Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Mattress Firmness And Feel

To get to know the Casper Nova Hybrid Snow better, let’s start by looking at its firmness and feel. These factors will impact whether the bed is well-suited to your sleep position(s) and other preferences.

How Firm Is The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow?

We ranked the Nova Hybrid Snow around a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so the Nova Hybrid Snow is a bit softer-than-average. Its top is very soft and plush (kind of like a memory foam mattress), which helps account for the bed’s softer feel. Note that the Zoned Support means the mattress will feel a bit firmer while back and stomach sleeping and a bit softer while side sleeping.

Of course, firmness is a bit subjective. You might rank this mattress a touch firmer or softer depending on your body weight and preferences.

Sleeping On The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow (Sleeping Positions)

We felt great while back sleeping on the Nova Hybrid Snow. We sank in a fair amount for some pressure relief and body contouring (much like you would on a memory foam mattress), but we didn’t sink in so far that our spinal alignment was compromised. On the contrary, we felt great support thanks to the zoned layers.

We also felt great while side sleeping on this mattress. The plush top relieved pressure around the shoulder and hip. Light- and medium-weight folks will experience the most pressure relief in this position.

Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Mattress Review

The zoned construction on the Nova Hybrid Snow did help support our hips, but folks who spend all night on their stomach will probably prefer a firmer mattress that ensures adequate spinal support throughout the night.

What Does The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Feel Like?

Even though it has a plush top that feels a lot like memory foam, the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress actually has a very bouncy and responsive foam feel. It’s very easy to move around and change positions on this mattress.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs

Average-weight back sleepers should find a pleasant balance of pressure relief and spinal support on the Nova Hybrid Snow. Average-weight side sleepers should enjoy nice pressure relief on this mattress. The Nova Hybrid Snow is probably too soft to provide night-long support to average-weight stomach sleepers.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

Back sleepers who weigh less than 300 pounds should enjoy a blend of comfort and support on this mattress, while folks who weigh more than that will probably need a mattress for heavy people. Similarly, side sleepers who weigh less than 300 pounds should enjoy adequate pressure relief, while people who weigh more than that might require a plusher bed. The Nova Hybrid Snow is decidedly too soft for heavyweight stomach sleepers, who will need a more supportive mattress.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

The Nova Hybrid Snow should be well-suited to lightweight sleepers of all stripes. Lightweight back sleepers will receive comfort and support, lightweight side sleepers should enjoy plenty of pressure relief, and lightweight stomach sleepers should feel adequately supported on this bed.

Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Mattress Construction

Next, let’s take a look at what’s inside the Casper Nova Hybrid Snow! We’ll reveal each layer of this bed’s construction and share how different materials affect feel and performance.

Cover

The Nova Hybrid Snow’s cover is all about sleeping cool. The QuickCool™ Cover is infused with Phase Change Material to create a cool-to-the-touch sensation.

Comfort Layers

The first comfort layer on the Nova Hybrid Snow is made with a material called AirScape foam, which is perforated to allow for extra airflow and features cooling gel on top. This material is simultaneously plush and responsive.

Casper Nova Hybrid Snow - Construction and Foam Layers

Below the top layer, there’s another layer of AirScape foam that is zoned to modulate the firmness of the mattress. The center is firmer, which offers more lower back and hip support for back and stomach sleeping, while the head and foot are softer to allow for more pressure relief (particularly around the shoulder). This layer is also perforated, and it’s topped with 6 HeatDelete™ Bands that are designed to dissipate heat away from the body and support cooler sleep.

Finally, there’s a polyfoam transition layer made with Zoned Support Pro, a complex, 7-zoned zoning system that enhances the zoning in the layer above. This layer also has air channels to support airflow.

Support Layers

The primary support layer on the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress features pocketed coils that lend the mattress its bounce and responsiveness. These coils are surrounded by a foam encasement that strengthens the bed’s edge support. They rest on a base layer of high-density foam, which gives the mattress its overall structure.

Mattress Height

The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow is 12” tall.

Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Mattress Performance

We ran the Nova Hybrid Snow through a barrage of tests with regard to temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support, and more. Let’s see how it performed!

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

The Nova Hybrid Snow is expressly designed to sleep cool, and it lives up to the challenge. (It’s part of the brand’s Cooling Collection, after all!) This bed includes many cooling and humidity-fighting features, such as a Phase Change Material cover, cooling gels, ventilated foams, and the coils, which allow for plenty of airflow throughout the center of the mattress.

