In my unbiased MOLECULE CopperWELL topper review, I’ll go over all the important details. From its performance, price, material, and more, by the end of the review, you should have a better idea of if this topper is a good choice for you.
MOLECULE Copperwell Mattress Topper
The MOLECULE Copperwell mattress topper is a 3″ thick memory foam topper. It has that slow-moving feeling to add comfort and pressure relief to your mattress, and shouldn’t trap a lot of heat.
MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper Overview
As a brand, MOLECULE is dedicated to making sleep restorative and energizing. And with endorsements from celebrity athletes like Michael Phelps, it’s going to pique some interest. We’ve tested the base model MOLECULE mattress and the MOLECULE HYBRID before. However, if you’ve got a mattress that you like but needs a little tweaking, the MOLECULE CopperWELL topper could be the perfect addition.
Before I get too far into the review, here’s a quick overview of the CopperWELL topper to give you a good idea of who should enjoy this topper, and who might need to look for something else.

MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper Firmness & Feel
Let’s talk about how you can expect the MOLECULE CopperWELL topper to change your mattress’s firmness and feel.
What’s the MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper’s Firmness?
This is a very soft topper. It’s made of foam, and is intended to soften your mattress. Here at Mattress Clarity, we rate a mattress’s firmness on a scale from one to 10, with one being incredibly soft, and 10 being extremely firm.
The bed I tested it out on was closer to a 6.5/10, or a classic medium-firm bed. With the CopperWELL topper, this bed felt about two points softer, bringing it down to a 4.5/10. So, if you have a mattress that feels like an 8/10, I’d say this topper will soften that considerably.
What Does the MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper Feel Like?
MOLECULE makes the CopperWELL topper entirely out of memory foam. True to what most people associate with memory foam, this topper has that soft, slow-moving feeling to it. If you press your hand into it, the topper will slowly move back into place. For some, this could add the ideal feeling to the top of their mattress.
Sleeping on the MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper
My initial test for toppers is to test them out in each of the three sleeping positions for a few minutes to see how the topper will feel. Starting out on my back, I felt myself sink into the topper a considerable amount. So much so, that I felt my hips dip into it more than I usually notice on other materials.
When it came time to change over to my side, I struggled a little to do so. This topper’s slow-moving quality is great for cushioning and pressure relief, but if you’re someone who switches sides or positions during the night, doing so might be challenging. When I finally got on my side, though, the topper really shone. I felt little to no pressure relief on my shoulders and hips.
Finally, I moved over to my stomach. Again, I felt my hips sink into the topper, but even more than while I was on my back. After about a minute, I felt a strain on my lower back from my spine being out of alignment,so I wouldn’t recommend this topper to strict stomach sleepers.
30-60 Min Nap with the MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper
Our nap test is our most true-to-life test for the products we review. Because I think this topper works out well for side sleepers, and I happen to be a side sleeper myself, this worked out really well for me. Once I settled into the topper, I felt really comfortable. I’m also a bigger guy, so I did feel myself compress the foam a good bit. However, I never felt myself touch the mattress underneath, so it was able to support me quite well.
As I mentioned above, I felt little pressure on my hips and shoulders. So, if you’re looking for a topper to soften your mattress and get some pressure relief, this is a great choice. I do tend to switch between my two sides while I sleep, but because this topper is so slow-moving and hard to move around on, I felt like I needed to stay in one spot.
Average-Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
For average-weight back and side sleepers, the MOLECULE CopperWELL topper should be a great choice. Back sleepers will likely be able to get good body contouring if their bed is too firm. Side sleepers can expect good pressure relief thanks to this topper’s thick and slow-moving foam. I don’t recommend this topper for stomach sleepers because it’s too soft and not supportive enough.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
For my fellow heavyweight sleepers, I think that this topper only works best for side sleepers. Some back sleepers might have their hips sink too far into the topper, which could cause strain on the lower back, which could lead to some back pain. Similarly, heavyweight stomach sleepers will compress the foam a good deal, and won’t find enough support for their hips.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lb
Lightweight back and side sleepers who need to soften their mattress should find a perfect match with the CopperWELL topper. They won’t compress the foam too much, so they’ll get some added pressure relief and body contouring. I still would be hesitant to recommend this to lightweight stomach sleepers, just because this topper isn’t firm enough to offer support.
MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper Construction
Let’s take a look at the materials that go into the MOLECULE CopperWELL mattress topper.
Cover
The MOLECULE CopperWELL topper does not come with an outer cover. It is designed to rest under your fitted sheet.
Comfort Layer
MOLECULE uses copper bead-infused memory foam for the CopperWELL mattress topper. The foam is soft and, as mentioned throughout the review, has a slow-moving quality to it. The copper beads are included as a way to pull body heat away from you while you rest.
The surface of the topper has what MOLECULE calls the HexFLO design. This hexagonal pattern on the topper is intended to help air flow through the topper, and is split up into sections. This can help target different parts of the body to give additional support or pressure relief where needed.
Topper Height
The CopperWELL topper is 3” tall.

