Nectar vs Nectar Premier: Similarities and Differences
The Nectar and Nectar Premier mattresses have a lot in common, but it’s important to examine the differences too. Check our chart below for the info!
Similarities | Differences |
Both mattresses are swaddled in a cooling, moisture-wicking cover. | The Nectar Original mattress is 12” tall, while the Nectar Premier is 13” tall. |
They’re both backed by forever warranties and come with a 365-night sleep trial period. | The Nectar Original mattress has a medium-firm feel, while the Nectar Premier feels a bit softer. |
Both mattresses have a thick support layer made out of high-density foam. | The Nectar Original has a lower price point. |
Both mattresses isolate motion well, making them good choices for couples. | The Nectar Premier has a thicker comfort layer, making it more pressure-relieving than the Nectar Original. |
Firmness and Feel Differences
Mattress Clarity’s firmness scale ranges from 1-10, with 6.5/10 representing medium-firm. The Original Nectar mattress has a classic 6.5/10 rating, which also happens to be the industry standard. The Nectar Premier feels slightly softer, coming in at 6/10.
Sleeping On the Nectar and Nectar Premier Mattresses
Because both mattresses have a similar firmness level, they both work well for most back and side sleepers. However, the medium to soft firmness levels found in these mattresses won’t give the proper support for most stomach sleepers. If you fall in this category, check out our list of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
What Do The Nectar And Nectar Premier Mattresses Feel Like?
Both mattresses have a classic slow-moving memory foam feel. You’ll gently sink into the top layers and feel some body contouring, but you shouldn’t have issues moving around on top of this bed. Unlike many memory foam mattresses, these beds won’t make you feel “trapped” inside the layers.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
The differences between these two mattresses are subtle, but still important. If you’re an average-weight sleeper who weighs between 130 lbs and 170 lbs, you may prefer the Nectar Premier because it’s slightly softer. For people in this weight range, the Premier offers a bit more pressure relief while side sleeping and plenty of lumbar support when back sleeping.
Folks who weigh between 170 lbs and 230 lbs will probably prefer the Nectar Original mattress. The Original model feels slightly firmer, so it offers the optimal amount of support that heavier people need.
We don’t recommend either mattress for average weight stomach sleepers. In this sleeping position, people need particularly firm beds in order to keep their hips in the proper alignment. If you were to rest on your stomach on a soft mattress, you would likely develop lower back pain.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs
Generally speaking, neither mattress is a great choice for heavier people. It’s possible that back sleepers who weigh around 230 lbs could get the right amount of comfort and support on the Nectar Original mattress, but they would probably have a better experience on an innerspring mattress.
People who weigh more than 300 lbs will need a mattress that feels particularly firm, such as one of the best mattresses for heavy people.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs
On both mattresses, lightweight sleepers should feel comfortable in all three sleeping positions. Smaller folks won’t compress the memory foam layers too much, so they should feel a good balance of comfort and support – no matter how they sleep.
Mattress Construction Differences
Both beds contain Nectar’s proprietary materials, but these two beds aren’t identical. To really understand the difference between the two, take a look at our construction charts below.
Nectar Original
Layer | Description |
Cover | The Nectar mattress has a cover made out of polyethylene, a breathable material that feels cool-to-the-touch. |
Comfort Layer #1 | First, you’ll find a 1” layer of pressure-relieving memory foam. This material contours to the body and keep sleepers cradled. |
Comfort Layer # 2 | The second comfort layer consists of 3” of responsive foam. This material has a higher density than the foam above it, which gives the mattress a bit more support and prevents sleepers from “bottoming out.” |
Support Layer | At the very bottom sits an 8” layer of high-density base foam. This is what gives the mattress its support and durability. |
Take a look at our Nectar mattress review to learn more.
Nectar Premier
Layer | Description |
Cover | The Nectar Premier has a quilted cooling cover that helps wick away heat. |
Comfort Layer #1 | The Nectar Premier has a thicker, 2” comfort layer made with pressure-relieving memory foam. |
Comfort Layer # 2 | Similar to the Nectar Original, beneath the top comfort layer is a 3” transition layer made out of soft conventional foam. |
Support Layer #1 | The Nectar Premier also has the same 8″ high-density foam support layer as the Original Nectar mattress. |

Nectar And Nectar Premier Performance Differences
We can’t stop there! Take a look at the performance differences between these two mattresses.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Both mattresses contain cooling elements in the form of a moisture-wicking cover, which dissipates body heat and keeps sleepers cool. Prior iterations of the Nectar Original and Nectar Premier featured gel-infused memory foam and phase change materials for temperature regulation. We think these earlier models were more cooling overall. However, Nectar’s new cover does a solid job of dissipating heat.
Motion Transfer
Because they have similar constructions, both mattresses isolate motion well. If you share a bed with a partner and worry about waking up from their movements in the night, both mattresses are great options. In fact, they’re some of the best mattresses for couples!
Edge Support
Even though both mattresses have impressive edge support, the Nectar Premier has a slight advantage thanks to its thicker transition layer. When you sit or rest along the side of the Nectar Premier, you should feel stable and secure.
Durability
The average lifespan of a mattress ranges from 5-7 years, but we expect both mattresses to last a bit longer. The Nectar Original should last about seven years, while the Nectar Premier should last between seven years and a decade.
Off-Gassing
Off-gassing, or the emission of a faint chemical odor, is common whenever you unbox an online mattress. It happened with both the Nectar and Nectar Premier, but after 48 hours, the smells completely faded away.
Noise
When we tested these mattresses, we didn’t hear any noise. And because they both contain only foam, they won’t squeak as the years go on.
Sex
If you’re looking for one of the best mattresses for sex, you probably want to find another bed. Both mattresses have a slow-moving feel, which can make it difficult for couples to quickly switch positions. If this is particularly important to you, opt for one of the Nectar Hybrid mattresses.
Company Policies
Before you make your final purchasing decision, make sure you understand the company policies. Here’s what you can expect if you buy from Nectar.
Warranty Info
Nectar mattresses are backed by forever warranties.
Sleep Trial
Nectar offers 365-night sleep trial periods for all of their mattresses.
Return Policy
If you’re not a fan of your Nectar mattress, you can return it and receive a full refund – as long as it’s within the first year.

FAQs
Still wondering about these two mattresses? Check out our FAQ section below.
Which mattress is better, Nectar or Nectar Premier?
Both mattresses have great things to offer, but it ultimately boils down to your personal preferences. The Original Nectar mattress has a lower price point, but it doesn’t dissipate heat as well as the Nectar Premier. If you want a luxury mattress that sleeps cool at night and offers more pressure relief, the Nectar Premier is the way to go.
How long will the Nectar and Nectar Premier mattresses last?
Both mattresses should last at least seven years, but we expect the Nectar Premier to last about a decade.
Can you flip the Nectar and Nectar Premier mattresses?
No, you cannot flip any Nectar mattress. These beds are designed with support layers on the bottom and comfort layers on top. If you flipped them, they wouldn’t feel comfy.
