DreamCloud Premier vs Helix Midnight Luxe Mattress Overview

DreamCloud and Helix are two of the most popular bed-in-a-box mattress brands. DreamCloud is known for its line of three luxury hybrid mattresses. Helix is also known for hybrids, but the selection is much wider. The brand offers mattresses that range from very soft to very firm.

The Helix Midnight Luxe is one of the brand’s most popular medium-firm models that features a great balance of comfort and support. The DreamCloud Premier is a comparable luxury medium-firm model with a lot to offer. However, they do have their differences and will work better for certain types of sleepers.

Who Should Choose the DreamCloud Premier? Who Should Choose the Helix Midnight Luxe?
Those who want to save money People who want a mattress for back pain
People who don’t need as much lumbar support Hot sleepers
Shoppers who want a longer warranty and sleep trial Those who want a longer-lasting mattress

Similarities And Differences Between The DreamCloud Premier And Helix Midnight Luxe

Let’s start off by looking at the major similarities and differences between these two mattresses:

Similarities Differences
They are both hybrid mattresses. The Helix Midnight Luxe costs more than the DreamCloud Premier.
The DreamCloud and Helix both feature cushioning pillow tops. The Helix Midnight Luxe is a more cooling mattress.
They have the exact same firmness. The DreamCloud Premier does not feature zoning, while the Helix Midnight Luxe does.
They are both responsive mattresses.

Firmness And Feel Differences

Let’s take a look at how firm these mattresses are and how they work for different sleeping positions.

How Firm Are The DreamCloud Premier And Helix Midnight Luxe

On a scale of 1-10, the DreamCloud Premier and Helix Midnight Luxe both felt like a 6.5, the industry standard for medium-firm. Both mattresses boast plush pillow tops but, beneath that their coils provide firm support. Combined, these materials give both mattresses a medium firmness.

Sleeping On The DreamCloud Premier And Helix Midnight Luxe

Starting off on the DreamCloud Premier, the mattress was a great match for back sleeping. I felt my hips sink into the plush pillow top while the coils held up my body. This is no surprise as medium-firm hybrid mattresses are usually ideal for back sleeping.

A man sleeps on his back on the DreamCloud Premier

Side sleeping, I felt just a bit of pressure on my shoulders and hips. However, I weigh 270 lb, and I sank in quite a bit. Lighter people might have a different experience than me.

Stomach sleeping, the DreamCloud Premier was too soft for my tastes. I felt my hips sinking down forward into the mattress. Stomach sleepers should find a firmer mattress that will support their hips and keep their spine neutrally aligned.

When I was back sleeping on the Helix Midnight Luxe, I felt even more comfortable. The mattress is zoned and is designed to feel firmer toward the center. Because of this, I could feel extra support under my lumbar area. This helped keep my spine in neutral alignment.

Side sleeping on the Helix, I did feel some bunching up around my shoulders and hips. Strict side sleepers should consider one of Helix’s softer models, such as the Helix Sunset Luxe.

The Helix Midnight Luxe was also too soft for stomach sleeping. I would take a look at the Helix Dawn Luxe, one of the brand’s firmer models.

What Do The DreamCloud Premier And Helix Midnight Luxe Feel Like?

The DreamCloud Premier is a responsive hybrid mattress that makes it easy to move around and change positions. At the same time, it has a plush pillow top feel on top that lets you sink in a fair bit.

The Helix Midnight Luxe is also a bouncy mattress with a pillow top feel on top. You’ll also sink into this mattress but should have no trouble moving around.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Average weight back sleepers will like sleeping on both the DreamCloud and Helix. These medium-firm mattresses offer that exact balance of comfort and support back sleepers should be looking for. However, the Helix Midnight Luxe’s zoning will provide even more lumbar support.

Average weight sleepers should experience nice pressure relief on both mattresses. They won’t be heavy enough to sink too far and will mostly feel the soft, plush pillow-top relieving the buildup around their pressure points.

Stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb should get enough support from both mattresses. However, if you weigh much more than this, the DreamCloud and Helix mattresses will feel too soft for you.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

Heavyweight back sleepers will prefer the Helix Midnight Luxe because of its zoning. This will help give them the extra lumbar support they require. However, if you weigh over 300 lbs, you should check out the Helix Plus, the brand’s mattress made just for heavy people.

Both mattresses should feel too firm for heavier side sleepers. They will press far into the mattress and feel some pressure on their shoulders and hips. Side sleepers in this weight range should check out our best mattresses for heavy people.

Stomach sleepers in this weight range will also need a firmer mattress. Neither the DreamCloud Premier nor Helix Midnight luxe will offer enough overall support for stomach sleeping.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

Both mattresses should be a good match for combination sleepers of this body type. Back, side, and stomach sleeping will feel comfortable on the DreamCloud Premier and Helix Midnight Luxe.

DreamCloud Premier And Helix Midnight Luxe Performance Differences

I ran these mattresses through a number of tests. Let’s see how they both performed!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

Both the DreamCloud and Helix are breathable mattresses and promote plenty of airflow, but the Helix wins out on cooling. It features more advanced cooling materials such as a GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover that draws heat away from your body. It also boasts copper in its top foam layer, another material known for its heat-dissipation properties. You should be sleeping cooler on the Helix Midnight Luxe!

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is something that all couples want to think about. If your partner moves around on their side of the mattress, and you feel it on your side, you’re feeling what’s known as motion transfer.

Thankfully, some mattresses are designed to isolate motion and prevent you and your partner from disturbing one another. The DreamCloud Premier and Helix Midnight Luxe are two such mattresses. Their thick layers of foam are great with motion isolation, making both good mattresses for couples.

Edge Support

Edge support is also important for couples. A mattress with good edge support will allow both partners to sleep all the way toward the edges of the mattress.

Between the two mattresses, the Helix Midnight Luxe features better edge support. I felt more secure when I was sitting and lying down near the edge.

Durability

These are both very durable mattresses and feature materials that should last for many years. That being said, the Helix Midnight Luxe is just a bit more deluxe and features some higher-density foams. It should last longer than the DreamCloud Premier.

Off-gassing

Off-gassing occurs when you unbox a new mattress and notice a chemical smell. This is very normal with bed-in-a-box mattresses. I smelled this when unboxing both mattresses but, after a few days in a well-ventilated room, there were no lingering smells.

Noise

When I rolled around on both mattresses, I heard no noise. Both the DreamCloud Premier and Helix Midnight Luxe are quiet mattresses.

However, keep in mind that hybrid mattresses might start to squeak and make noise after you’ve had them for a number of years.

Sex

The DreamCloud Premier and Helix Midnight are both responsive mattresses. This makes them great for sex as they make it easier for partners to move around and change positions.
