Casper Element Mattress Overview

Casper has had great success with its Original mattress because of its proprietary Zoned Support system. This is intended to give more support when people are back sleeping and stomach sleeping and more pressure relief when they are side sleeping.

The Casper Element does not feature this Zoned Support system, and it is a much more affordable, streamlined mattress than the Original Casper. At the same time, it should be a comfortable, budget-friendly mattress pick for many types of sleepers.

Casper Element Mattress Firmness And Feel

Firmness and feel are elements that will dictate who a mattress will be the best match for. Read on to find out how firm the Casper Element mattress is and how it will work for sleepers of different body types and sizes.

How Firm Is The Casper Element?

In our experience, the Casper Element felt like an 8/10, firmer-than-average, but this will depend on a person’s size and weight. A lighter person might not press into the top AirScape foam layer too much, so the Element could feel softer to them; larger people who weigh over 250 lbs might feel like the mattress is even firmer as they press right into the foam support layer.

Sleeping On The Casper Element

Starting off back sleeping, the Casper Element mattress is properly supportive, and we feel our hips sink into the AirScape foam while it also conforms to the curves of the body. The AirScape foam also presses up into the lumbar area and provides some excellent support there.

Casper Element Mattress - Side Sleeping

Side sleeping, the Casper Element does provide some decent pressure relief for the shoulders and hips as we sink into the AirScape foam. However, as we discuss below, this will depend on the size and weight of the sleeper.

Finally, when we lie on our stomachs, the Casper Element mattress is surprisingly supportive. The comfort layer is not too thick, so we mostly feel the support of the base layer beneath.

What Does The Casper Element Feel Like?

The Casper Element boasts a responsive, balanced foam feel. Lying on the Casper Element, one will sink in just a bit, but the bouncier AirScape foam makes it very easy to move around and reposition on the mattress.

Casper Element Mattress - Firmness And Feel

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Most average weight sleepers are going to find the Casper Element to be a good match for back sleeping because the AirScape foam should contour to the shape of the body, while the support foam holds up the body. Side sleeping, average weight people who are closer to 130 lbs should feel the best pressure relief on the Casper Element, but those who are at the heavier end of this spectrum will feel more pressure. Stomach sleeping, the majority of average weight sleepers should get the support they need on the Casper Element mattress.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

Heavyweight back sleepers who are just over 230 lbs should feel the proper balance of comfort and support. Heavier side sleepers will most likely press through the AirScape foam and feel significant pressure on the shoulders and hips. Stomach sleeping, larger people will probably need to find a firmer mattress with coils.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

Lightweight sleepers should feel comfortable and supported in all three sleeping positions, making this a great mattress for combination sleepers. They will get enough support for back and stomach sleeping and enough pressure relief for side sleeping. For lightweight people, it could be one of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Casper Element Mattress Construction

Let’s take a closer look at the design and construction of the Casper Element. We will look at each layer one by one and discuss how it affects the performance of the mattress.

Cover

The Casper Element’s cover is soft and thin and should not affect the overall feel of the mattress.

Comfort Layer

The top layer of the Casper Element contains something called AirScape, a proprietary, responsive foam that is quite soft but has a good bit of bounce as well. It is also designed to be more breathable than memory foam and features perforations to increase airflow through the top of the mattress.

Casper Element Mattress Construction And Layers

Support Layer

A thick base polyfoam makes up the support layer of the Casper Element – it is firm, very supportive, and durable as well.

Mattress Height

The Casper Element is 10″ tall which is a standard height for an all-foam mattress.

Casper Element Mattress Performance

Now we will break down the Casper Element mattress in regard to cooling, durability, and other aspects.

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

Being an all-foam mattress, the Casper Element is going to trap some heat because, unlike an innerspring or hybrid mattress, the Casper Element does not leave a lot of room for airflow. However, the Casper Element should sleep cool for an all-foam mattress because the cover is quite breathable, and the AirScape foam is open-celled and ventilated.

Motion Transfer

While the Element does not feature pure memory foam, it does handle motion transfer remarkably well. The AirScape absorbs a good bit of motion so that we can lie down on one side of the mattress without being disturbed by a partner on the other side. Those who need a mattress for couples should keep these motion transfer results in mind.

Edge Support

Sitting near the edge of the Casper Element, we don’t feel like we are going to fall forward or slide off the mattress. However, the mattress is on the thinner side, and this may be an issue for taller people as they sit down near the edge. Lying down near the edge of the Casper Element, we do not feel like we are going to roll off of the mattress; this is surprising given that this is a thinner all-foam mattress.

