Awara Premier Mattress Firmness and Feel
One of the most important parts of a buying a new mattress is seeing how firm it is and how it feels when you rest on it. Let’s talk about it.
How Firm is the Awara Premier?
The Awara Premier is a hybrid mattress that comes in at 6.5/10 on our firmness scale. We rank mattresses on a scale from 1 to 10, with 6.5 being the industry standard. Because it features latex and pocketed coils, the Awara Premier has that classic medium-firm feel.
Sleeping On The Awara Premier
Like any mattress, the Awara Premier will feel different depending on your preferred sleeping position. Side and back sleepers alike should think this mattress is a winner. While resting on our backs, we felt a good amount of comfort and support, which is important for back sleeping.
While resting on our sides, we felt a good amount of pressure relief, especially in our shoulders. This makes it a good pick for side sleepers.
Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, might need a firmer mattress. With the plush Euro top and medium-firmness level, your hips might sink too far into the top layer. This could cause some back pain later on down the line. Stomach sleepers typically need a firm mattress to keep their hips in the correct spinal alignment.
What Does the Awara Premier Feel Like?
With pocketed coils, a plush Euro top, and natural dunlop latex, the Awara Premier feels quite responsive. You’re going to sleep more on top of this mattress as opposed to sinking into it.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average weight back and side sleepers should sleep well on the Awara Premier. The pocketed coils provide a decent amount of support, while the organic latex feels comfortable.
Side sleepers will find a little bit of body contouring thanks to the latex layer. Because of its coil system, you won’t sink into this bed. You’ll still feel plenty of oh-so satisfying pressure relief in your shoulders, though.
Average weight stomach sleepers may need a firmer mattress. Stomach sleepers will want to prevent their hips from sinking into the top comfort layers. If you’re looking for a firmer mattress, check out our Awara Organic Luxury Mattress review.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
Heavier back sleepers should find the coil system and dunlop latex layer creates plenty of support and comfort. However, heavier side sleepers may compress that latex layer too much, and pressure could build up in the shoulders and hips.
Heavier stomach sleepers will undoubtedly need a firmer mattress. Unfortunately, you’ll just sink into the latex, and you won’t be able to keep your hips elevated. If you’re shopping for one of the best mattresses for heavy people, we suggest you keep looking.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Lightweight people should think the Awara Premier feels rather comfortable in all sleeping positions. Lightweight back sleepers, too, will feel a nice combination of support and comfort. And if you’re a lightweight side sleeper, the Awara will also be a fantastic choice. Especially lightweight stomach sleepers might be able to sleep on the Awara Premier because they won’t compress the layers too much.
Awara Premier Mattress Construction
So what makes this mattress so eco-friendly? Let’s see what Awara has put into this mattress.
Cover
The Awara Premier’s cover is made of organic cotton and New Zealand wool. Cotton is a very breathable material, and in combination with the natural wool, the cover should help you stay cool and dry at night.
Comfort Layer
The main comfort layer contains 4” of Rainforest Alliance certified Dunlop latex foam. This layer creates nice softness and a little bit of body contouring. Latex feels breathable and responsive, especially in comparison to memory foam.
Support Layer
At the base of this bed, we find the 8” layer of pocketed coils. Hybrid mattresses usually sleep fairly cool because of their coils. There’s plenty of space between them, which promotes good airflow throughout the bed. This also adds to the durability of the mattress.
Mattress Height
The Awara Premier is 12” tall.

Awara Premier Mattress Performance
So, want to know how the Awara Premier performed for us? Let’s see how it did.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Awara Premier felt relatively cool and comfortable when we tested it out. The breathable cotton cover and the coil support layer work to give you a cool night of sleep. Hot sleepers — rejoice!
Motion Transfer
Hybrid mattresses don’t typically isolate motion well. But, surprisingly, the Awara Premier does a great job! This is especially important to couples, because they might not want to feel their partner move around or get out of bed. Sensitive sleepers, however, might notice the motion.

