Nectar vs Nectar Luxe Mattress Overview
Nectar is easily one of the most popular bed-in-a-box brands. The original Nectar was one of the first online memory foam mattresses, and it continues to be a hit with sleepers. Nectar has since added more models to its line, including the Nectar Premier, Nectar Luxe, and hybrid versions of all three mattresses.
The Nectar Classic is the brand’s most basic, affordable mattress, while the Nectar Luxe is one of their higher-end models. They both have a lot to offer, but they will work better for certain sleepers.

Firmness and Feel Differences
The Nectar and Nectar Luxe are different when it comes to their firmness and feel. Let’s take a look at the specifics.
How Firm Are The Nectar And Nectar Premier Mattresses?
On a firmness scale of 1-10, the Nectar mattress scores a 6.5/10, the industry standard for medium-firm. It features a soft memory foam layer on top, but the transition foam and support foam are firmer.
The Nectar Luxe features a thicker comfort layer, so it is a bit softer than the Nectar. It feels softer than average, closer to a 6/10.
Sleeping On The Nectar And Nectar Luxe Mattresses
I started off sleeping on the Nectar Classic mattress. Back sleeping, the mattress was a great match for me. Medium-firm mattresses usually offer the right amount of comfort and support for back sleeping, and the Nectar is no exception.
Side sleeping, I felt some build-up around my pressure points. I pushed pretty far into the mattress and started to feel the firmness of the transition layer. However, I will note that I weigh 270 lb, and lighter people might have a different experience.
Stomach sleeping, the Nectar was too soft to offer me the right support. Stomach sleepers require extra support under their hips, and I was not feeling this with the Nectar.
Back sleeping on the Nectar Luxe, I also experienced a good balance of comfort and support. That being said, I did prefer the slightly firmer Nectar mattress for back sleeping.
When I slept on my side, I felt much more comfortable on the Nectar Luxe. Its thicker comfort layer offered me better pressure relief for both my shoulders and hips.
The Nectar Luxe was too soft for stomach sleeping, however. I could feel my hips sinking down into the mattress, and this could lead to lower back pain issues down the line.
What Do The Nectar And Nectar Luxe Feel Like?
The Nectar and Nectar Luxe are both all-foam mattresses that let you sink in a fair bit. However, the Nectar has more of that slow-moving memory foam feel, and the Nectar Luxe is more balanced. I found it easier to move around on the Nectar Luxe.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
Average weight back sleepers should like sleeping on both the Nectar and Nectar Luxe. They’ll feel their hips sinking into the top layers while the transition and support layers hold up their bodies. That being said, strict back sleepers will prefer the Nectar, as it offers a tad more support.
Side sleepers in this weight range will experience decent pressure relief on the Nectar mattress. They won’t press too far into the mattress and should mostly feel the soft memory foam on top. If you just sleep on your side, you will prefer the softer Nectar Luxe. Its thicker comfort layer will offer better pressure relief.
Unfortunately, neither mattress will work for stomach sleepers in this weight range. They will want a firmer mattress that provides better support under the hips. However, if you weigh closer to 130 lb, you may get enough support from the Nectar Classic.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
Heavyweight sleepers who weigh less than 300 lb should prefer the firmer Nectar Classic mattress. If you weigh more than that, you should check out our best mattresses for heavy people page.
If you are a larger side sleeper, you should get better pressure relief from the thicker, softer Nectar Luxe. If you weigh over 300 lb, you may still press too far into the mattress and feel some serious discomfort around your shoulders and hips.
Stomach sleepers in this weight range will need to find a more supportive mattress. Heavier stomach sleepers require even more support under their hips, and these mattresses will feel too soft.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
Both mattresses should work well for lightweight side and back sleepers. Some stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 lb could also get enough support on the Nectar mattress, but the Nectar Luxe will be too soft.

Nectar And Nectar Luxe Performance Differences
I ran the Nectar and Nectar Luxe through a gauntlet of tests. Let’s look at how they each scored.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
While the Nectar features a breathable cover and a gel infusion, the Nectar Luxe is the cooler-sleeping mattress. The copper cover is cool to the touch, and the phase change material takes its cooling to the next level. If you struggle with sleeping hot, the Nectar Luxe will be the better choice.
Motion Transfer
If you sleep with a partner, you want a mattress that cuts down on motion transfer. This occurs when your partner moves around on their side of the mattress, and you feel it on your side.
The Nectar and Nectar Luxe both feature thick memory foam in their top layers, and this material provides great motion isolation. You should see very little motion transfer on either of these mattresses.
Edge Support
Edge support is also important for couples in that it allows you and your partner to sleep all the way toward the edges of the mattress without rolling off.
While the Nectar boasts some solid edge support, the Nectar Luxe still wins out. It is a thicker mattress, so it collapsed less when I sat and laid down near the edge.
Durability
These are both durable mattresses that should last for at least 7 years. However, the Nectar Luxe is thicker and has more of a luxury design. Because of this, it should last even longer.
Off-gassing
When you unbox a new mattress, you may notice a slight chemical smell. This is called off-gassing, and it is normal with online mattresses.
When I unboxed the Nectar and Nectar Luxe, I did notice that chemical smell but, after a few days, it had completely dissipated.
Noise
I heard no noise when I moved around on these two mattresses. This is not surprising, given that they are all-foam and don’t feature coils.
Sex
If you want a great mattress for sex, you should find a bouncy mattress. This will make it easier for you and your partner to move around and change positions. Unfortunately, the Nectar and Nectar Luxe’s thick memory foam may make you feel stuck.