MOLECULE Copperwell Mattress Topper
The MOLECULE Copperwell mattress topper is a 3″ thick memory foam topper. It has that slow-moving feeling to add comfort and pressure relief to your mattress, and shouldn’t trap a lot of heat.
MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper Performance
Let’s take a look at other important factors for the CopperWELL topper.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
After about an hour resting on the CopperWELL topper, I didn’t notice any heat buildup. This topper does have some features to it that can help out hot sleepers. The top of the topper has a hexagon grid pattern which creates air channels and can allow for airflow. MOLECULE also infuses this foam with copper beads, which is intended to pull body heat away from you. So, even though memory foam has generally been known to trap heat, this topper should sleep relatively cool for most.
Durability
The CopperWELL is a single slab of memory foam that doesn’t come with a cover. While it comes with a 5-year limited warranty, memory foam toppers with this design aren’t always the most durable. I expect this topper to last about two to three years before you may notice sagging or potential rips in the foam.
Off-Gassing
The MOLECULE CopperWELL topper comes compressed inside a cardboard box. The topper will need some time to expand once you fully unpackage it. For me, this process took around 20 to 30 minutes. Sometimes, when foam toppers are compressed, they may also have a chemical smell to them. This is only a result of the compression process, but you may want to let the topper air out in a ventilated area before first use. The smell should dissipate after 24-48 hours.
I noticed a faint smell from this topper, so it didn’t bother me. But I was getting over a cold at the time of writing this article, so the smell may also not have been as strong for me because of that.
Cleaning
Because memory foam cannot be washed, spot cleaning the topper is the only way to clean it. For best results, remove your fitted sheet and mix either soap or a liquid detergent with warm water to spot treat affected areas.
Allergens
The CopperWELL topper is not listed as a hypoallergenic product. However, memory foam is not known to attract or trap allergens, nor is it known to trigger allergies. The copper beads are also antimicrobial, so it could prevent the buildup of bacteria as well.
Company Policies
Let’s take a look at some of the company policies MOLECULE offers on its orders.
Warranty
The CopperWELL topper comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
Sleep Trial
From the day the topper arrives on your doorstep, you’ll have 30 days to make return decisions. This effectively works as a trial period.
Return Policy
MOLECULE offers free shipping on all orders. As for returns, MOLECULE will ask that you not send the topper back, but instead either have it removed by an authorized partner or donate it to a qualifying charity. If you donate the topper, take a picture of your receipt or proof of donation and start the return process with the MOLECULE Support team, and they will give you a full refund.
How Does the MOLECULE CopperWELL Compare to Other Toppers?
Let’s see how the MOLECULE CopperWELL topper stacks up to two other mattress toppers that offer different feels and features.
MOLECULE vs PlushBeds
The CopperWELL topper has a classic, slow-moving memory foam feel to it. But if you’re not the biggest fan of that sinking feeling, latex foam is a good alternative. The PlushBeds latex topper uses 100% latex foam, which has a bouncy feel and springs back into shape immediately, making it easy to move around on.
It can provide pressure relief for side sleepers just like the CopperWELL, but one of the standouts for the PlushBeds topper is that it’s offered in five firmness options. This makes it a good fit for a wider range of needs, so back and stomach sleepers can also find something that they need on this topper.
Latex is also very durable, and you have the option to add a cotton cover for this topper as well. This means that the Plushbeds topper will last a good deal longer than the CopperWELL, which doesn’t have a cover.

Side sleepers | People who want a responsive, easy to move on topper |

MOLECULE vs Brooklyn Bedding
Some memory foam toppers will use a mix of materials, and one such topper includes coils sandwiched between two layers of foam. The Brooklyn Bedding Microcoil mattress topper utilizes coils to add a bit more support and helps the foam contour to your body. This foam is a little bit more responsive than the CopperWELL, but it’s thick and soft so it can still provide the same contouring and pressure relief.
However, the CopperWELL comes to you as just a slab of memory foam. The Microcoil topper comes inside of a proprietary polyester cover called a GLACIOTEX cover. This cover has elastic straps on its corners, which can help make the topper secure on your mattress. This also helps protect the topper, which I expect will last several years with good care.
The CopperWELL topper is thick and slow-moving, and in my experience, will work exceptionally well for side sleeping over back and stomach sleeping. But if you are a strict back sleeper, the Microcoil can offer a bit more support than the CopperWELL.

MOLECULE CopperWELL Topper FAQs
Is a copper-infused mattress topper good?
Copper-infused memory foam has many benefits. The two most important ones that I note in my reviews are its antimicrobial and cooling properties. Copper is generally considered safe to sleep on and it’ll keep your sleep environment hygienic. Plus, it can pull body heat away from you, so you shouldn’t have to worry about overheating on a mattress topper like the CopperWELL topper.
Can you wash a copper mattress topper?
You can’t fully wash copper mattress toppers. Memory foam should not be machine-washed, and machines are not big enough to wash something as big as a topper. However, if your topper has a removable cover, those are typically machine-washable and keep the foam underneath clean.
Unfortunately, you cannot fully clean the CopperWELL mattress topper. It’s not recommended to put memory foam in the washing machine, and the CopperWELL topper does not come with an outer cover. You’ll have to spot clean dirty areas of the topper.
What if I don’t like my MOLECULE CopperWELL mattress topper?
MOLECULE will refund you completely if you find that the topper is not a perfect match for you. However, MOLECULE mentions that in order to qualify for a full refund, you’ll have to donate your topper to an authorized charity, show proof of the donation, and then you’ll receive your refund.