Edge Support
With 8” of pocketed coils, the Premier performed well when it came to edge support. When I tested it out, I felt quite secure sitting and sleeping near the edge of this mattress.
Durability
Hybrid beds are known for their durability. We fully expect the Awara Premier to last at least at least 10 years.
Off-Gassing
The Awara Premier is a bed-in-a-box. So when you unbox it, you may notice some off-gassing or chemical smells. Don’t worry though, this should dissipate after about 24 – 48 hours.
Noise
We didn’t notice any noise when we tested the Awara Premier. Because of its coils, though, you may notice some noise over time.
Sex
When looking for one of the best mattresses for sex, responsiveness is super important. The bed needs to be able to support you and your partner and make it easy to change positions. The Awara should be nice and stable for sex, thanks to its bouncy coils.
Company Policies
Customers often want to know that they’re being taken care of every step of the way, so let’s take a moment to learn more about Awara’s company policies.
Warranty Info
Awara wants to make sure that you’re covered when you buy one of their mattresses. The Awara Premier comes with a forever warranty!
Sleep Trial
Most companies have a trial period that only lasts about three months. But when you buy an Awara mattress, you’ll have the luxury to test it out with a 365-night sleep trial.
Return Policy
If, within the trial period, you decide you don’t want your Awara Premier mattress, then you can send it back for free and receive a full refund.
Common Awara Premier Complaints
When looking at customer reviews, most of the complaints were about the Awara Premier’s firmness level. Some people found the mattress to be too soft, while lighter people found the mattress to be too firm for them.
But, remember, if the Awara Premier feels too soft, you can always purchase one of the best mattress toppers.
How Does The Awara Premier Compare To Other Mattresses?
When looking for a new mattress, it’s always a great idea to take a look at several brands. Let’s see how the Awara Premier compares to the Avocado Green and DreamCloud mattresses.
Awara Premier Vs. Avocado
If you’re a big fan of eco-friendly latex mattresses, then you’ve probably heard of the Avocado Mattress.
Both the Awara Premier and the Avocado Green are hybrid mattresses that feature dunlop latex foam and pocketed coils. However, there are a few differences between the two.
In our experience, the Awara’s thicker dunlop latex layer provided for much better motion isolation. When testing the Avocado, we noticed a lot more motion transfer, and we could feel when someone changed positions or got out of bed.
We didn’t find that to be too much of a problem with the Awara, so if you’re in the market for a bed that isolates motion well, this might be your pick.
For sleeping positions, the Awara wins when it comes to side sleeping. We felt significant pressure relief in our shoulders. On the Avocado, back sleepers of all body types should feel plenty of comfort and support.
And finally, if you’re more concerned about price, then the Avocado is your choice. It’s a bit more affordable than the Awara.
Who Should get the Awara Premier?
- Shoppers concerned with motion transfer
- Side sleepers
Who should get the Avocado?
- Shoppers on a budget
- Back sleepers

Awara Premier Vs. DreamCloud
Hybrid mattresses can feature latex foam, like the Awara, or they can feature a memory foam top layer. One hybrid mattress that has that memory foam is the DreamCloud. Let’s see how Awara compares.
As we said, construction varies here. The Awara’s main comfort layer consists of 4” of natural dunlop rubber latex, while the DreamCloud features a gel-infused memory foam layer.
DreamCloud’s comfort and support layers make it a bit taller than the Awara, coming in at 14” over Awara’s 12”.
When looking at sleeping positions, the DreamCloud really shines for back sleepers. You’ll likely sink into the memory foam just a bit more than the Awara’s latex foam, but the coils should still offer good support. Side sleepers will still find all the pressure relief they need on the Awara Premier.
And finally, in terms of price, DreamCloud comes in at a more affordable price point.
Who Should Get the Awara Premier?
- Side sleepers
- Fans of responsive latex mattresses
Who should get the DreamCloud?
- Fans of slow-moving memory foam
- Back sleepers
