I Recommend The Helix Twilight For…
- Back sleepers who enjoy plenty of support. The Helix Twilight has a super supportive feel that should keep the spine properly aligned.
- Stomach sleepers. These sleepers need a firm surface, and the Helix Twilight certainly delivers on that front. There shouldn’t be any uncomfortable sinking in the hips.
- Folks who enjoy a slow-moving feel on top of their mattress. Despite all the firmness and support, the Helix Twilight’s cushy top should absorb plenty of motion.
I Don’t Recommend The Helix Twilight For…
- People who prefer a softer mattress. This bed is firm with a capital ‘F.’ Steer clear if you’re looking for soft, medium, or even medium-firm.
- Side sleepers. Though the Helix Twilight was (ironically) designed for side sleepers, we don’t think most of these sleepers will obtain adequate pressure relief on its surface. How Firm is the Helix Twilight Mattress?
I ranked the Helix Twilight around 7.5/10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the Helix Twilight is decidedly firmer than average. Note that firmness is a bit subjective; depending on your body weight and preferences, you might rank this mattress a touch firmer or softer. But it’s fair to say that virtually everyone will find this to be a relatively firm mattress.

Helix Twilight Performance in Our Tests
Support – 4/5
The firmer nature of this mattress translates to a strong support core, which should benefit a variety of sleepers. For one, it helps keep sleepers’ hips elevated and aligned with their spines when they lay on their back. The Helix Twilight should also be well-matched to most stomach sleepers, who should experience plenty of lift.
Even though the Twilight is meant to work for side sleepers, I found it wasn’t ideal for pressure relief. I felt jammed up around the shoulder and hip, and it’s unlikely that sleepers will feel comfortable in this position.
Edge Support – 4/5
Thanks mainly to its support layer of coils, the Helix Twilight boasts solid edge support. I felt secure while lying down near the edge of this mattress.
When it comes to sitting on the edge of the mattress, I used a tape measure to record how far the bed sagged under my weight. The result was 3” of sagging — which isn’t bad at all. I chalk it up to the reinforced coils along the longer edges of the mattress.
Cooling – 4/5
The Helix Twilight boasts several design features that mean this mattress shouldn’t trap much heat. The breathable cover allows air to pass through the top of the mattress, while the individually-wrapped coils create plenty of room for air to circulate within the mattress.
I used a heat gun to measure the change in temperature after lying down on the mattress for five minutes. Initially, I recorded a temperature of 73.3 F; then, after five minutes, the gun read 78.7F. This 5.4-degree increase is on the lower end, meaning the Twilight is a bed that can keep its cool.
If you’re still worried about sleeping hot, you can upgrade to the Twilight Luxe model, which offers even more cooling features.
Motion Transfer – 4/5
Even though this is a firm, bouncy mattress, the Helix Twilight does a surprisingly good job of minimizing motion transfer across the mattress. That’s thanks to the memory foam layer on top of the mattress, which absorbs movement.
I used a water glass to physically observe how motion travels on the mattress surface, watching how it moves as we press down on the other side of the mattress. During this test, I didn’t notice any egregious movement, so it’s safe to say that this will be a solid bed for restless co-sleepers.
Response – 4/5
As I’ve said, the Helix Twilight is a firm hybrid mattress with a slow-moving feel on top. Still, this slow-moving feel is balanced out by the bounciness of the coils in the support layer.
During testing, I found this bed to be fairly responsive. Sleepers shouldn’t feel stuck in this mattress, making it a good choice for combination sleepers or sexually active folks.
Durability – 4/5
Because the Helix Twilight features high-density foams and long-lasting coils, this should be a very durable mattress. Mattresses usually have a lifespan of seven to 10 years, and I’d say this is true for the Helix Twilight.

The Helix Twilight comes with a 10-year limited warranty. This covers all manufacturing defects and is void if you utilize the incorrect frame of foundation or otherwise mistreat the mattress.
If at any point in 10 years after you purchase your mattress, you experience defects, Helix will send out a team to repair or replace your mattress. You may initially be charged a shipping or removal fee that Helix will refund once the warranty is determined to be valid.
Helix Twilight: Other Factors to Consider
There’s a lot that goes into a mattress, so let’s cover some factors you might not initially think about before purchasing.
Off-Gassing
“Off-gassing” refers to a chemical scent that comes off mattresses that are compressed in a box. Usually, this is because of foams in its construction. We did observe some initial off-gassing from the Helix Twilight. However, this should dissipate within a few days.
Noise
Some mattresses make noises when you move around on them. During testing, I observed just a touch of creaking from the Helix Twilight’s coils. It’s possible this noise could get louder as time goes on, but as of this review, I don’t find it egregious.
Sex
The best mattresses for sex make it easy for partners to move and change positions on top of the bed. The Helix Twilight should be a great fit thanks to its firm, bouncy feel. Partners shouldn’t feel “stuck” in this mattress.
Mattress Height
The Helix Twilight is 12” tall. This is about the standard height for most mattresses. If you’re looking for something loftier with a similar feel, the Helix Twilight Luxe is about 13.5” tall.
Sleeping Position and Weight
We’ve touched on who this mattress is and isn’t for, but let’s go into detail about what body types and preferred sleeping positions should (and shouldn’t) try out the Helix Twilight.
Overall, the firm feel of this bed will deter a few types of sleepers. Side sleepers, regardless of body type, may struggle to feel a comfortable sink — lightweight sleepers especially. Average-weight and heavyweight back sleepers should enjoy the support this bed offers — some lightweight back sleepers, too, but again, be aware of its firmer feel. Stomach sleepers of all sizes should also benefit from the bed’s firmness.

Cover
The Helix Twilight features your choice of covers. You can choose the included Breathe Knit cover, which is soft and (as the name implies) breathable, or upgrade to a GlacioTex Cooling Pillow Top for an extra fee.
Comfort Layers
The primary comfort layer on the Helix Twilight is made from slow-moving Copper Gel Memory Foam. This material offers nice pressure relief while its copper gel infusions keep it from trapping too much body heat.
Below this, you’ll find a layer of Helix Responsive Foam with a firm feel. Right underneath this layer, there’s another firm layer of Helix Responsive Foam which keeps you from sinking too far into the bed. These layers together all create the bed’s firm feel.
Support Layers
In classic hybrid mattress fashion, the Helix Twilight’s support layer features individually-wrapped coils. These coils respond to your movement while also contributing to its absorption at the surface. They’re also reinforced along the lengthwise edges of the mattress.
Underneath, there’s a base layer of high-density DuraDense Foam that provides structure and support for the mattress overall.
