Best Overall – LUXOME Luxury Sheets
LUXOME Luxury Sheet Set
The LUXOME Luxury Sheet Set offers 400 thread count bamboo for sleepers who want soft, cool bedding.
Mattress Clarity Score
4.90 / 5
Our Expert’s Take
If you like silky, luxurious sheets, the LUXOME sheet set might be for you. They’re made from 100% bamboo viscose, which is naturally breathable and moisture-wicking. When I curled up in these sheets, I didn’t feel hot or stuffy.
These sheets aren’t just cooling–they’re also high-quality. These sheets are OEKO-Tex certified, which means they were made without any harmful chemicals. Plus, bamboo is a naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial material.
These sheets have a thread count of 400, which is partly why they allow so much room for airflow. Because these sheets don’t have a thick weave pattern, they feel light and airy.
What We Love About the LUXOME Luxury Sheets
- Bamboo sheets are known for feeling soft and silky. The LUXOME sheets are no exception. The bamboo is also woven into a sateen weave to create a soft, smooth texture.
- These sheets have the added benefit of being both breathable and moisture-wicking. This means that the LUXOME sheets will be able to keep you cool and dry while you sleep.
- LUXOME offers this sheet set in a wide variety of colors.
What to Keep In Mind About the LUXOME Luxury Sheets
- For those that aren’t accustomed to bamboo sheets, these might feel a little slick in comparison to other materials like cotton and linen.
- While these sheets are great for hot sleepers, they might not be thick enough for those that get cold quickly or live in cooler climates.

There are a few different types of cotton used for sheets. For traditional cotton, we love the Boll & Branch set. These sheets are favored by past presidents, after all. It’s been rumored that Bill Clinton and George W. Bush used and endorsed these sheets.
Cotton is a traditional material to use in sheets, but it often feels rather crisp. While the Boll & Branch sheets are made out of 100% organic cotton, the cotton is spun to give these sheets a softer feel. They might have a crisp feel at first, but they’ll get softer with use.
The fitted sheet has deep pockets and can fit mattresses up to 17” tall. This is great for people who toss and turn and don’t want to fuss with readjusting the fitted sheet.
Hot sleepers will enjoy the breathable cotton in these sheets. With a 300 thread count, there should be plenty of room for airflow.
What We Love About the Boll & Branch Sheets
- They’re made of 100% organic cotton and feel slightly crisp at first. But the cotton is spun in a way to make them a bit softer than other cotton sheets.
- Boll & Branch offers more than just classic white color options, so these sheets should work for a variety of bedroom aesthetics.
- These sheets are made with lightweight cotton and have a low thread count, which makes them feel breathable and cool.
What to Keep In Mind About the Boll & Branch Sheets
- Even thought these sheets get sofer with time, some might prefer the silk-like or satin-like feel of other sheet materials, such as bamboo or TENCEL.
- At full price, these sheets cost about $280, which might not fit every budget.

Our Expert’s Take
If you’re the type of person who gets cold quickly, flannel sheets are the way to go. Flannel sheets are made with a technique called “napping,” which gives it a fuzzy texture. Because of this, flannel sheets are great for keeping you warm.
Flannel can be made with a variety of materials, and the Brooklinen flannel sheets are made from cotton. The brushed feel leaves these sheets feeling very soft and cozy. These sheets are made from lightweight flannel, so they are a bit more breathable than many others on the market. With these sheets, you should feel warm, but not stuffy.

- The Brooklinen flannel sheets feel soft and fuzzy.
- Flannel is good for keeping you warm, but this set of sheets are more lightweight, so you’ll feel comfortably warm rather than hot and stuffy.

