Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Review: General Overview
The Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress ticks a lot of boxes. It’s made with the brand’s proprietary AirFoam, which is designed to improve pressure relief while keeping you cool while delivering plenty of cushioning comfort. You can find this material in all of the brand’s mattresses, but in the Original Hybrid, it’s paired with a layer of eight-inch steel coils for maximum durability and ergonomic support. Curious if this could be the mattress for you? Let’s break down the mattress’s pros and cons.
Pros of the Nolah Original Hybrid Comfort Mattress
- It’s an excellent mattress for lightweight and average-weight side sleepers, who will benefit from the balance of cushioning and zoned support.
- Back sleepers in all weight ranges will also fare well, thanks to plenty of push-back support.
- The hybrid construction and cooling materials make it a solid option for hot sleepers.
- It offers great edge support.
Cons of the Nolah Original Hybrid Comfort Mattress
- With a slightly softer-than-average firmness, it lacks the support most dedicated stomach sleepers need.
- We noticed off-gassing when we first opened the box, which took a few days to clear.

Nolah Original Hybrid Firmness and Feel
The firmness and feel of a mattress are two of the biggest indicators of comfort, so they’re both important considerations when you’re shopping for a new mattress.
How Firm is the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress?
I ranked the Nolah Original Hybrid a 6/10 on our firmness scale, which means it’s just a bit softer than what’s considered average. Keep in mind that individual body types affect how firm a mattress feels. I weigh 270 pounds, and I found the top-foam layers and coils in the Nolah had enough give that I sank in just a bit. Lighter sleepers may find the mattress feels a bit firmer than I did.
Sleeping on the Nolah Original Hybrid Hybrid Mattress
Back sleeping was solid on the Nolah Original Hybrid mattress. I could have used a bit more support under my lumbar area, but people who weigh less than me shouldn’t have this issue.
Side sleeping felt fantastic. I compressed the top layers and felt the mattress hug my shoulders and hips. I felt almost no pressure on my shoulders and hips. The mattress is zoned to be softer under these areas, so this is no surprise.
When I flipped to my stomach, I found the Nolah slightly lacking in hip support. I noticed some strain in my lower back when I was lying in this position.
What Does the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Feel Like?
The Nolah Original Hybrid has a bouncy hybrid feel with a slightly cushioning, pillow-top feel. It’s responsive enough to move around on easily, which is great if you’re someone who routinely changes position throughout the night.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (under 130 lbs) | Excellent | Excellent | Excellent |
Average (130 – 230 lbs) | Excellent | Good | Good |
Heavyweight (over 230 lbs) | Fair | Good | Poor |
Is the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?
- Lightweight sleepers can expect excellent support in all sleep positions.
Is the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Good For Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?
- Average-weight back sleepers will feel a great balance of comfort and support on the Original Hybrid.
- Average-weight side sleepers can expect good pressure relief, so it’s a good match for people in this category.
- This mattress also works well for average-weight stomach sleepers, who can expect enough support in the hips to help prevent lower back strain.
Is the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?
- Heavyweight back sleepers can expect decent support from the coil layer, but those who weigh over 300 lbs will need more support to sleep comfortably.
- The same is true of side sleepers, but those in the higher weight ranges should consider a mattress like the Titan Plus Luxe that’s specifically designed for their needs.
- It’s not a great choice for heavyweight stomach sleepers, who will feel their hips dipping far too low, which may cause back pain over time.
Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Construction
Now that we’ve covered how the mattress feels, let’s break down all five layers.
Cover
The Nolah Original Hybrid has an ultra-soft cover that’s made with botanic-origin Tencel. The sustainable material is naturally moisture-wicking and breathable, allowing air to circulate.
Comfort Layers
The uppermost comfort layer is made with zoned AirFoam. This contouring material is built to boost pressure relief and responsiveness. It’s also breathable and temperature neutral, which is a big selling point over traditional memory foam. And, because it’s zoned, it feels firmer under the lumbar area and softer under the shoulders and hips. That’s ideal for side sleepers, back sleepers, and those who struggle with back pain.
In the next layer, transition foam helps with motion isolation and keeps you from sinking too far into the mattress. It also reinforces the AirFoam layer above it.
Support Layers
In the third layer, there are eight-inch individually wrapped coils that are zoned for targeted support (another perk for side sleepers in particular). They also give the mattress its impressive edge support.
At the base of the mattress is a recycled fiber mattress pad, which adds durability and offers support to the coil layer above.
Mattress Height
The Nolah Original Hybrid mattress is 11” thick.

Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Performance
There’s more to a mattress than how it feels when you lie down. I put the Nolah Original Hybrid through various tests to assess its performance in categories like temperature regulation, edge support, durability, and more.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Thanks to its hybrid construction and materials like the Tencel cover and the AirFoam, the Nolah felt cool and comfortable. You can expect it to regulate temperature nicely throughout the night.
Motion Transfer
While the mattress has a good amount of bounce, which makes it easy to switch positions, the thick layers on the top of the Nolah Original Hybrid do a good job of isolation motion. During testing, I didn’t see too much motion transfer, so couples should snooze peacefully.
Edge Support
The coils in the Nolah Original Hybrid give it solid edge support. Most sleepers should feel supported sleeping all the way to the edge, which makes this a good option for folks who share the bed with a partner. I could also sit on the edge of the mattress without feeling like I was going to slide off.
Durability
With its high-density foam and coils, the Nolah Original Hybrid should last seven to 10 years, which is comparable to other high-quality hybrids on the market.
Off-gassing
I did experience some off-gassing when we opened the Nolah, but this is normal with a bed-in-a-box mattress. It was gone in a few days.
Noise
Despite its coil layer, the Nolah Original Hybrid didn’t make any noise when I reviewed it. However, there is a possibility that the coils may begin to squeak at some point during the mattress’s lifetime.
Sex
A responsive surface that’s easy to move around on is ideal for a mattress for sex, and the Nolah Original Hybrid fits the bill nicely.
Nolah Original Hybrid Company Policies
Before you buy a mattress, especially online, it’s important to be really clear on details like the warranty and trial window, the return policy, and what current customers have to say.
Warranty
All Nolah mattresses come with a lifetime limited warranty that protects against defects. For the first two years of the non-prorated warranty, Nolah will replace a defective mattress with a brand new one for no charge. In years 3 through 10, Nolah will repair and re-cover defective mattresses. Transportation costs of $99 apply each way.
In years 11 through 25, a 50% replacement charge, prorated from the original purchase price, will apply for a replacement mattress. In years 25 and beyond, the prorated charge is 60% of the original purchase price.
Sleep Trial
Nolah offers a 120-night sleep trial. If you choose to waive the trial, you can save $70 on the Nolah Original Hybrid.
Return Policy
During the sleep trial, Nolah will accept returns 30 days after the trial begins and up to 120 days from the date of purchase. Shoppers will be on the hook for $99 in return fees and can otherwise expect a full refund.
Common Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Complaints
While the Nolah Original Hybrid mattress has plenty of excellent reviews, some customers did find the mattress to be too firm. There’s a good chance that these sleepers fall into a lighter body weight category, which means they didn’t sink into the mattress deeply enough to feel the cushioning.
Other customers reported issues with the return process, which soured the entire experience.

The Nolah Original and the Nolah Original Hybrid share the same firmness, but the zoned support and the coils in the hybrid version give it some advantages. In a side-by-side comparison, the Nolah Original Hybrid is more supportive, sleeps cooler, has a bouncier feel and is going to prove more durable. That makes it the best choice for hot sleepers and those with higher body weight. On the other hand, you pay for those upgrades. If you’re working with a tight budget, the Nolah Original may be the best option.
