Hybrid mattresses are all the rage these days because they offer soft comfort and strong support. I’m a big fan of hybrid mattresses and have tested hundreds, but they aren’t always the most affordable options. Shoppers can expect to spend up to $2,000 for a quality hybrid mattress.

That’s why I was excited when I heard about the DreamCloud mattress, a luxury hybrid sold for a value price. To find out if there’s truly a high-quality hybrid mattress that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, read on for my full unbiased DreamCloud mattress review.

I Recommend the DreamCloud For…

  • Dedicated back sleepers. The DreamCloud’s supportive feel should be a great match for folks who sleep on their back, and it should also keep the spine properly aligned.
  • Those who want a bouncy mattress. The coil unit and firmer foams on the DreamCloud make it very responsive. If you’re a combination sleeper, sexually active, or just want a bouncy bed, check out the DreamCloud.
  • Budget shoppers looking for quality. As we’ve implied, the DreamCloud is a great option if you’re looking to save money without sacrificing quality. This bed has a luxury feel at a fraction of the cost.

I Don’t Recommend the DreamCloud For…

  • Heavyweight sleepers. As a heavyweight sleeper myself, I only felt secure on my back. Most sleepers over 300 pounds may not feel comfortable on the DreamCloud. Take a look at our list of the best mattresses for heavy people for some better options.
  • Side sleepers who want pressure relief. The DreamCloud’s firmer, lifted feel at the surface won’t work for side sleepers who need to sink comfortably into their mattress.
  • Fans of a slow-moving mattress. If you like the cushy feeling of memory foam, look elsewhere. The DreamCloud has a springy, hybrid feel.

How Firm is the DreamCloud Mattress?

In my experience, the DreamCloud mattress feels like 7.5/10 on our firmness scale, which is firmer than average. There is a touch of plushness on top of the mattress. Beneath that, the mattress is quite firm. As I’ll discuss below, the DreamCloud mattress might feel firmer or softer depending on your body weight. Very lightweight sleepers might only feel the pillow top, so it could feel softer to them; larger sleepers could sink in and mostly feel the support layers, and it could feel firmer to them.

DreamCloud Mattress Test Performance: My Overall Rating

Our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress in categories such as materials, comfort, cooling, and support. For the DreamCloud, I noticed that this bed is overall well-rounded, though lacking in motion isolation and edge support (perhaps making it a poor choice for couples). The company’s policies also stand out.

DreamCloud Performance in Our Tests

Support – 4/5

The DreamCloud mattress has two thin comfort layers, so when I rested on it, I felt more of the supportive coils underneath. Because of this, the DreamCloud feels more like a traditional innerspring mattress. It’s responsive and bouncy, which makes it easy to move around on top of.

In terms of pressure relief, lightweight sleepers may be able to reap the benefits of this otherwise firm mattress, but other groups should stay away from side-sleeping. I’d recommend this bed for back sleepers above all, with some lighter-to-average-weight sleepers feeling supported on their stomach.

Edge Support – 4/5

The DreamCloud doesn’t have the best edge support. When I sat near the edge of the bed, the sides collapsed quite a bit. I used a tape measure to record how far the edges dipped, and found there was a 2.5” sinkage. That doesn’t seem too bad at first glance, but I still didn’t feel very secure.

A man sits on the edge of the DreamCloud mattress with a tape measure recording 2.5 inches of sinkage

As for lying down near the edges, I felt like I might roll off the side of the mattress whenever I rested near the edge. It’s something to be aware of if you like to spread out when you sleep.

Cooling – 4/5

When I slept on the DreamCloud, I felt quite cool because the mattress features a few temperature-regulating materials. The cashmere-blend cover is breathable and allows air to pass through the top of the mattress, and the gel-infused memory foam helps dissipate body heat. The individually-wrapped coils in the support layer also allow for air to pass through the mattress so that it isn’t one big block of heat.

A heat gun is pointed at the surface of the DreamCloud mattress, displaying a thermal outline that reads 79.6 degrees Fahrenheit

I actually measured the increase in temperature with a thermal camera after lying on the mattress for five minutes. I observed the temperature go from 73 F initially to 81 F. This 8.5 degree increase is a little high, but I didn’t feel it during testing.

