Nectar is one of the most popular online mattress brands and offers a wide range of hybrid and memory foam mattresses. The Nectar mattresses are known for their quality, affordability, and comfortable memory foam. Zinus is a value brand that has great success on Amazon. They too offer both all-foam and hybrid mattresses at a value price. We’ll be comparing two best-selling models from Nectar and Zinus, the Nectar Classic Hybrid and the Zinus Cooling Copper Hybrid. They are both memory foam hybrid mattresses with a lot to offer, but they do have their differences.

Firmness and Feel Differences

The Nectar and Zinus are different with regard to firmness, and this affects how they will feel in different sleeping positions. Let’s take a closer look.

How Firm Are The Nectar And Zinus Mattresses?

On a scale of 1-10, the Nectar Hybrid scores a 6.5/10, the industry standard for medium-firm. The top foam layers are soft and provide some good comfort while the coils offer some nice support. Combined, they give the Nectar Hybrid a perfect medium firmness. With its thick, soft memory foam layers on top, Zinus Hybrid is slightly softer than the Nectar Hybrid. It scores closer to a 6/10.

Sleeping On The Nectar and Zinus Mattresses

I started off testing the Nectar Hybrid and found it to be a great match for back sleeping. I felt my hips sink into the top foam layers while I felt those same foams conforming to the shape of my body. I also experienced good support from the coils. A man sleeps on his back on the Nectar Classic Hybrid. Side sleeping, I felt a bit of pressure on my shoulders and hips. I am a larger person and weigh 270 lb, and I pressed pretty far into the mattress. As I’ll discuss below, if you weigh less than me, you should have a different experience on the Nectar Hybrid. Stomach sleeping, the Nectar Hybrid did not offer me quite enough support. Stomach sleepers need more support under their hips, and the Nectar Hybrid just wasn’t up to the task. When I was back sleeping on the Zinus Hybrid, I thought it was a decent match for me. However, I felt better support on the Nectar Hybrid and preferred it for back sleeping. Side sleeping, the softer Zinus Hybrid provided better pressure relief for my shoulders and hips. The comfort layer is very thick on the Zinus, and I did not feel like I was bottoming out. A man sleeps on his side on the Zinus mattress Being a softer mattress, the Zinus Hybrid was not supportive enough for me while stomach sleeping. I could feel my hips sinking forward into the mattress. I could even feel some discomfort in my lower back.

What Do The Nectar And Zinus Feel Like

While the Nectar and Zinus mattresses are hybrids, they both exhibit more of a slow-moving memory foam feel. You’ll get a bit of bounce from the coils but, lying down, you’ll mostly feel that classic memory foam feel right on top. You’ll slowly sink in and feel the mattress take the shape of your body.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Back sleeping, average weight people should prefer the Nectar Hybrid mattress. This has more of a balance of comfort and support, and its medium firmness is exactly what back sleepers should be looking for. Average weight side sleepers should get nice relief on their pressure points from both mattresses. Still, those who just sleep on their side should opt for the softer Zinus Hybrid mattress. Neither mattress will be ideal for stomach sleeping, but those who weigh closer to 130 lb might get enough support on the Nectar Hybrid.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

If you weigh less than 275 lb, the Nectar Hybrid should be a good match for back sleeping. However, if you weigh more than this, you should consider one of our best mattresses for heavy people. Heavyweight side sleepers should also find a softer mattress made with heavier people in mind. If you are in this weight range and sleep on your side, you could bottom out and feel serious pressure on your shoulders and hips. Neither the Nectar nor Zinus will offer enough support for heavier stomach sleepers. You’ll want to find a firm mattress that is more supportive.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

Lightweight back sleepers should enjoy both the Nectar Hybrid and Zinus Hybrid, and side sleepers should feel the same. Stomach sleeping, lightweight people should consider the more supportive Nectar Hybrid.

Nectar Hybrid and Zinus Hybrid Performance Differences

I tested the Nectar Hybrid and Zinus Hybrid to see how they performed with regard to cooling, motion transfer, and edge support.

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

The Nectar Hybrid and Zinus Hybrid are both great cooling mattresses. They both feature cooling covers, cooling gel infusions, and airflow-promoting coils. You shouldn’t be sleeping hot on either mattress!

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer occurs when your partner rolls around on their side of the mattress, and this disturbs you on your side. You want a mattress that will cut down on this motion transfer, preferably something with memory foam. The Nectar Hybrid and Zinus Hybrid both have thick memory foam right on top and offer great motion isolation. This makes them both good mattresses for couples.

Edge Support

Edge support is also important for couples to consider as it lets both partners sleep toward the edges of the mattress. The Nectar Hybrid won out on edge support. I felt more secure sitting and lying down near the edge. A man sits near the edge of the Nectar Classic Hybrid

Durability

The Nectar Hybrid is a higher-end mattress and features more durable materials. Because of this, it should last longer than the Zinus Hybrid. Specifically, the Nectar Hybrid should last for 10 years, and the Zinus Hybrid should only last for 7.

Off-gassing

If you’ve ever unboxed a new mattress-in-a-box and noticed a chemical smell, you know what off-gassing is. This happens with most bed-in-a-box mattresses, and it happened when I unboxed both the Nectar Hybrid and Zinus Hybrid. However, I left both mattresses in a well-ventilated room, and the smell was gone within 48 hours.

Noise

The Nectar Hybrid and Zinus Hybrid were both quiet mattresses. When I moved around on both mattresses, I didn’t hear any sounds. However, just note that hybrid mattresses do start to squeak after you’ve used them for a few years.

Sex

These are both slow-moving mattresses, and they don’t make it very easy to move around and change positions. This doesn’t make them a great match for sex. If you want a good mattress for sex, find something bouncy and responsive.

Company Policies

Now, let’s check out the fine print for these two mattresses.

Warranty Info

The Nectar Hybrid comes with a lifetime warranty, and the Zinus Hybrid comes with a 10-year warranty.

Sleep Trial

You get a 365-night sleep trial with the Nectar Hybrid and a 100-night trial period with the Zinus Hybrid.

Return Policy

Both brands offer free shipping and returns.
