Best Costco Mattresses (2025)

Stearns & Foster, a brand that’s been in the mattress business since 1846, designed the Kirkland Signature as a luxury option that balances cushioning comfort with targeted support.. The top panel of the 14.5-inch hybrid mattress is made with Tencel, a breathable and moisture-wicking natural fabric. Two comfort layers, one gel and one memory foam, offer soft contouring and pressure relief. Just below is a sturdy layer featuring IntelliCoil technology. These individually wrapped coils respond to your body for support right where and when you need it. 

This combination of materials, along with its medium-firm feel, makes the Kirkland Signature suitable for a wide range of sleepers. It should offer a blend of softness and support, plus cooling from its myriad temperature-regulating features.

The Lakeridge mattress costs just over $1,000 for a queen, which, compared to other high-quality online mattresses, is quite affordable. It’s only available in queen, king, and California king sizes, but delivery and setup are included. Costco will even haul away your old mattress and box spring for free. 

The Signature Lakeridge is a hybrid mattress that the company says lands right in the middle of the firmness scale. This firmness might work for lightweight stomach sleepers, but heavier stomach sleepers will likely need something firmer. If you aren’t a Costco member, the Saatva Classic is a good alternative to the Kirkland Signature. It’s one of the most popular online luxury hybrid mattresses, combining a Euro pillow top with pocketed coils for a classic innerspring feel with both contouring and support. It also happens to be the mattress I sleep on every night. We rated it at an overall 4.4/5 score, with performance highlights in response and edge support, where it earned perfect 5/5 scores.

The Saatva’s double-innerspring construction is what gives it its major bounce. As a combination sleeper, I’m able to switch positions and move around on the surface of the mattress with extreme ease. I also tend to migrate to one side of the bed as I sleep, usually with a leg over the edge, so the Saatva’s edge support comes in handy here, too. I can get in and out of bed without fear of slipping out. This should also be a plus for older adults or those with mobility concerns.

I found the Saatva mattress to have a slightly firmer-than-medium-firm feel at 7/10 on our firmness scale. It has more of an “on top” feel, but that doesn’t mean there’s no contouring from the pillow top. It earned a 4.5/5 in our pressure relief tests, with our heavyweight tester Matt Schickling saying, “I feel really good. I actually physically felt the pressure relief on my lower back, which is rare.”

The bed’s cooling ability is also nothing to scoff at. Though the organic cotton cover isn’t exactly cool-to-the-touch, the bed itself kept cool during our temperature test. I lay on the mattress for about 7 minutes, and the temperature increased 7.7 degrees, as recorded by our thermal gun. This is a sign of fair cooling, but as I rested on the mattress, I didn’t notice any heat buildup. So, I gave it an overall score of 4/5 in this category. 

Where the Saatva falters is its motion isolation. Whenever I share the bed with my friend or partner, I can feel all of their movements. Rather than stifle motion, the Saatva Classic amplifies it. It’s why it only earned a 2.7/5 in our motion isolation tests, which produced similar results to what I feel at home. Another downside worth mentioning is that as a luxury mattress, this bed may not be in everyone’s price range. That said, I definitely think it’s worth every penny if you can splurge.

The Comfort Tech is a great option if you’re looking for a high-quality foam bed at an affordable price point. It comes in standard sizes, from twin to California king. Two foam layers are intended to deliver comfort, support, and durability. These also isolate motion well to minimize nighttime disruptions. The high-resiliency support foam below adds stability, structure, and additional support to keep you comfortable in different sleep positions.

While the Comfort Tech Serene mattress has a moisture-wicking cover that helps with cooling, it lacks the natural breathability of a hybrid mattress. On the plus side, the foam layers are CertiPUR-US-certified, which means they don’t contain toxic materials. It’s also a mattress made in America. 

This mattress comes in two firmness options, medium and firm. A queen-size Comfort Tech Serene mattress costs less than $500, even before any Costco discounts.

All-foam mattresses tend to trap heat more than other types of beds. If you easily overheat at night, the Comfort Tech might make the problem even worse. Instead, consider a hybrid mattress, which is more likely to be breathable.

