Well, we’ve spent a lot of time with both mattresses and discovered their major differences and hidden features. Read on to find out who wins in the battle of Saatva vs WinkBed.

Saatva vs WinkBed Mattress Overview

To go into a little more detail, the Saatva mattress is an innerspring mattress with a pillow top. It comes in two heights, 11.5″ and 14.5″ and three firmness: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm and Firm. The WinkBed mattress comes in one height, but four firmnesses: Softer, Luxury Firmer, Firmer, and Plus.

To really compare these two brands, we decided to pit the Saatva Luxury Firm mattress against the WinkBed Luxury Firm mattress. They are similar mattresses but a better match for different types of sleepers.

Who Should Choose the Saatva? Who Should Choose the WinkBed?
Shoppers who want multiple height choices Larger sleepers who require a bit more support
Light- and medium-weight back sleepers who don’t require as much lumbar support Hot sleepers who worry about overheating at night
Side sleepers who want to feel better pressure relief on their shoulders and hips

The Saatva and WinkBed mattresses are both available in multiple firmness options – again, this comparison deals with the Luxury Firm models for both. The Saatva is available in two heights, but the WinkBed mattress only comes in one.
The Saatva and WinkBed are two of the best innerspring mattresses currently available. The WinkBed mattress is more affordable than the Saatva mattress.
The Saatva and WinkBed are two of the best pillow top mattresses on the market. They feature slightly different materials in their construction, which we will discuss below.
In our experience, the Saatva and WinkBed Luxury Firm mattresses have essentially the same firmness.

Firmness and Feel Differences

Now, let’s hop onto the Saatva and WinkBed mattresses and discuss how firm they are and what they feel like. We will also get into how these mattresses will feel for average weight, heavyweight, and lightweight sleepers.

How Firm Are the Saatva And WinkBed Mattresses?

The Saatva and WinkBed mattresses both felt like a 7/10 to us and were just a bit firmer-than-average. They both feature firmer, more supportive coils in their base layer and are plush pillow-top mattresses above that. Again, shoppers who want a softer or firmer mattress can also choose one of Saatva or WinkBed other firmness options.

Sleeping on the Saatva and WinkBed Mattresses

We feel pretty similar when we are sleeping on both mattresses, but let’s go into a bit more detail about how each mattress feels in all three sleeping positions:

When we are back sleeping on the Saatva, the mattress is providing us with an excellent balance of comfort and support. Our hips sink into the pillow top, while the two sets of coils provide support and a bit of contouring. Side sleeping on the mattress, we are feeling some pressure on our shoulders and hips, so we could use a bit more plushness on top of the mattress. When we are stomach sleeping, the mattress is providing us with decent support under our hips, but primary stomach sleepers will probably need a firmer mattress overall.

Saatva Mattress - Back Sleeping

Moving to the WinkBed mattress, we are also feeling comfortable and supported while we are back sleeping. That being said, we are feeling some more lumbar support because WinkBed features some more advanced zoning. Side sleeping, we are feeling better pressure relief than we felt on the Saatva mattress as the pillow top is just a tad plusher. Stomach sleeping, we are getting enough support overall, but we could use some more support under our hips.

What Do the Saatva and WinkBed Mattresses Feel Like?

The Saatva and WinkBed mattresses are very similar in terms of construction, so it is no surprise that they feel similar too! They both feature the bounce and support one finds with an innerspring mattress. Their pillow tops also add some soft plushness to the top of each mattress, though the WinkBed is just slightly plusher.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs

Average weight back sleepers should feel like the Saatva and WinkBed mattresses are both a good fit for them. Their hips will sink in, while they are supported everywhere else, keeping them in neutral alignment. Side sleeping, the majority of average weight people should feel better pressure relief on the WinkBed because it is plusher. Stomach sleeping, average weight people who are closer to 130 lbs should get enough support on each mattress.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs

Heavyweight back sleepers should feel well supported on both mattresses, but they should feel even better lumbar support on the WinkBed. If they are over 300 lbs, they might want to opt for the Saatva HD and WinkBed PLUS, mattresses made specifically with larger people in mind.

Heavyweight side sleepers might feel some more pressure on their shoulders and hips when they are lying on both mattresses. At the same time, their heavier weight might compress the microcoils on both mattresses and ease up some of the pressure in those areas.

Stomach sleeping, larger people will undoubtedly need a mattress that is firmer and more supportive than the Saatva and WinkBed. Large stomach sleepers require even more support under their hips because of their added weight, and the Saatva and WinkBed might not provide enough.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs

Lightweight sleepers should feel the Saatva and WinkBed are good for all three sleeping positions. People should be able to switch to any position and feel the right amount of comfort and support, so this is a good mattress for combination sleepers.