Motion Isolation – 3/5

If you share a bed with a partner, you may want to keep motion transfer in mind; a mattress that cuts down on motion transfer between the two partners should ensure each sleeper won’t disturb the other when they move around.

DreamCloud Mattress Feel

The DreamCloud mattress does not isolate this motion particularly well. When I placed a glass of water in the center of the mattress and pushed it into the surrounding area, I saw some disturbance in the water. I also rested on one side of the mattress while my colleague moved around on the other side. I felt the motion transfer over to my side of the mattress, so if you’re shopping for one of the best mattresses for couples, you may want to look elsewhere.

Response – 4.5/5

Hybrid beds are often known for their response, and the DreamCloud is no different. It has a bouncy and responsive feel, thanks to the strong coils. During testing, I noticed the springy surface right away.

This makes it easy for sleepers to move around on top of the mattress and switch sleeping positions. Combination sleepers or folks who are sexually active might benefit from this.

Durability – 4/5

Because the DreamCloud mattress contains durable and high-quality materials, it shouldn’t sag as the years go on. I expect this bed to last between six and eight years

The industry standard is anywhere from seven to 10 years, so it’s a fairly decent longevity. But don’t forget you’ve got a lifetime warranty to back it up — more on that below.

DreamCloud Policy Scores

Trial – 5/5

The DreamCloud offers a 365-day trial, nearly quadruple the industry standard of 100 nights. This means you get an entire year to decide whether or not you want to commit to the DreamCloud mattress.

If you realize that the DreamCloud is not the best fit, you can return the mattress within the 365-day trial period. Customers who are not 100% satisfied will receive a full refund.

Warranty – 5/5

The DreamCloud mattress comes with the security of a lifetime warranty. Most brands only offer a 10-year limited warranty for their mattresses, so we’d say this is pretty generous.

What does it entail, though? If your mattress gets damaged from normal use, the company will replace or repair it for free, based on how long you’ve had it. Just be aware you may be initially charged $50 for transportation or removal fees, but these are usually reimbursed after the warranty has been processed.

DreamCloud – Other Factors To Consider

Believe it or not, there’s still more features you might’ve forgotten about when it comes to buying a mattress. Here’s some other things to consider before pulling the trigger on a new DreamCloud mattress.

Off-gassing

When opening up a bed-in-a-box mattress, it is normal to notice a slight chemical smell. In the biz, we call this mattress off-gassing, and we did notice this with the DreamCloud mattress. However, this smell went away after we let the DreamCloud mattress air out for 48 hours

Noise

I didn’t hear any squeaking sounds when I moved around on top of the DreamCloud mattress. The individually-wrapped coils are the only things that could potentially make noise, so it’s possible the mattress could squeak after a few years of use.

Sex

Couples looking for a good mattress for sex usually want to pick something bouncy and responsive; this will make it easier for them to move around and reposition on the mattress. The DreamCloud mattress fits the bill for sure, and sexual partners should find it to be a great match.

Mattress Height

The DreamCloud is about 12” tall. This is fairly average for the mattress industry. If you’re looking for a loftier bed, consider upgrading to the DreamCloud Premier (13”) or the DreamCloud Premier Rest (14”).

Sleeping Position and Weight

The DreamCloud is best suited to back sleeping, but it’s not the best option for any side sleepers. When it comes to lightweight sleepers, they may be able to feel comfortable on their stomach, because of the bed’s firmness. Overall, it’s not a great match for most heavyweight people, either. If you weigh more than 230 lb, you may need a mattress that offers more pressure relief. Take a look at our list of the best mattresses for heavy people for some options.

“On the DreamCloud, I felt best whenever I slept on my back. Because this mattress has a firmer feel, it offers plenty of lumbar support. My hips sank into the top layer slightly, but my back stayed in a neutral alignment.” – Marten

DreamCloud Construction

What’s inside the DreamCloud? Let’s take a closer look.

Cover

On top, the DreamCloud features a smooth, comfy cashmere-blend cover. It’s breathable and soft to the touch. It’s even tufted and quilted with some foam to give the top of the mattress a bit of that pillow top look and feel.