Speaking of a hybrid alternative, why not consider the Helix Midnight? Though it’s a bit more expensive than the Comfort Tech, this mattress is priced reasonably given its quality and balanced features. It has all the comforting pressure relief of a foam mattress, but with strong coils to bolster the support. Dr. Raj Dasgupta recommends hybrid mattresses for this reason, as “their targeted support and versatile feel works for many sleeper types.” For reference, the Helix Midnight earned a 4.2/5 in our pressure map testing, with our testers particularly enjoying the mattress on their back and side. This is unsurprising as the mattress was built to be a medium-firm option for the latter group.

My fellow tester Nicole Davis lay on the Helix Midnight and found it to come in at about a 6/10 on our firmness scale, which is a smidge softer than the medium-firm. She chalked this up to the contour and cushioning you get at the surface. “I’m a side sleeper, and my hips feel cradled nicely while my shoulders are supported,” she said. Our lightweight tester Kate Gorman also enjoyed this mattress on her back, saying, “I feel equally supported across my whole body.” This spinal-aligning ability should make the Helix Midnight a great option for folks with back pain in either of these positions.

Another area that the mattress excelled in was cooling, where it earned a 4/5 score. Nicole also performed this test by taking the initial surface temperature of the bed with a thermal gun, and then again after lying on it for seven minutes. She recorded a 7.7-degree increase, an indication of above-average cooling. As for how the bed felt during this test, she said, “It feels nice and warm but not overly so. It’s cozy.”

The bed performed somewhat well in the areas of edge support and motion isolation. Nicole noted that she didn’t need to use her hands to get out of the bed, but there was a definite squishiness. Thus, she rated the edge support at a 3.8/5. Motion isolation was a similar case of nothing to write home about, earning it a score of 3.7/5. As her testing partner moved around on the other side of the mattress, Nicole felt all of his movements. She said, “It wasn’t rippling to the other side, necessarily, but I could definitely detect it.” 

A surprising area where the Helix Midnight faltered is response. Hybrid mattresses are known to perform well in this category because of their coils, but the Midnight fell short, earning just a 3/5 score. The pillow top caused a more doughy feel on the surface of the mattress, to which Nicole said, “It’s harder to go from back to stomach than it is stomach to back.” She did report finding it easier to switch to the side-sleeping position, however.

The Beautyrest Silver is a hybrid, medium-firm mattress and one of the brand’s most affordable options. It’s designed to actively cool you down with moisture-wicking fabric in the cover and gel-infused memory foam in the comfort layer. Just below, pocketed coils offer flexible support while also isolating motion transfer.

The combination of materials delivers the pressure-relieving comfort of memory foam without retaining excessive heat, which can be an issue in many memory foam mattresses. The medium-firm feel and contouring gel layer combine to create excellent lumbar support, making this a good mattress for back sleepers in particular.

This mattress is very affordable, costing just over $600 for a queen. Costco also offers free white glove delivery for the Beautyrest Silver, and removal of your old mattress is also included.

Combination back and side sleepers will likely want to seek out a softer mattress. When you sleep on your side, you want your shoulders and hips to sink below the mattress surface, so that these sensitive areas can be sufficiently cushioned. As such, you’ll want a mattress with a good amount of give. 

The DreamCloud is another good mattress for back sleepers. This hybrid mattress combines high-quality materials—including a cashmere-blend cover, gel-infused memory foam, and individually wrapped coils—for a better night’s sleep. It has plenty of lumbar support for back sleepers, who will also benefit from the gentle cushioning around their hips. The DreamCloud also scored high in response (4.5/5) and edge support (4/5) and earned an overall score of 4/5, so it should work great for back sleepers looking for ease of movement and the ability to spread out on their bed.

Despite having “cloud” in the name, this mattress has more of an “on-top” feeling. Our heavyweight tester Marten Carlson praised the bed’s ability to keep your spine aligned, saying, “On the DreamCloud, I felt best whenever I slept on my back. Because this mattress has a firmer feel, it offers plenty of lumbar support.” He rated the mattress at a 7.5/10 on our firmness scale, which actually skews more firm than medium-firm. 

