them, but the Avocado linens feel very soft and comfortable. These sheets will also get softer with each wash.
- The flax is breathable and moisture-wicking, meaning these sheets will stay cool. And a cool night of sleep is key for staying comfortable.
- Avocado uses 100% certified organic materials and follows eco-friendly business practices.
What to Keep In Mind About the Avocado Organic Linen Sheets
- While these sheets should get softer and smoother with time, if you’re not sure textured sheets are for you, it’s best to opt for something that’s completely smooth.
- At full price, a queen-size set of sheets costs about $500. Avocado does include these sheets in seasonal discounts, and you can finance the purchase, but these aren’t the most budget-friendly sheets.

What is the Most Comfortable Thread Count for Sheets?
Believe it or not, thread count isn’t the biggest indicator of a high-quality set of sheets. Thread count impacts two main factors of a sheet’s performance: breathability and feel.
There’s no “one-size-fits all” type of answer to this, but below, I’ve added a brief breakdown of what thread count range you should look for based on the material of sheets you’re looking at.
- Cotton – 200-400
- Egyptian cotton – 400-700
- Cotton sateen – 400-600
- Cotton percale – 200-300
- Bamboo – 300-400
- Tencel lyocell/eucalyptus – 300
As you can see, cotton has a wide range of recommended thread counts, so it’s important to take into account what type of cotton sheets you’re purchasing.
If you want more information, be sure to check out our full guide on the best thread count for sheets.
How to Make Your Sheets More Comfortable
Some sheets right out of the packaging will feel crisp, stiff, and not very comfortable. And even quality sheets might feel that way. One quick way to make them feel instantly comfortable is to wash them before your first use.
There are brands that will pre-wash sheets before shipping, but many sheets aren’t as they move through the production process. Washing them is an easy way to remove that factory feel.
Some sheets are intended to be crisp, but will get softer the more you use and wash them. It’s more of a long game effort, but the longer you use sheets, the softer they’ll get. Many people also turn to fabric softener in the wash to help make sheets more comfortable as well.

Why Are Hotel Sheets So Comfortable?
There is something to be said about walking into a hotel room and seeing a pristine set of sheets on the bed. Hotels tend to use percale sheet sets due to their durability and general lightweight construction. Luxury hotels can invest in higher-quality materials, just like Egyptian cotton sheets for example, which is often praised for its soft feel.
Hotels might also invest in high thread counts sheets, which as mentioned, makes sheets feel much softer than those with lower thread counts.

The Most Comfortable Sheets FAQs
Are linen sheets comfortable?
Linen sheets might not be for everyone due to one thing: their texture. Yes it’s true, linens do have a slight coarse texture to them, but high-quality linens won’t feel uncomfortable.
In addition to the Avocado Organic Linens featured on this list, some soft, comfortable options include the Saatva Linen sheets and the Brooklinen Linen Core sheet set.
For those who love soft linen sheets, you can even opt for the Brooklinen Hardcore Bundle which includes extra pillowcases and a duvet cover.
Are bamboo sheets comfortable?
Personally, bamboo–also called bamboo viscose, viscose, or rayon– sheets are my favorite type of sheets to use. They feel silky smooth, and keep me from overheating during the night. The set of bamboo sheets I use are the Puffy Bamboo sheets, but be sure to check out our list of the best bamboo sheets for more options.
Are microfiber sheets comfortable?
Despite being made of synthetic materials, yes. Microfiber, or polyester, sheets are the most accessible type of sheets on the market and are often the most affordable.
These sheets are great for people who are looking for comfort while also on a budget, as you can find microfiber sheets at any major retailer.
