Nest Bedding Owl Mattress Overview
Nest Bedding sells a variety of mattresses, including the Sparrow memory foam hybrid and the all-latex Finch mattress. The Nest Owl mattress has a latex comfort layer and innerspring support layer, which makes the mattress feel responsive and cool.
The Owl mattress is available in three firmness levels: Plush, Medium, and Firm. In this review, I’ll focus on the Medium model.
Pros of the Nest Owl Mattress- H3
- It works well for combination sleepers. The Medium model offers ample comfort and support for people who rest on their backs, sides, and stomachs.
- It has a bouncy and responsive feel, which makes it easy to move around on it.
- It’s great for people who sleep hot at night. The coils allow plenty of room for airflow, and the Talalay latex comfort layer is naturally breathable.
Cons of the Nest Owl Mattress- H3
- It’s not supportive enough for stomach sleepers who weigh more than 300 lb. If you fall in this category, you may want to consider getting one of the best mattresses for heavy people.
- If you prefer a slow-moving memory foam feel, you may want to consider the Nectar mattress instead. The Nest Owl mattress feels quite bouncy.
- Because it’s made with high-quality materials, it’s sold at a higher price point. Take a look at our list of the best cheap mattresses for some more affordable options.

Nest Bedding Owl Mattress Firmness and Feel
The firmness and feel of a mattress are fairly subjective, but here’s my experience with the Nest Owl’s firmness and feel.
How Firm is the Nest Bedding Owl?
The Nest Bedding Owl mattress comes in three different firmness levels: Plush, Medium, and Firm. At Mattress Clarity, we rank mattresses on a scale from one to 10, with 6.5/10 being the industry standard for medium-firm. For this review, I’ll focus on the Medium model.
The Medium model comes in at that classic medium-firm feel, a 6.5/10 on our firmness scale. This is the industry standard for medium-firm mattresses. Lighter people might enjoy the plush model, while heavyweight sleepers might enjoy the firm model.
Choose Plush If: | Choose Medium If: | Choose Firm If: |
You’re a side sleeper who needs more pressure relief | You’re an average weight back or side sleeper | You’re a heavier person or an average weight stomach sleeper |
Sleeping On The Nest Bedding Owl
When I rested on my back, I felt very supported and comfortable. The tufted pillow top helped cushion my hips, and the sturdy coils helped me maintain the proper spinal alignment. I also felt great whenever I slept on my side. The Medium model offered plenty of pressure relief for my shoulders and hips.
As a petite person, I felt great while stomach sleeping. I wasn’t heavy enough to sink through the comfort layer, so I was able to maintain the proper spinal alignment in this position. That said, if you weigh more than 200 lb, you may feel your hips sinking out of alignment on the Medium model.
What Does the Nest Bedding Owl Feel Like?
The Nest Owl mattress feels responsive and bouncy. That’s thanks to its construction—the Talalay latex has a bouncy, responsive feel and the coils offer even more bounce. You won’t sink into this bed, which is good news for combination sleepers, who will be able to change positions with ease.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (Under 130 lb) | Excellent | Fair | Excellent |
Average (130 – 230 lb) | Excellent | Good | Good |
Heavyweight (Over 230 lb) | Good | Bad | Bad |
Is the Nest Owl Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?
- It’s a great match for lightweight back sleepers, thanks to the supportive Talalay Latex foam layer.
- Lightweight side sleepers may prefer the Plush model.
- The Medium and Firm models should work well for lightweight stomach sleepers, because the coil layer can help people maintain the proper spinal alignment.
Is the Nest Owl Mattress Good For Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?
- The latex comfort layer and coil support layer offers the comfort and support that average weight back sleepers need.
- Thanks to its three-inch layer of latex, average weight side sleepers should get the pressure relief they need.
- Some average weight stomach sleepers may get the hip support they need, but those who weigh more than 200 lb might prefer the Firm model.
Is the Nest Owl Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?
- Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh less than 300 lb should get the back support they need on the Nest Owl, though they may prefer the Firm model.
- Heavyweight side sleepers may feel some pressure along their shoulders and hips.
- It’s not a good match for heavyweight stomach sleepers. In this sleeping position, heavier people may develop lower back pain.

Nest Bedding Owl Mattress Construction
Let’s take a look at all the natural materials that go into making this an eco-friendly mattress. All of these materials have OEKO-Tex certifications, which means the materials are toxin-free, high-quality, and organic.
Mattress Height
The Owl Natural Latex Hybrid mattress is 12” tall.
Cover
On the outside of the Owl, you’ll find a cotton cover made with Joma wool and Eco-Flex Quilting Foam. There’s a bit of stretch to this cover, so you should be able to really feel the full comfort of this mattress. And because it’s made of cotton, this cover is fairly breathable, too.
Comfort Layers
The top layer consists of Talalay latex. This 3” layer feels rather soft, but it also has some bounce and responsiveness. This layer is also perforated with holes, which helps promote airflow and keep you cool.
Right underneath that, you’ll find a comfort foam layer. This acts as a transition layer and allows for even weight distribution as you rest.
Support Layer
At the bottom, you’ll find 6” of reinforced, pocketed coils. This offers the support back sleepers need, and it makes the mattress particularly durable.
At the very bottom, you’ll find an inch of support foam.