To see more like the Nova Hybrid Snow, definitely check out our best cooling mattresses page.

Motion Transfer

In our experience, minimizing motion transfer isn’t the Nova Hybrid Snow’s strong suit. Because it’s bouncy and responsive, sleep partners might feel each other’s movements travel across the surface of the mattress.

Edge Support

While the Nova Hybrid Snow does have a foam encasement for stronger edge support, it didn’t actually perform very well during our edge support tests. We found that the edges collapsed a bit while we sat and laid down near them, so we didn’t feel very secure. This reduces the amount of surface area available to sleepers, so keep this in mind if you’re looking for a mattress for couples.

Casper Nova Hybrid Snow - Edge Support

Durability

This is a very durable mattress made with long-lasting materials. Expect this to be a good long-term investment.

Off-Gassing

We did observe some initial off-gassing from the Casper Nova Hybrid mattress. This should dissipate within a few days.

Noise

At the time of our review, we didn’t observe any notable noise on the Nova Hybrid Snow. Because it contains coils, it’s possible they could start to squeak a bit over time.

Sex

The Nova Hybrid Snow is bouncy and responsive, which makes it a great fit for sexual partners. It’s easy to move around and change positions, and sexual partners shouldn’t feel stuck in this bed.

How Does The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Compare To Other Mattresses?

Since the Nova Hybrid Snow is a new mattress, you might be wondering how it stacks up against other, more established beds. Well, let us do the work for you! We’ve pitted the Nova Hybrid Snow against two popular online mattresses: the Casper Original and the Layla Hybrid.

Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Vs Casper Original

The Casper Original is an all-foam mattress that layers AirScape foam and a zoned support layer over a high-density foam base layer. (The Original also comes in a hybrid version.) The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow uses some of the same materials, but its construction is much more complex. It layers AirScape foam over zoned AirScape foam, a 7-zoned Zoned Support Pro layer, and pocketed coils.

Casper Mattress - Construction And Foam Layers

Even though the Nova Hybrid Snow is more supportive than the Casper Original, it’s also softer. We ranked the Nova Hybrid Snow around 6/10 (softer-than-average), and we ranked the Casper mattress around 7/10 (a bit firmer-than-average).

These beds also differ when it comes to price. Because the Nova Hybrid is more of a luxury mattress that incorporates many cooling features, it costs more than the original Casper mattress. The Nova Hybrid Snow starts at $ for a Queen, while the all-foam Casper Original starts at $1295.00 for the same size.

Who Should Get The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow?

  • Hot sleepers
  • Side sleepers
  • Folks who like a plusher mattress

Who Should Get The Casper?

  • People who are looking to save money
  • Folks who don’t sleep too hot (and aren’t searching for a cooling mattress)
  • Stomach sleepers

Learn more about the Original Casper in our Casper mattress review.

Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Vs Layla Hybrid

The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow features a complex hybrid construction that includes AirScape foam on top and two zoned layers over coils. The Layla Hybrid is also a hybrid mattress; it layers copper-infused memory foam and Max Airflow Support Foam over coils. While both mattresses have cooling features, the Nova Hybrid Snow’s cooling system is more advanced. Another construction difference? The Layla Hybrid is flippable, while the Nova Hybrid Snow is not.

Layla Hybrid Construction And Layers

In addition to having different constructions, these beds also differ a bit when it comes to firmness. We ranked the Casper Nova Hybrid Snow around 6/10 (a bit softer-than-average). Meanwhile, because the Layla Hybrid is flippable, it offers two firmness choices in one mattress. We ranked the softer side of the Layla Hybrid around 6/10 (a touch softer-than-average and the same as the Nova Hybrid Snow), while we ranked the firmer side around 7.5/10 (notably firmer-than-average).

Finally, these beds differ when it comes to price. The Layla Hybrid costs less than the Casper Nova Hybrid Snow, so keep this in mind if you’re hunting for a good bargain. The Nova Hybrid Snow starts at $ for a Queen-size mattress; the same size Layla Hybrid costs $1699.00 at full price.

Who Should Get The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow?

  • Hot sleepers who need a mattress that sleeps extra-cool
  • Folks who want a more responsive mattress

Who Should Get The Layla Hybrid?

  • People who want to save money
  • Folks who enjoy a classic memory foam feel