As mentioned, this bed really stands out for its response. The coils in this mattress really pull their weight and make it easier to move around on the surface, even with the plush pillow top in place. If you’re a combination sleeper who switches between other positions besides just your back, you should be set with the DreamCloud. You should also be able to use most of the bed’s surface area. Marten also recorded only 2.5 inches of sagging as he sat on the edge, but when he laid down at the perimeter, he didn’t feel very secure.

On the downside, the DreamCloud doesn’t isolate motion particularly well, so it may not be the best choice for couples who are easily awakened by movement. Marten said, “I placed a glass of water right on top of the mattress, and pushing the area around it, I definitely saw some disturbance there.” He gave the bed a 3/5 in this category, so if you’re a light sleeper like myself, you might want to steer clear. And while it’s on the affordable end for hybrid mattresses compared to industry standard, it’s more expensive than the Beautyrest Silver.

The Simply Modern mattress is constructed like a luxury hybrid for a third (or less) of the price. The mattress has four layers of foams and coils. Gel-infused memory foam helps dissipate heat, isolate motion, and relieve pressure point pain by evenly distributing your weight against the mattress. In the contouring support layer, up to 975 individually wrapped coils respond to your movements and encourage airflow.

The mattress is made with CertiPUR-US certified non-toxic foams, a naturally derived fire barrier instead of chemical flame retardants, and uses recycled steel in its coils, making it a great mattress without fiberglass. It has a medium-firm feel that works well for different kinds of sleepers. Plus, the Simply Modern mattress comes with a lifetime warranty that protects against defects for the entire time you own it. 

Despite its affordable price point, this mattress has a high-quality hybrid construction. Hybrids tend to have great durability—in fact, if properly cared for, a hybrid mattress can last for upwards of 10 years. However, this mattress is only available in three sizes: queen, king, and California king. So, if you’re shopping for a smaller mattress, you’re out of luck.

If you’re looking for another high-quality hybrid without the Costco membership, consider checking out the WinkBed. This luxurious bed comes in multiple firmness levels, and we tested the Luxury Firm model. In our tests, this bed scored high in edge support (4.4/5) and cooling (4/5), features that should be appealing to those looking for a high-performing hybrid mattress.

The coils in a hybrid mattress provide more stability than you’ll find in most all-foam beds, especially around the perimeter where sagging is more likely. We test the edge support of a mattress by sitting and lying down at this part of the bed, and judging how much it sinks under our weight. When it comes to the WinkBed, my fellow tester Melanie Kassel felt relatively secure in both positions, but especially so when lying on her side (often the trickiest position for those who sleep on the perimeter). She said, “If my eyes had been closed, I would not have been able to tell you I was near the edge.”

In our cooling test, we measure how much the surface temperature of the bed increases after lying on it for about 7 minutes. Generally, we see increases around the 8-degree mark: The WinkBed was a little lower, with a 6.7-degree increase. Melanie noted, “It continued to feel nice and cool during my testing, which impressed me because the base feels so dense and solid under the nice plush pillow top.” Most hot sleepers who are unwilling to sacrifice the pillow-top feel may find their match in a WinkBed.

The WinkBed received some mid-range scores in pressure relief and motion isolation. For a firmer hybrid with responsive coils, this isn’t too surprising. Our pressure relief score (3.8/5) was mostly brought down by our lightweight tester, Kate Gorman, who disliked the bed on both her side and back. She noted a lack of shoulder support in both positions, interestingly saying she wanted more support, which contrasted with our average- and heavyweight testers who both praised the bed’s support.

To test motion isolation, we placed a water glass on one side of the bed and moved around on the other, leading to quite a bit of disturbance in the glass. Despite Melanie saying she wasn’t too stirred when her partner moved around on the other side of the bed, most light sleepers will probably want a bed with a higher score than 3.7/5. We usually associate poor motion isolation with a higher response score, but that wasn’t the case for the WinkBed. Melanie found it cumbersome to switch from her back to her stomach on this bed, and blamed the contours of the pillow top. These results gave the bed its lowest score in the response category, 3/5.