What To Consider When Buying Sheets
There’s a lot to consider when looking for a new set of sheets. Let’s take a look at some of the key factors before clicking that “check out” button.
Materials
Not all materials that go into making sheets feel the same. Cotton is a common material that feels crisp to the touch. But when blended with other materials, it can make the sheets feel a bit softer.
Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic, which is great if you have sensitive allergies. Sheets made with bamboo viscose tend to be much softer than cotton as well. Overall, cotton and bamboo are both great options for hot sleepers.
Linens and flannels will also feel much different. The Avocado Organic Linen sheets feel textured, and the Casper Flannel sheets are made of brushed cotton, giving them a fuzzier feel.
It’s best to know how sheets should feel before buying something you haven’t felt before!
Weave
The most common weave styles you’ll see in sheets are percale and sateen.
The percale weave is often a looser weave style, and will leave sheets feeling rather crisp and looking matte. We typically see percale weaves in sheets made with cotton. Because it’s a bit more open, percale sheets will be able to let air flow in a bit easier.
The sateen weave is a tighter weave, but it leaves sheets feeling much softer and with a satin feeling. Cotton can be woven with this weave, and we see it with bamboo as well. Because of its closer knit, sateen sheets may trap heat a little more than percale sheets.
To learn more about the differences between percale vs sateen sheets, we’ve got a whole guide for you!
Care
Most sheets by now are machine washable. But not every type of sheet can be washed and dried the same way.
It’s important to pay attention to what the manufacturer recommends. Often they’ll suggest what water temperature to wash in, what cycle to use, and if you should avoid bleach or fabric softener.
Some of the sheets on this list are also recommended to be line dried. This might not be feasible for everybody. One way to do so if you live in a small space might be by draping the sheets over your shower curtain rod. Most of the time, the dryer will be an option as well.
Price
Prices always vary, and it depends on the type of weave, materials used, and how those materials are treated in the making of the sheets.
Some more luxury sets on this list are the Cozy Earth Bamboo sheets and the Avocado Organic Linen sheets. More goes into these sheets to make them eco-friendly and the companies go out of their way to remove toxins and harmful chemicals in treating the materials that go into their sheets.
More expensive doesn’t always mean better. The Brooklyn Bedding and the Tuft & Needle sets are on the more affordable end of the price spectrum, but are still high quality sheets.
What’s the Best Material for Sheets?
There’s no one best material for sheets. Most of the time it boils down to personal preference. Let’s take a moment to talk about some of the different materials out there and what makes them stand apart from one another.
Cotton
There are many different types of cotton on the market, from standard cotton to Egyptian and Supima cotton. You’ll see these types of cotton a lot, as cotton is a fairly standard material to make fabrics with.
Overall, cotton sheets will feel crisp to start, but will get softer with use. Some people like that crisp feel to their sheets, and cotton is the main material to give that feel.
Egyptian and Supima cotton are grown in different circumstances, and are typically a little bit more durable than standard cotton.
Bamboo
As a textbook hot sleeper, I really love bamboo sheets. One of the main features to bamboo sheets is that they’re moisture-wicking. This means you won’t sleep hot and sweaty during the night.
If you suffer from sensitive allergies, bamboo sheets are a great pick because they’re naturally hypoallergenic. Bamboo viscose can fight common allergens and resist dust in your sleep environment.
Overall, they feel much more soft and satin-like over cotton sheets.
Tencel
Another plant based fabric is Tencel, also referred to as Tencel lyocell, or just lyocell. It’s a material that’s derived from eucalyptus. Like bamboo, it has natural moisture-wicking properties to it. Sheets made with this material are a great option for hot sleepers out there.
RELATED: Eucalyptus vs. Bamboo Sheets
Others
Linens are some of the oldest style sheets out there, and can feel more textured than some of the other materials. Overall, linen sheets are weightier and more durable than cotton.
Flannels are great at retaining heat because of the way they’re made. The fabric is napped and brushed, which gives it a fuzzy feel. If you get cold quickly, flannels might be a great option to go with.

FAQs
What’s the best thread count for sheets?
Contrary to popular belief, there’s no one “best” thread count for sheets. You’ve got to take into consideration the type of material used, and whether or not you’re a hot sleeper. As a general range, anywhere from 200 to 800 is considered a good thread count. But certain materials have recommended thread counts. Read our best thread count for sheets article to learn more.
What is the best type of sheet?
Here at Mattress Clarity, we love cotton and bamboo sheets. These are great materials for hot sleepers, because they’re breathable and don’t trap heat often.
But always remember, what you prefer will influence what you think is the best type of sheet.
How long do sheets last?
Any good sheet set should last you at a minimum a year. Bamboo viscose is known to last at least five years, so material plays a role here, too. But here are some general tips you can do to make your sheets last longer:
- Mild detergents will be much kinder to your sheets, and you should avoid pouring detergent directly on them.
- Don’t dry on a high heat. Typically, if you dry your sheets too hot, you run the risk of shrinking them.
How often should you change your sheets?
It’s recommended that you wash your sheets at least once a week. Washing your sheets is just part of good hygiene. Because you can produce sweat while you sleep, and if you share your bed with a partner or pets, sheets can get dirty fairly quickly.
