Ahead of the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon, performance lifestyle brand BEDGEAR announced its new, limited-edition Zoom pillow designed for this year’s marathon runners.

“The Zoom pillow was developed specifically to show BEDGEAR’s appreciation to the global running community and their family and friends by providing them with a unique and personalized way to celebrate an amazing milestone achievement – the 2018 New York City Marathon!” BEDGEAR Senior PR Manager Allie Hartman told Mattress Clarity via email.

The brand says the pillows reflect the spirit of the race alongside BEDGEAR’s innovation and advanced fabric technologies.

Zoom Pillow Details

The Zoom pillow comes in four different sizes: 0.0, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. According to a statement from BEDGEAR, each profile is tailored to different body types and sleep positions.

“The cover features BEDGEAR’s Dri-Tec fabric that wicks away moisture, enabling the body to regulate its temperature at night for a cooler and drier sleep, helping runners recover at night and be more awake to perform the next day,” BEDGEAR said.

Ample research suggests good sleep is important for athletes, including endurance runners and marathoners. For example, a 2015 study of soccer players, which was published in the journal Sports Medicine, found that adequate sleep is essential for muscle recovery. Meanwhile, a 2011 study of basketball players, which was published in Sleep, found that quality sleep is essential for maintaining top-notch athletic performance.

“The best thing I see here is the customization and the temperature control,” veteran New York City Marathon runner Ross Vedder told us after reading about the special edition Zoom pillow. “I think athletes probably run hot for the most part, so having a cooler pillow is often better, especially for me.”

Vedder, who will be running his seventh marathon this year, told Mattress Clarity the most important night of sleep isn’t just the one before the race. It’s the five nights leading up to it.

“Anything that gets me consistent, high-quality sleep is going to be really helpful… The ability to find just the right pillow with this is probably what is most helpful about it,” he said.

To get fitted for a pillow, marathon runners can visit BEDGEAR’s booth (#469) at the TCS New York City Marathon Expo, where they will be greeted by a Sleep Coach. Sleep Coaches will assess a runner’s body type, temperature preferences, and preferred sleep position to identify which pillow would best support their head, neck and shoulders, Hartman told us.

The limited-edition Zoom pillow is also available for purchase online via BEDGEAR’s website for $119.

The 2018 TCS New York City Marathon will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4, and the TCS New York City Marathon Expo presented by New Balance is open Nov. 1 to 3.