This 14-inch gel memory foam mattress is designed to combat memory foam’s tendency to retain heat while still offering the contouring benefits of this material. The cover is made with temperature-regulating fabric that feels cool to the touch, while the uppermost comfort layer is made with gel-infused memory foam to nix body heat buildup. The support and base layers add support and stability. All foams in the Novaform are CertiPUR-US certified.

The mattress is available in queen, king, and California king sizes only. Choose from plush, medium, and firm options to customize the support layer and best accommodate your preferred sleep style. Back and stomach sleepers will benefit from the medium and firm support levels, while side sleepers and fans of ultra-soft mattresses should do well with the medium and plush options.

Quite a few of the customer reviews call out the Novaform for poor edge support. This might be a problem for you, particularly if you sleep towards the perimeter of the mattress, as the edges might sag under your weight.

The Nolah Original is like most affordable foam mattresses but with a special twist. It’s made with a foam that the brand calls AirFoam. It’s similar to memory foam in terms of pressure relief, but it’s more responsive and doesn’t retain heat in the same way. It has a medium feel and accommodates both back and side sleepers nicely, with plenty of lumbar support and cushioning. The bed earned scores of 4 and above across the board for an overall score of 4.3/5, designating it as a high-performing foam mattress.

Unlike the Novaform, the Nolah Original offers reasonable edge support for an all-foam mattress. Expert tester Marten Carlson noted the bed compressing under his weight as he sat down on the edge, but he didn’t feel like he was going to slip off. It was the same story when he laid down, so he gave the bed an edge support score of 4/5. Older adults or those with mobility concerns wanting a memory foam mattress should benefit the most.

We’re unsurprised that this cushy, medium-soft bed performed great in the pressure relief category (4/5), allowing for comfortable sinkage on our testers’ sides and contouring on their backs. However, based on the way this bed swaddles you, we were surprised by the 4/5 cooling score we gave this mattress. We thought the bed’s breathable cover and the nature of the AirFoam kept air moving through the layers of this mattress. As Marten summed up in his review, “Overall, we were not overheating when we slept on the Nolah Original.” Again, this is another rarity for a foam mattress.

Unfortunately, the Nolah Original doesn’t come with a choice of comfort levels. Marten rated it at a 6/10 on firmness scale, which he called “a little softer than average,” which is medium-firm. Thus, it may be too soft for certain sleepers, especially those with bigger bodies who prefer to sleep on their stomach. It also may not be the most responsive mattress even with the addition of AirFoam, so I’d recommend something with coils for combination sleepers.

The Sealy Posturepedic is a popular mattress with a balanced foam feel. It has a hybrid construction, active cooling upgrades, and durable coils that offer support from edge to edge, which makes it a good choice for sleepers who weigh over 230 lbs. The mattress has a medium feel, so it’s a good compromise for couples with different ideas of comfort. Keep in mind that body weight affects how firm a mattress feels, so heavier sleepers may find it’s on the softer side.

Hybrid mattresses generally circulate air better than all-foam mattresses, and the Sealy Posturepedic takes cooling even further with its knit cover. It’s made with cool-to-the-touch fibers. It’s also finished with a protective coating to guard against stains and odors.

The mattress offers impressive edge support thanks to a greater number of encased coils around the perimeter. That makes it easier to get in and out of bed while also maximizing the sleep surface, another feature heavyweight sleepers might appreciate.

The Sealy Posturepedic has a classic hybrid feel, meaning it’s quite bouncy and responsive. If you prefer a mattress with a cloud-like, doughy feel then you might be better off with a memory foam mattress. Also, a foam mattress will be better at isolating motion if you sleep with a partner.

The Plank Firm is a memory foam mattress, though it doesn’t have the doughy feel associated with most all-foam beds, as the name implies. This flippable, ultra-firm bed is designed to appease shoppers who have been let down by so-called firm mattresses. This can include heavyweight sleepers according to Dr. Raj Dasgupta, who says, “Those weighing over 230 pounds may need a firmer mattress to offer better support and keep them from sinking in too far.” Both sides of the Plank Firm mattress (“traditional” firm and extra-firm sides) skewed toward 8 or 9 on our firmness scale. The bed earned an overall score of 3.9/5, but it excelled most in edge support (4.8/5) and motion isolation (4.3/5).