Mattress Construction Differences

So, what exactly makes up the Saatva and WinkBeds mattresses? Let’s look inside the construction of both mattresses and really see what makes them tick.

Saatva

Layer Description
Cover The Saatva features a soft cover that is made of organic cotton – this material is very breathable and should allow for the top of the mattress to breathe.
Comfort Layer #1 With the Saatva, the organic cotton cover is tufted and quilted with foam to create their Euro pillow top. Whatever firmness a shopper chooses will determine exactly how plush the pillow top is.
Comfort Layer # 2 Below that, there is a layer of high-quality memory foam that is designed to add more pressure relief to the top of the mattress and also provide extra lumbar support.
Support Layer The Saatva features microcoils over support coils in its base layer. The coils also include Lumbar Zone technology which makes them firmer and more supportive toward the center of the mattress.

WinkBed

Layer Description
Cover The WinkBed features a cover made of Tencel fabric – this material is designed to promote airflow and cooling for the top of the WinkBed.
Comfort Layer #1 The WinkBed’s cover is also tufted with foam, specifically Hypersoft Foam and then premium gel foam to create a pillow top.
Support Layer #1 The WinkBed boasts a similar setup with both microcoils and support coils. They feature a more advanced zoning system that provides the mattress with a whopping seven zones for just the right amount of support and comfort in different areas.

Support Layer #2 There is also a Lumbar Layer of high-density foam that provides sleepers with even more lumbar support.

Mattress Height

The Saatva comes in two heights, 11.5″ and 14.5″, and the WinkBed comes in one, 14″.

Saatva And WinkBed Performance Differences

We didn’t just stop with sleeping on the Saatva and WinkBed mattresses – we also tested them out for motion transfer, edge support, and durability. For more information on how these mattresses stack up to other brands in terms of performance, make sure to check out our mattress comparisons page for other Saatva and WinkBed comparisons like Saatva vs Loom and Leaf and WinkBed vs DreamCloud.

Sleeping Hot Or Cold

Given that these are both innerspring mattresses with pillow tops, they are very similar in terms of breathability. The double sets of coils on both mattresses allow for a great deal of airflow, so the bottom of the mattress won’t trap heat. Also, they both feature covers that promote airflow through the top of the mattress.

That being said, the WinkBed felt cooler when we slept on it. This could be because of its Tencel cover, which is great with cooling and moisture-wicking. Also, the top foam layers feature gel infusions that might also be providing that extra cooling. We didn’t sleep hot on the Saatva mattress, but we did sleeper cooler on the WinkBed mattress.

Motion Transfer

Innerspring mattresses aren’t always the best at handling motion transfer because they are bouncier and don’t really absorb motion the way memory foam is known to do. However, the Saatva and WinkBed both feature soft foam on top, and they do cut down on some motion transfer.

Saatva Mattress - Motion Transfer

Between the two, we saw better motion isolation on the WinkBed mattress, possibly because the top layer is plusher than the Saatva’s. Because of this, the WinkBed could be the best mattress for couples, as sleep partners will feel less of each other’s movements during the night.

Edge Support

Because the Saatva and WinkBed both feature two sets of coils and are very supportive mattresses, we feel even edge support on both mattresses. We feel very secure when we are sitting and lying down near the edge of both mattresses.

Durability

The Saatva and WinkBed mattresses are both durable innerspring mattresses and, because of that, they should last for at least between seven and 10 years. However, between the two mattresses, the WinkBed might have some more life to it, as it is a more substantial mattress overall. Either way, these are both extremely sound investments!

Off-gassing

The Saatva and WinkBed mattresses both come with White Glove Delivery, meaning they will be delivered to your house, and two movers will set it up in the bedroom. Because they don’t come compressed into a roll, there is no real off-gassing to speak of.

Noise

When sleepers are moving around at night, they don’t want their mattress to squeak or creak! When we moved around on the Saatva and WinkBed, we did not hear any real groaning from inside the mattress. We will note that innerspring mattresses might start to make more noise after they have been used for a number of years.

Sex

The Saatva and WinkBed should be good mattresses for sex because they are bouncy and make it easy for sexual partners to move around. Couples shouldn’t feel like they are trapped in either mattress and should experience real ease of movement.

Warranty Info

The Saatva comes with a 180-night trial and a 15-year warranty, while the WinkBed comes with a 120-night trial, and a lifetime warranty.