Comfort Layers

First up are two layers of quilted memory foam. The first is a gel memory foam for cooling, and the second is firmer for more supportive cushioning. A second layer of gel memory foam bolsters these two comfort layers.

A side shot of the DreamCloud mattress

In between the comfort and the support layers is a layer of Dynamic Transitional Foam. This foam also helps to ensure proper spinal alignment.

Support Layer

The bulk of the mattress’ support comes from the coil unit. This layer features individually-wrapped coils that respond to movements at the surface. Air also flows through them to contribute to the bed’s cooling capability.

Everything sits on top of a sturdy foundational foam layer.

How to Try and Buy the DreamCloud Mattress

The easiest way to buy the DreamCloud mattress is to order directly from their site. (However, DreamCloud does partner with some stores if you want to see the bed in-person before you buy.) But if you order online, the bed comes compressed in a box for streamlined delivery and set-up.  Some customers did say that it was difficult to move the mattress and set it up in their bedroom. The good news is that you have the option to purchase Premium In-Home Setup for about $200.

You can take advantage of the generous 365-night trial to find out if the mattress will work for you. If the answer is “no,” DreamCloud offers free returns. Don’t forget to be on the lookout for sales or use our DreamCloud coupons to ensure you get the best deal.

DreamCloud vs DreamCloud Premier

The DreamCloud Premier is a more luxurious mattress than the baseline model, but both beds are hybrid mattresses. The Premier mattress has a softer feel and more pressure relief, making it a better choice for most side sleepers. The original DreamCloud’s firmer profile is better suited to back and some stomach sleepers.

A man side sleeps on the DreamCloud Premier Rest

When it comes to performance, the beds are actually pretty similar. Where the Premier stands out is motion isolation, making it a better option for couples. It may simply come down to price. As the Premier is the upgraded model, it comes at a higher price point.

DreamCloud vs Saatva Classic

The DreamCloud and Saatva Classic mattress are somewhat similar in that they feature coils in their designs and some plusher layers right on top. However, the DreamCloud mattress has one set of individually-wrapped coils, while the Saatva features two sets of coils. The Saatva mattress is also available in multiple firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm. If you want more options, the Saatva might be the best choice.

man sleeping on his back on the Saatva mattress

Performance-wise, the Saatva Classic stuns in support. Both are pretty bouncy, though. And each mattress touts luxury features, but the Saatva Classic has the pricing of a luxury bed. If budget is your main concern, stick to the DreamCloud.

DreamCloud vs WinkBed

Another popular hybrid mattress in the online market is the WinkBed. Both the WinkBed and DreamCloud feature coils and a pillow top surface. The DreamCloud only comes in one firmness, and it feels pretty firm, but the WinkBed is available in Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer. (There’s even a WinkBed Plus model designed specifically for heavyweight sleepers). The Luxury Firm option of the WinkBed feels a bit softer than the DreamCloud.

WinkBeds Mattress - Back Sleeping

The WinkBed earned perfect scores for support and strong edges, so it outdoes the DreamCloud there. Both beds have plenty of bounce and sleep relatively cool. The main difference is price: the WinkBed will run you over $1,000 for a queen, and a same size DreamCloud will only cost a little over $800—and that’s with coupons for both. If you’re a back or stomach sleeper on a budget, consider picking DreamCloud over WinkBed.

DreamCloud Mattress FAQs

Is DreamCloud a good mattress?

The DreamCloud is a good mattress, but it is a better fit for certain types of sleepers. Hot sleepers, back sleepers and fans of responsive mattresses should like the DreamCloud. Heavyweight people may not get the lumbar support they need, however.

Do you need a box spring with the DreamCloud mattress?

The DreamCloud mattress does not require a box spring.

Does DreamCloud offer a trial period?

Yes. DreamCloud offers a year-long trial (365 days). If you end up disliking the mattress, you can return it for a full refund.

Can you flip a DreamCloud mattress?

No, the DreamCloud mattress does not have a flippable construction. If you try to flip it, you risk not only compromising the mattress’ integrity but sleeping on the uncomfortable support layers, rather than the comfort layers on top.