Durability

Though it is a simpler mattress, the Casper Element contains high-quality foams that shouldn’t sag too quickly. The Casper Element mattress should last for between seven and 10 years and, if it sags before then, it comes with a 10-year warranty.

Casper Element Mattress Review

Make sure to take a look at our top picks for the best mattress that won’t sag.

Off-gassing

After we unboxed the Casper Element, we did notice a slight chemical smell emanating from the mattress. This is a standard occurrence with a bed in a box mattress, and the smell did dissipate after 48 hours.

Noise

Because the Casper Element is an all-foam mattress, we did not hear any real noise when we moved around on top of it. We could change positions quite easily without the mattress making a sound.

Sex

Those who need a mattress for sex usually want to find something that is responsive and allows sexual partners to move around with great ease. This is definitely the case with the Casper Element, and it should make it easy to find rhythm and purchase during intimate moments.

Casper Company Policies

It’s important to understand the fine print policies before deciding to purchase a Casper Element mattress.

Warranty

The Casper Element mattress comes with a 10-year limited warranty. You can learn more about the warranty on Casper’s website.

Sleep Trial

The Casper Element comes with a 100-night sleep trial. During this time, you can try the mattress in the comfort of your own home.

Return Policy

If you decide you don’t like the Casper Element mattress, you can return it for a full refund during your 100-night sleep trial. As long as the items are in donatable condition, you can return it without the original packaging or box, even if they have been assembled.

Common Casper Element Complaints

The Casper Element may not be the best mattress for people with back pain. Most of the one to two star customer reviews complain of actually feeling worse after sleeping on the Casper Element mattress. The Casper Element mattress is better suited for lightweight and average weight sleepers. Therefore, if you are a heavier sleeper, you may want to check out our list of the best mattresses for heavy people.

How Does The Casper Element Compare To Other Mattresses?

It is always a good idea to comparison shop when deciding on a new mattress. Keep reading as we compare the Casper Element to similar mattresses.

Casper Element Vs. Original Casper

First off, the Casper Element is a more simple, streamlined mattress than the Original Casper. The Element only features two layers, and the Original Casper features three layers. One of these layers contains Zoned Support, which makes the center of the mattress feel firmer than the head and foot.

Casper Mattress - Construction And Layers

There are some noticeable firmness differences between the Element and Original Casper mattresses – the Element feels close to an 8/10 in terms of firmness, and the Casper feels like a 7/10. However, because of the Zoned Support system, the Casper will feel firmer or softer depending on what position someone is sleeping in.

The Element is a much simpler mattress, so it is also a cheap mattress option. At full price, the Element costs about $500 less than the Original Casper.

Keeping all these differences in mind, the Casper Element and Original Casper are a better fit for different types of people. For instance, the Casper Element should work better for lightweight sleepers and those who want to save money on their mattress purchase. The Casper, on the other hand, is the best mattress for back sleepers, side sleepers, and larger people.

Casper Element Vs. Brooklyn Bedding Bowery

The Casper Element and Brooklyn Bedding Bowery are both streamlined mattresses with a simple construction, but they do still have their differences. For instance, the Casper Element only has two layers, and the Bowery has three. Also, the Casper Element features AirScape foam in its comfort layer, and the Bowery has Energex foam and polyfoam in its comfort layer. Finally, the Casper Element also feels firmer at an 8/10, and the Bowery feels more like a 7.5/10.

Brooklyn Bedding Bowery - Construction

The mattresses are quite close in terms of price, but the Bowery does cost around $100 more than the Casper Element. Those who are trying to spend as little as possible might want to choose the Casper Element.

While the Element could be a fitting choice for lightweight sleepers such as children, the Bowery will work better for larger adults. Being the softer mattress, the Bowery should also be the better option for side sleepers.

Casper Element Mattress FAQs

Now, we would like to answer some frequently asked questions about the Casper Element mattress.

Is the Casper Element worth it?

The Casper Element is indeed worth it, but it might be too basic for larger adults. However, those who need something for light- or medium-weight sleepers can save some money by choosing the Casper Element.

Is the Casper Element firm?

This will depend on the weight of the person sleeping on the Casper Element, but we did find it to be a firmer mattress. Lightweight sleepers could feel like it is a softer mattress, but heavier sleepers could feel like it is a much firmer mattress.

Does the Casper Element sleep hot?

The Casper Element mattress does not sleep too hot and, while it is an all-foam mattress, its breathable top cover and comfort layer should keep sleepers from overheating at night.