Nest Bedding Owl Mattress Performance
Now that we’ve discussed the firmness, feel, and construction of this mattress, let’s take a look at a few other important categories to consider when buying a new mattress.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Owl has a few things going for it that hot sleepers should pay attention to. As an innerspring mattress, it has plenty of room between the coils that air can flow through freely.
Organic latex foam is also not going to trap heat as much as traditional memory foam. The aerated comfort layer also makes the mattress more breathable.
Top it all off with a breathable cotton cover, and hot sleepers will find a mattress that should stay cool all night.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to how much you’ll feel someone getting in and out of bed or changing positions. This could be important for couples, especially if one person is a light sleeper.
The Nest Owl actually might be one of the best mattresses for couples. Despite being an innerspring mattress, which are known to not isolate motion well, the Owl has great motion isolation. The combination of the thick latex layer and the quilted cover help reduce motion transfer in this mattress.

Edge Support
You’ll find great edge support sitting or resting on the side of the Owl. The pocketed coils are designed with reinforced edge support. This mattress shouldn’t sag at all.
Durability
This organic mattress should be quite durable. The coils at the bottom are reinforced, and latex is a naturally long-lasting material. The Owl should last at least 10 years.
Off-Gassing
The Owl ships compressed inside of a box. After you open it, you may notice a chemical smell, but this is common as trapped gasses are released. This odor typically fades away after 24-48 hours.
Noise
I didn’t notice any noise while using the Owl right away. However, after some use, the springs might begin to squeak.
Sex
Thanks to its responsive latex foam and coils, the Owl should be a great option for anyone looking for one of the best mattresses for sex. You won’t feel trapped in this bed, and moving around or changing positions should be fairly easy.
Company Policies
Here’s what you can expect when you buy from Nest Bedding.
Warranty Info
The Owl comes with a lifetime warranty. In addition to this, Nest also offers a renewal exchange. This allows you to swap out the old comfort layer for a new one. You can use this at any time, so long as you are the original owner of the mattress.
Sleep Trial
Nest Bedding offers a 365-night sleep trial for their beds.
Return Policy
You can make returns at any time during the sleep trial for a full refund. However, it’s recommended that you try the mattress out for at least 30 days before initiating an exchange.

When you think of a latex mattress with springs, chances are the Avocado comes to mind. Let’s see how the Owl is different from this popular mattress.
To start, the Owl has three different firmness levels to choose from, making this a good pick for most sleeping positions. The California king Owl also comes in a split option, making it good for couples with different firmness preferences. The Avocado Green comes in at 6.5/10 on our firmness scale, meaning it has a classic medium-firm feel. Back sleepers of all body types will especially love the Avocado Green.
Both mattresses contain latex in their comfort layers. However, if you’re seeking out extra comfort, the Avocado will let you add a pillow top. While the Owl doesn’t have a pillow top add-on, you can get more pressure relief on the Plush model. Both mattresses should sleep fairly cool because of the breathable covers, airflow-promoting coils, and cooling latex foam. Additionally, the Avocado Green’s cover has some moisture-wicking properties to it.

Saatva is a popular online retailer, but they don’t compress their mattresses into cardboard boxes. They have a variety of models on their website, but for this comparison we’ll focus on the Saatva Classic.
Both the Owl and the Saatva Classic have multiple firmness levels to choose from. Here at Mattress Clarity, we love the luxury firm model, which comes in at 7/10 on our firmness scale, making it just a bit firmer than Owl’s Medium model.
Though both mattresses have cotton covers, the Saatva features a pillow top with memory foam. This makes it nice and soft at the top, and is one of our best pillow top mattresses. The memory foam underneath adds some good pressure relief, too.
Both mattresses feature coil systems for support, but Saatva’s support system has a dual set of coils. This combination of micro coils and sturdy support coils means the Saatva can handle heavier people. Both the Saatva and the Owl will be fairly responsive and bouncy. But the Owl isolates motion a bit better than the Saatva, making it a better option for some couples.

FAQs
Can I test Nest Bedding products in person?
Yes! Nest Bedding offers in-person showrooms across the US. If you find one near you, you can test the mattress out in-person. If not, don’t worry. If you buy a Nest mattress, you have a whole year to test it out from your home.
Can you flip the Owl Mattress?
Because the Owl features a comfort layer on top and strong supportive coils at the bottom, it is not flippable. The good news is, with Nest’s renewal exchange, if you feel your comfort layer forming indentations or just feel it beginning to deteriorate, you can exchange for a new comfort layer.
Does The Owl sleep hot?
No. Because it contains aerated latex foam, pocketed coils, and a breathable cotton cover, the Nest Owl mattress won’t trap heat.
