Firmness And Feel Differences

Now, let’s talk about the firmness and feel differences and this affects the performance of each mattress.

How Firm Are The WinkBed And WinkBed Plus Mattresses?

The WinkBed Luxury Firm mattress has a firmness of 7/10, which is just firmer than average. The plush pillow top combines with multiple layers of foam and tall coils to create a balance of comfort and support. If you opt for the Softer or Firmer models, you can get more and less plushness.

The WinkBed Plus feels closer to 7.5/10, firmer than the WinkBed Luxury Firm. With the addition of natural latex and more supportive coils, the Plus doesn’t let me sink in as far as I did on the WinkBed Luxury Firm.

Sleeping On The WinkBed And WinkBed Plus Mattresses

WinkBed

When I slept on my back on the WinkBed Luxury Firm mattress, I felt very comfortable. The mattress was just a tad firmer than average and kept my spine neutrally aligned as I slept. I also felt the bed’s zoning provided extra support under my lumbar area.

A man sleeps on his back on the WinkBed

Side sleeping, I experienced a bit of pressure around my shoulders and hips. However, I weigh 270 lb, and lighter people should feel better pressure relief than I did. Also, if you just sleep on your side, take a look at the WinkBed Softer.

Stomach sleeping, I also wanted some more support under my hips. I could feel them sinking down into the mattress, causing some strain in my lower back. Stomach sleepers will mostly likely prefer the Firmer model.

WinkBed Plus

Back sleeping, I received even more support from the WinkBed Plus. The coils are designed to handle more weight and a zoned latex layer provides even more support under my lumbar area.

Side sleeping, I felt some more pressure on my shoulders and hips. Again, I weigh 270 lb, and the Plus is rated for much more weight. If you weigh over 300 lb, you could compress these top layers more than I did and feel better pressure relief.

Stomach sleeping, the WinkBed Plus was a better match than the WinkBed Luxury Firm. The added firmness and zoned latex kept my hips elevated.

What Do The WinkBed And WinkBed Plus Feel Like?

The WinkBed and WinkBed Plus are both bouncy mattresses. The coils are very responsive so, even with their plusher top layers, the WinkBed mattresses are easy to move around and change positions on.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Average weight back sleepers will prefer the WinkBed Luxury Firm unless they like something very firm. The WinkBed Plus might feel too firm for most average weight back sleepers.

Side sleeping, people in this weight range will like the WinkBed Luxury Firm. The WinkBed Plus will create too much pressure around the shoulders and hips.

Stomach sleepers who are average weight will get more support from the WinkBed Plus. However, the WinkBed Luxury Firm should still be supportive enough for average weight stomach sleepers.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

In general, the WinkBed Plus will be the better choice for heavyweight back, side, and stomach sleepers. Those who weigh less than 300 lb should get enough support from the Luxury Firm, but those who weigh more should opt for the Plus. Also, for more options, check out our best mattresses for heavy people.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

The WinkBed Plus is not made with lightweight people in mind. Unless you sleep on your stomach or like something very firm, you can save money by going with the WinkBed Softer, Luxury Firm, or Firmer.

WinkBed And WinkBed Plus Performance Differences

I tested the WinkBed Luxury Firm and WinkBed Plus to see how they performed with regard to cooling, edge support, and other criteria.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The WinkBed and WinkBed Plus mattresses both feature coils that promote airflow through the bottom part of the mattress. The Tencel covers are moisture-wicking and help draw heat away from your body. The WinkBed also features gel-infused memory foam, and the WinkBed Plus boasts natural latex foam. Both are materials that shouldn’t trap too much heat.

Overall, you shouldn’t be sleeping hot on either mattress. See our best cooling mattresses for more options.

Motion Transfer

Poor motion transfer in mattresses can make it difficult for partners to sleep together. When one partner moves around on their side of the mattress, the motion transfers across the mattress, which can disturb the other partner. So, those who want a mattress for couples will want something that isolates this motion.

While the Plus is a bit bouncier, these mattresses handle motion transfer the same. Bouncier mattresses aren’t the best at absorbing motion, and I did see some transfer during my tests. However, lying down on one side of the mattress, I did not feel it too much when someone moved around on the other side.

Edge Support

The WinkBed mattresses feature excellent edge support. Sitting and lying down near the edge of both mattresses, I didn’t feel like I was going to roll off.

A man sits near the edge of the WinkBed

This means that sleeping partners will be able to lie all the way toward the edge and really use the full surface area of the mattress. They should be good mattresses for couples in this respect.

Durability

The WinkBed and WinkBed Plus both contain high-density foams and high-grade coils. Based on their construction, both mattresses should last for at least 10 years.

Off-gassing

The WinkBed and WinkBed Plus are bed-in-a-box mattresses, and I did experience some off-gassing with both. This chemical smell is normal with online mattresses, and the smell went away after 48 hours.

Noise

The WinkBed mattresses feature coils, but trying them out new, they made no noise. However, coil mattresses might start to squeak and make noise after you have had them for many years.

Sex

If you want a mattress for sex, you should find something that is bouncy and responsive. The WinkBed and WinkBed Luxury Firm are bouncy and will make it easy for sexual partners to change positions and move around.

Let’s take a closer look at WinkBeds’ fine print.