Edge support can be useful for many reasons, specifically for heavier folks looking to make full use of their bed’s entire surface. The Plank Firm has edge support down pat; as my fellow tester Cait Giddings put it, “The entire bed felt like a lying on a slab of concrete with defined edges.” If you have mobility concerns or otherwise find yourself using the edge of your mattress as another chair, you should be pleased with the Plank’s unyielding perimeter.

Unlike the Sealy Posturepedic, we found that the Plank Firm isolated motion fairly well. My fellow tester Melanie Kassel was especially impressed during the partner test, during which another person moved around on the bed’s surface while she noted how much disruption she experienced. She said, “I could feel a few of my fellow tester’s movements, but it was only when a part of her body hit the bed with an especially ‘bouncy’ impact.” This brought the overall motion isolation score to a 4.3/5.

Foam beds aren’t known for their bounce, and though we wouldn’t call the Plank Firm particularly “bouncy,” it’s certainly responsive. Both Melanie and Cait had a fairly easy time moving around on the surface of both sides of the Plank Firm, contributing to its response score of 4/5. Cait especially appreciated how little body-impression sinkage there seemed to be, saying, “If this mattress suddenly developed sentience, it would have no memory of me ever being on it whatsoever.”

The most obvious negative of the Plank Firm is just that: It’s firm. Some folks might consider this a specialty mattress because of its firmness, so if you’re already second-guessing whether it’s too firm for you, turn away. But heavyweight sleepers, this firmness will work in your favor. Our heavyweight tester really enjoyed the more traditional firm side on his back, appreciating the steady alignment it gave his spine.

Side sleepers need a mattress that’s supportive enough to maintain spinal alignment, but soft enough to cradle the hips and shoulders. These spots may lead to pressure point pain on surfaces that don’t offer enough “give.” The Leesa Legend is an all-foam mattress with a balanced feel. It’s soft, thanks to a bouncier upper foam layer, but contouring, thanks to the memory foam in the second layer. The combination is ideal for most side sleepers. 

The upper layer responds quickly and is designed for breathability, so you shouldn’t get excessively warm during the night. But if you love the slow-moving feel of memory foam, you won’t find that here. Below the comfort layers is a firm, durable polyfoam that boosts support and stability. Together, these layers make the Legend a great option for side sleepers.

There are a few drawbacks worth keeping in mind. The mattress offers decent motion isolation, but it’s lacking in edge support. You can test the Leesa Legend to see if it works for you with a 100-night sleep trial.

Like the Leesa Legend, the Bear Elite Hybrid has a balanced foam feel, but the addition of a zoned coil layer makes it more responsive and supportive. Side sleepers will appreciate this support system, which helps cushion the hips and shoulders to prevent pressure point pain. Dr. Raj Dasgupta recommends a “medium or soft mattress with contouring materials” for these folks, and thankfully, the Bear Elite comes in both Soft and Medium iterations. We gave this mattress a 4/5 for pressure relief, and it’s a well-rounded mattress overall, coming in with an overall score of 4.2/5.

We test pressure relief by inviting sleepers of different sizes to try out the mattress on their back and side. For the Bear Elite Hybrid, our average-weight tester Sosha Lewis noted that despite the bed’s firmer feel (which she rated at 7/10), she got plenty of contouring on her side. Our lightweight tester Kate Gorman said that her hips and shoulders were supported. The only tester who was a bit uncomfortable was our heavyweight tester Matt Schickling. He said, “I feel pressure building in both my shoulder and neck.” Heavier folks may want to look for a pillow with a higher loft to prevent this issue, so their upper half can be in line with their hips as they sink lower into the mattress.

The Bear Elite’s highest score was in the response category, a perfect 5/5. My fellow tester Cait Giddings performed the test by seeing how easy it was to roll around on the mattress surface and switch positions. She noted, “The bouncy core of the mattress made it a breeze to launch myself in and out of bed or roll around.” Usually, this would mean a lower motion isolation score, but Cait scored the bed well in this area too (4/5). She could feel it when her testing partner got in and out of the bed, but said, “I don’t think I’d be awakened or disturbed by that level of movement.”

