Firmness and Feel Differences
Let check out the firmness and feel of these two mattresses!
How Firm Are the Sealy Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Pedic Mattresses?
The Sealy mattress is a medium-firm mattress. On the mattress firmness scale, it’s a 6.5/10 which is average in the mattress industry. The top layers offer a soft foam feel, but because it’s a hybrid, you also get plenty of support from the coils underneath. They also have a firm option available.
The TEMPUR-Cloud is a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, making it a medium firm mattress as well. This mattress can take a couple weeks to break in, so it might feel firmer at first and then soften over time.
Sleeping On the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress and TEMPUR-Pedic Mattress
The Posturepedic mattress is a good option for most back and side sleepers. Back sleepers should find the lumbar support they need while side sleepers should feel relief on the pressure points. However, stomach sleepers should choose the firm option so they get enough support.
The TEMPUR-Pedic is a great option for almost all back sleepers. Most side sleepers should find good support on this mattress as well, though lightweight side sleepers might find the mattress feels too firm. The TEMPUR-Cloud is too soft for most stomach sleepers. It is, however, a great option for those who change sleeping positions because it’s easy to move around on.
What Do the Sealy Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Pedic Mattresses Feel Like?
The Posturepedic offers a balanced, foam feel. When you press your hand into the material, it takes a long time for it to snap back into place. This creates fantastic motion isolation, which is especially beneficial for couples. The bottom layers give the mattress a nice bounce.
The TEMPUR-Cloud, on the other hand, will give you a nice, soft feel. TEMPUR is the material most people think about when they imagine memory foam. In fact, this material was first invented for NASA and is known for its high quality construction. Since this mattress is made of TEMPUR material, you’ll really sink into it.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
The Sealy Posturepedic is a great option for average weight back sleepers. These folks should find great body contouring and support. Average weight side sleepers should find good pressure relief, though they may sink too far into the mattress over time and develop some shoulder pain. The Posturepedic is too soft and won’t provide enough support for average weight stomach sleepers.
The TEMPUR-Cloud should be a good option for average weight back and side sleepers. The mattress provides enough comfort and support for both these sleep positions. However, most average weight stomach sleepers will not find enough support from the TEMPUR-Cloud.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Sealy Posturepedic should provide enough support for heavier back sleepers. However, those who are closer to 300lbs might sink too far into the mattress. Heavier side sleepers will find this mattress an ideal choice as they’ll sink far enough into this pressure-relieving mattress. However, heavier stomach sleepers will find this mattress too soft and might develop lower back pain overtime.
Back sleepers closer to 230lbs should find enough support on the TEMPUR-Cloud. Those closer to 300lbs might want to find a mattress with a coil system for more support. For side sleepers weighing close to 300lbs, this mattress may create pressure along shoulders and hips. People in this category may “bottom out” on the TEMPUR-Cloud and should instead look for one of the best mattresses for heavy people. Larger stomach sleepers should look for a firmer mattress.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Lightweight back sleepers will find great support on the Sealy Posturepedic. Lightweight side sleepers, however, may not compress the dense memory foam at the top. This could cause pain along pressure points over time. While lighter stomach sleepers might find this to be a good option, most will find this mattress too soft.
The TEMPUR-Cloud is a good option for lightweight back sleepers. While it might feel too firm at first, they will sink down and find excellent support after a few weeks. It’s a similar story for lightweight side sleepers. The mattress might be too firm at first, but after a few weeks, they’ll find an excellent balance of comfort and support. Some lightweight stomach sleepers might feel the TEMPUR-Cloud offers enough support, but those who weight more than 130lbs should look at the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
Mattress Construction Differences
These two mattress have some construction differences as well. Let’s see what they’re all about.
Posturepedic
Layer
Description
Cover
The Sealy Posturepedic has a stretch knit cover. It has cooling fibers and antimicrobial tech to make sure you don’t sleep too hot at night.
Comfort Layer #1
The first comfort layer is made out of ComfortSense gel-infused foam. This helps promote airflow and works to relieve pressure throughout the night.
Comfort Layer # 2
Next, you’ll find a transition layer made of supportive foam.
Support Layer #1
The Posturepedic’s first support layer is made of encased coils. This adds support and creates a bouncy feel. It also improves the edge support, making you feel more secure if you sleep on the side of the bed.
Support Layer #2
At the bottom is a base layer of gel foam, which adds extra support.
TEMPUR-Pedic
Layer
Description
Cover
The TEMPUR-Cloud features a 360 stretch cover. It feels soft and breathable.
Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is made out of the company’s proprietary TEMPUR material. This gives the mattress a classic memory foam feel.
Support Layer
The TEMPUR-Cloud’s support layer consists of high-density base foam.

The TEMPUR-Cloud is shorter at 10” tall.

Sealy Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Pedic Performance Differences
The Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Pedic perform quite differently. Let’s look into which mattress is better for couples, which is better for hot sleepers, and more.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Sealy Posturepedic is perfect for hot sleepers. Because of the cooling gel memory foam and cooling fibers, you’ll find this a cool and breathable mattress.
The TEMPUR-Cloud might not sleep as cold as the Posturepedic, but it does have a breathable cover to help with airflow. Since the TEMPUR-Pedic is made of layers of memory foam, extremely hot sleepers might consider the Posturepedic instead.
Motion Transfer
The memory foam in the Posturepedic isolates motion well. If you sleep with a partner, you shouldn’t feel them if they toss and turn during the night.
While the Posturepedic does a good job eliminating motion transfer, the TEMPUR-Cloud wins out. The all foam mattress will isolate motion slightly better.
Edge Support
The Posturepedic has excellent edge support. Because it has innerspring coils, you will feel supported if you sit on the edge of the bed or sleep near the edge.
Because the TEMPUR-Pedic is an all-foam mattress, it won’t have as good of edge support as the Posturepedic. However, if you lie near the edge, you should feel supported.
Durability
Both these mattresses are durable, but the Posturepedic’s coils give it a longer lifespan.
Off-Gassing
When you unbox a new mattress, it’s common to notice a slight chemical smell. We call this off-gassing, and it was present with both beds.
The Posturepedic will off-gas a bit, but it will dissipate after 48 hours. Since the TEMPUR-Cloud is a bed-in-a-box mattress, there will be some off-gassing with this mattress too. However it will dissipate after 48 hours.
Noise
The Posturepedic is not a noisy mattress, though overtime the coils might start to squeak.
The TEMPUR-Cloud mattress will not make as much noise since it’s an all-foam mattress.
Sex
Since the Posturepedic is not very responsive, it wouldn’t be the one of the best mattresses for sex. However due to the bounciness of its coils, it will be easier to move around on than the TEMPUR-Pedic.
The TEMPUR-Pedic is even less responsive than the Posturepedic. It might be difficult for partners to move around on the TEMPUR-Cloud during intercourse.
Company Policies
Still deciding which should be your new mattress? Let’s look at the warranties, sleep trial periods, and return policies on these mattresses.
Warranty Info
Both the Posturepedic and TEMPUR-Cloud have a 10-year warranty.
Sleep Trial
The Posturepedic has a 100 night sleep trial.
The TEMPUR-Cloud sleep trial is 10 nights shorter with a 90 night sleep trial.
Return Policy
Both these mattresses have free shipping and returns.
