What Do the Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen Sheets Feel Like?

The way sheets feel really comes down to two things: the materials used and the weave style.

There are a number of weave styles used for sheets, but two of the most common weave styles are sateen and percale, which you can read more about in our percale vs sateen article. But the main difference here is that sheets with the sateen weave, like these from Peacock Alley, feel smoother and more satin-like than percale sheets.

Overall, the Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen sheets are lightweight and not too thick, so they’re perfect for those who want the familiar feel of cotton.

Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen Sheets Materials

Peacock Alley uses 100% cotton in its Soprano Sateen sheets. The cotton used is called “long-staple cotton.” This type of cotton means that the cotton fibers were made into long, strong threads that makes the fabric feel softer and helps it last longer.

The Soprano Sateen sheets have a thread count of 420. Thread count is important to note for sheets, but it’s not an indicator of quality like marketing might have you believe. Because the thread count is just the number of threads in a square inch of fabric, it impacts the overall feeling of the sheets and how breathable they are. With a thread count of 420, these sheets feel very soft, and are fairly breathable.

An image of a man sleeping on his side while using the Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen shees.

Even though they are lightweight sheets, the thread count lets them retain just a bit more heat than sheets with lower thread counts. This makes them breathable enough for warm months, but they should still feel cozy during cold months.

The fitted sheet has pockets that are fitted with a 17” gusset, and Peacock Alley mentions these sheets can fit mattresses up to 21” tall. This means that those with more average mattress heights–around 10” to 12” tall–might need to do some extra tucking in order to get the fitted sheet to fit tightly. But those with taller beds, or have added height thanks to a mattress topper, should be able to get a secure fit with the fitted sheet.

What to Consider Before Buying

Let’s go over a few more key considerations you should keep in mind while shopping for new sheets.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

I’m someone who has kicked sheets off the bed during the night because of how hot I was, so having a set of sheets that sleep cool is super important to me.I’d say the Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen sheets are a good year-round pick.

When I tested these sheets, it was still warm in Texas, so despite their lightweight feel, they did get a little cozy. I typically sleep with two layers: a top sheet and a thin blanket. This usually works really well with my bamboo sheets but with the Soprano Sateen sheets, that extra blanket layer made things a bit toasty.

When I used the sheet just by itself, it was really great, so these shouldn’t overheat too much in warmer climates. If you’re constantly burning up and need a super low AC setting and the ceiling fan on, you might want to look at my list of the best cooling sheets.

I think you’ll be safe to layer up during cold months with these sheets, especially if you live in cooler climates. But exceptionally hot sleepers might do OK with just the top sheet in cold months.

Care Instructions

The Soprano Sateen sheets are fully machine-washable. Here are the care instructions that Peacock Alley provides:

  • Wash with cold water on a gentle cycle
  • Do not mix with colors
  • Do not use bleach or fabric softener
  • Tumble dry on low heat

You can iron with low heat as needed, and Peacock Alley also mentions that professional cleaning is an option.

Allergies

Cotton is not known to trap allergens in your sleep environment, so while these sheets are not listed as hypoallergenic, they should be a safe bet for those with sensitive allergies. Plus, these sheets are machine-washable, which helps eliminate dirt, dust, and other allergy triggers.

Company Policies

Let’s take a look at what’s included in each set and the company policies Peacock Alley offers.

Set Includes

I received a queen-size set of the Soprano Sateen sheets. Here’s what the set included:

Peacock Alley offers this sheet set in seven colors: white, ivory, linen, platinum, barely blue, pewter, and blue.

You’ll have 30 days from the delivery date to make return or exchange decisions on these sheets. It’s worth noting, however, that there are some stipulations around what can be returned versus what can be exchanged.

You have the option to monogram your sheets, but monogramed sheets are ineligible for returns. Some sheets that have been damaged as a result of factory or manufacturing error (so not intentional damage) or sheets that have been washed may only be eligible for exchanges.

How Do the Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen Sheets Compare To Other Sheets?

Want to venture outside of standard cotton sheets? Let’s see how the Peacock Alley sheets stand up to a set of bamboo sheets from Cozy Earth and a linen set of sheets from Baloo.

Peacock Alley vs Cozy Earth

Sheets can be made out of many different materials these days, and bamboo is a popular option. Some of the most popular bamboo sheets come from Cozy Earth. If you’ve never used a set of bamboo sheets, they’re going to feel much different than a cotton set like the Peacock Alley sheets.

Cozy-Earth-Bamboo-Sheets-Holding

Bamboo sheets have a soft, slick, almost silk-like feeling to them. For some, like myself, this is preferable to the slightly crisp feeling of cotton sheets. While both sheet sets are made with the sateen weave, the materials just do not feel the same. But if you’re someone who prefers the slight crisp feel of a cotton sheet set, then opt for Peacock Alley. Some have found that bamboo sheets feel too slippery in comparison.

If you live in a warm climate or get hot quickly, bamboo sheets may work better for you. While both bamboo and cotton are breathable materials, bamboo has the added benefit of being moisture-wicking. This means that if you choose the Cozy Earth sheets (or any bamboo sheet set for that matter), you shouldn’t feel hot and sweaty.

Peacock Alley vs Baloo

Linen sheets are the oldest style of sheets, and they’re made from the fibers of flax stalks. Flax is another material that, when made into fabric, is super breathable and moisture-wicking. This gives  it an added cooling benefit over cotton. Baloo is a popular online brand that makes linen sheets.

A hand brushes across the top of the Baloo Linen sheets to show off its texture.

When it comes to linen vs cotton sheets, the main difference is the way they feel. Cotton sheets have a slight crisp feeling to them, but overall the texture is smooth and soft. Linen sheets, on the other hand, have a slight, coarse (but not scratchy) texture. So if you’ve never used linen sheets and prefer something smooth, go with the Peacock Alley sheets.

However, the Peacock Alley sheets retain more heat than the Baloo Linen sheets. This makes the Baloo sheets a better choice for hot sleepers out there. Plus, as I mentioned above, they’re moisture-wicking, so you also won’t feel sweaty underneath the Baloo sheets. But if you live in a cooler climate, or just feel cold most of the time, go for the Peacock Alley sheets.

Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen Sheets FAQs

Which wrinkles more, percale or sateen?

Percale sheets are more prone to wrinkling than sateen sheets. This is because the percale weave leaves sheets feeling very crisp. You could fold a percale weave sheet and still see the crease after unfolding it.

Peacock Alley makes a number of sheets with different weave styles, so if you want something that doesn’t look creased or super wrinkly on the bed, the Soprano Sateen sheets are a good choice.

How long should the Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen Sheets last?

These sheets should last three to five years, thanks to the durable long-staple cotton.

What if I don’t like my Peacock Alley Soprano Sateen sheets?

You can always issue a return or an exchange, so long as you do so within 30 days of receiving the sheets. It’s worth noting that Peacock Alley does have certain stipulations about what can be returned for a full refund, or what might only be available for an exchange. So be sure to read through Peacock Alley’s “Returns & Exchanges” page thoroughly before starting the process.
