Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper Firmness & Feel
For those that want to change the firmness of their mattress, toppers are one of the most common ways to do so. Plushbeds, however, offers its latex topper in five different firmness levels.
For this review, I received the medium option, so that’s what we’re focusing on.
What’s the Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper’s Firmness?
As I mentioned, the Plushbeds Latex mattress topper comes in five firmness options: soft, med-soft, medium, med-firm, and extra-firm. The topper also comes in 2” and 3” height options. For this review, I received the medium, 3” tall topper.
This level of customization is pretty impressive, and I don’t see it often for toppers. The medium, 3” tall topper had some give, but still felt nice and supportive. I imagine the height can make these firmnesses feel a little different as well. And it’s important to note that firmness can change based on your height and weight. But overall, this felt solidly medium when I tested it.
What does the Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper Feel Like?
This topper has a bouncy, responsive feel. Latex foam is different from traditional memory foam in this way. You won’t sink into this topper, but you’ll still get good support and cushioning while using this topper. And because it’s so responsive, you can move around on it very easily.
Sleeping on the Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper
Getting the Plushbeds Latex mattress topper out of the box was a bit more challenging for me than other toppers. Again, I received the medium, 3” topper with a cotton cover. It was quite a heavy topper! I’d definitely recommend two people getting this out of the box and on to your mattress.
Once it was on the mattress, it was smooth sailing. The medium, 3” version of this topper is going to be a good option for most sleepers. I started out on my side and felt some really great pressure relief.
Because this isn’t traditional memory foam, I did feel like it was on top of this topper, rather sinking into it. But it still offered the contouring and pressure relief that side sleepers need, so I’d recommend it to this group.
Moving on to my back, I felt very comfortable here, too. I think the 3” option helped me not to bottom out of this topper. I felt a great balance of comfort and support here. Finally, moving to my stomach, I also felt good support! I
f you’re a heavy bodied individual who likes stomach sleeping, definitely get the 3” height. The medium firmness was comfortable, but I think getting the medium-firm or extra-firm options will keep your hips elevated even better.
30-60 Min Nap
I was quite excited to take a quick nap on this topper. Getting onto this topper was a breeze because of latex’s bounciness. I didn’t feel like I was fighting the foam to get into bed. I slept on my side and could barely feel the mattress underneath. So if you’re looking to soften a mattress, this topper is definitely a good choice.
While I napped, my shoulders and hips felt little to no pressure. Latex is very supportive that way. Because of its support and responsiveness, changing over to my other side was very easy, too. I think this configuration worked really well for my body type. For reference, I’m a heavyweight side sleeper, but I’m not that tall. So, the medium, 3” topper was the Goldilocks option for me!
But let’s talk about how this topper can work for other body types.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
I think my version of the topper will work well for most average weight side and back sleepers. Especially those who find their mattress to be just a touch too firm. If you’re looking to significantly soften your mattress, opt for the medium-soft or soft firmness option in the 3” height.
Stomach sleepers could do well with the 2” option in the medium, medium-firm, or extra firm. I think the 3” option will be too tall and you could run the risk of your hips dipping too far down.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
For other heavyweight sleepers, I would definitely recommend the medium, 3” option for side and back sleeping to start. Because us heavyweight folks compress the foam more than others, you might sink too far down into the medium-soft or soft option.
Similarly to stomach sleepers, the 2” option in any of the three non-soft firmnesses should be good, but I’d really recommend medium-firm or extra-firm for stomach sleeping.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lb
For lightweight sleepers, I wouldn’t recommend going over medium if you want the 3” option. Side sleepers should get good pressure relief this way. But overall, lightweight side sleepers might not compress the medium option enough and find it too firm.
Back sleepers who want to soften their mattress could do well with the support that the medium 3” offers. But if you only need to slightly soften your mattress, go with the 2”. Most lightweight stomach sleepers should enjoy the 3” option in medium or medium-firm, as extra-firm might be too firm.
Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper Construction
Let’s take a look at the high-quality materials that go into the Plushbeds Latex mattress topper.
Cover
The Plushbeds Latex topper has the option to add an organic cotton cover for an extra fee. For this review, I opted for the cotton cover. It felt very soft, and is nice and breathable so you won’t have to worry about it trapping heat. This cotton has been Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified, meaning it is 100% organic.
Comfort Layer
Plushbeds uses Talalay latex in its mattress topper. This is one of two types of latex foam, the other being Dunlop. Talalay latex is much softer and not as dense as Dunlop. The main difference here is that Talalay is blended with both natural latex and synthetic materials to make it feel this way.
The latex used has been OEKO-Tex® and GREENGUARD Gold certified. These two certifications mean that the latex is produced with safe practices without harmful chemicals,
Topper Height
Plushbeds offers this topper in 2” or 3” height options. The 2” option is for those who like their current mattress, but want just a bit more comfort. The 3” option is for those who want to get more cushioning and support because their current mattress does not provide enough.

Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper Performance
Let’s discuss some other key considerations for the Plushbeds Latex mattress topper.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
As a hot sleeper, I can happily report that the Plushbeds Latex topper is a good option for hot sleepers. Latex foam is a very breathable material, and the foam has been perforated with holes which allow for airflow. And because it doesn’t use your body heat to contour to your body, like traditional memory foam, it doesn’t trap heat either.
And if you opt for the cotton cover like I did, you’ll still stay relatively comfortable. Cotton is super breathable and doesn’t trap heat.
Durability
Latex is a naturally durable material. With good care and if you rotate your topper often, this topper should last you around three to five years.
Off-Gassing
The Plushbeds topper does come to you wrapped in plastic. Once I removed it from its packaging, the topper was ready to use! It may have a faint rubber smell, as latex comes from rubber trees, or it may also have a faint chemical smell from the packaging process. Both of these should dissipate after about 24 to 48 hours.
Cleaning
You should try your best to avoid spills and other stains happening in your bed. If you don’t opt for the cotton cover, using a mattress protector can help protect your topper. If you do opt for the cover, it is removable, but Plushbeds recommends hand washing it and letting it air dry.
Allergens
Latex foam is naturally hypoallergenic, so for those with sensitive allergies, you won’t have to worry about the topper trapping allergens in your sleep environment.
Company Policies
Here’s what you can expect when you make a purchase from Plushbeds.
Warranty
You’ll have a 5-year warranty on the Plushbeds Latex mattress topper.
Sleep Trial
Plushbeds does not offer a trial period on the latex topper.
Return Policy
You cannot return the latex mattress topper due to safety and sanitary concerns. If you need a different size, Plushbeds mentions that you should double check your order to ensure you requested the right size. If you didn’t, reach out to customer support as soon as possible so Plushbeds can give you the correct size before it has shipped out.
If you did get the incorrect size, Plushbeds requests that you leave it unopened if possible, and you’ll be sent a new one, though you will be responsible for shipping costs on the new topper. Otherwise, Plushbeds does offer free shipping on all orders.
How Does the Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper Compare to Other Toppers?
If you’ve never used latex foam before, it’s always a good idea to do a little comparison shopping to fully understand what it is you’re about to purchase. Let’s compare the Plushbeds Latex topper with two memory foam mattress toppers.
Plushbeds vs Saatva
Latex foam and memory foam have totally different feels. Memory foam has that slow-moving, almost quicksand feel to it that contours to your body and lets you sink in. Latex foam is very bouncy and responsive. One of our favorite memory foam toppers comes from Saatva.
Both the Plushbeds and Saatva’s toppers are great options for hot sleepers due to a breathable design or a graphite infusion. But the main difference is the way these toppers feel. Plushbeds offers a variety of firmness options, while Saatva only offers one. But with Saatva, the topper’s outer cover has straps which can securely attach the topper to your mattress.

Plushbeds vs Coop Sleep Goods
Memory foam can come in single slabs or it can be shredded. And if you want more of a memory foam/pillow-top feel to your mattress, then try the Coop Sleep Goods Retreat topper. This topper features a baffle box construction with shredded foam, meaning the outer cover is sewn through and sections the foam off to prevent it clumping on one side.
The Coop Sleep Goods Retreat topper is better for side sleepers looking to add some pressure relieving memory foam on the top of their mattress. And the baffle box construction makes it feel like you’re sleeping on memory foam pillows. Because the Plushbeds topper has multiple firmness options, it can work for anyone, like stomach sleepers, who can opt for the firm version to get a firmer feel.

FAQs
Still need a question answered? I’ve collected a few of the most frequently asked questions about Plushbeds, its products, and the latex topper.
What kind of latex does Plushbeds use?
Plushbeds uses Talalay latex in its mattress topper. This is a soft, bouncy, and responsive type of latex. It has been perforated with holes which allow for airflow. Plushbeds also uses latex that is OEKO-TEX® and GREENGUARD Gold certified. This means that the latex is processed without harsh chemicals.
Is latex or memory foam better for a mattress topper?
The answer to this question is really down to personal preference. If you like being able to get in and out of bed with ease, and don’t mind sleeping more “on top” of your mattress rather than sinking into it, latex is the way to go.
But if you prefer that classic, slow-moving memory foam feel, opt for traditional foam. Be sure to check out our list of the best memory foam mattress toppers for all our top picks!
How long with the Plushbeds Latex Mattress Topper last?
At least five years. Plushbeds mentions that latex is very durable, and can sometimes last up to 20 years. But for a topper that gets used every night, even with the added cotton cover, it might not last that long.
However, toppers are usually short term solutions for an old mattress or a mattress that is too firm or too soft, so you may not need it that long either. Regardless, Plushbeds also offers a 5-year warranty on the latex topper.