The edge support on this bed is also nothing to scoff at. During testing, Cait proclaimed, “It was so easy to get out of this bed that I felt like I essentially bounced out.” If you’re an older sleeper or looking for a bed that can help with mobility issues, the Elite Hybrid’s firm perimeter should make sitting and lying on this mattress like a breeze. The only thing of note is that its 14-inch profile may be a bit wieldy for shorter folks when getting in and out of bed.

The Bear Elite Hybrid didn’t shine in the cooling department, earning only 2.5/5. This was because of its thermal gun results; we assign our objective cooling score after recording the temperature at the surface of the bed before and after lying on it for 7 minutes. Cait, who performed this test, recorded a whopping 12.6-degree increase between the two readings, which is nearly twice the increase we tend to record from beds with good cooling. However, she pushed back against this score as she never felt she was overheating while on the mattress—though she did note that she’s a “perpetually cold person.”

This Sleep Science mattress is an all-foam option constructed with cooler nights in mind. Bamboo charcoal-infused memory foam absorbs moisture and dissipates odor, while the gel-infused memory foam helps minimize heat retention. Air channels in the base layer also improve airflow, which can be an issue in all-foam mattresses. 

Edge support is another issue often found in all-foam mattresses. The Sleep Science mattress combats this by encasing its perimeter with a wedge-shaped foam slab designed to not only reinforce the edges but also extend the life of the mattress by preventing premature sagging. There’s also a zipper sewn into the top half of the mattress. You can remove the cover for easy cleaning right at home, which isn’t a common feature in mattresses.

One drawback to the Sleep Science mattress is its limited sizing. It’s only available in queen, king, and California king sizes. There’s also only one firmness option, so if you want something softer for side sleepers, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

If cooler sleep is the goal, the aptly named Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling just may be the answer. It’s one of the coolest mattresses on the market, thanks to a breathable cover, gel-infused foam, and an innerspring unit made of pocketed coils. We rated its cooling ability at 4.5/5, but it performed well across the board. All scores were above a 4/5, contributing to the bed’s overall score of 4.4/5.

To get more into the specifics of how we test cooling:  We first take an initial reading of the bed’s surface temperature with our thermal gun. Next, we lie down on the surface for about 7 minutes, then record the temperature again. For the Aurora Luxe, my fellow tester Cait Giddings performed the cooling test. She recorded an initial temperature of 68.2 degrees, which only rose to 74.1 degrees, for an overall increase of less than 6 degrees. This is a sign of great cooling, just below the often-seen average of 7 to 9 degrees. Cait said she didn’t feel the mattress heating up and called the cover “crisp and slippery.”

Where the Aurora Luxe earned the highest score was in response, a perfect 5/5. Cait said the surface of the mattress was “buoyant,” adding, “I didn’t sink into the mattress surface at all; I felt like I was almost floating on its surface.” With these results, we’d expect motion to carry across the surface, but we rated the bed’s motion isolation at 4/5. Cait noted, “I could feel my fellow tester climb into bed and switch positions, but it didn’t feel disruptive.” The edges of the mattress should also allow you and your partner to make full use of the bed’s surface, as in our testing they didn’t compress much under our weight.

As for which sleeper types would prefer this mattress, back sleepers are going to be kings here. Our pressure relief testers quite liked the balance of support and plushness from the pillow top in this position. We rated the mattress firmness for the Medium model at a 7.5/10 on our scale, quite a bit firmer than the brand’s rating. This means it might work better for those of an average or heavier weight—though our lightweight tester also said she liked it on her back and side, only noticing minimal pressure buildup.

With its overall high scores, it’s difficult to find something to complain about. The most glaring issue for some may be the price. Even with sales and coupons, a queen-size Aurora Luxe can still run you close to $1,700. This is more than twice the price of the Bamboo Cool mattress, but I’d say that it’s worth every penny.
