Anyone wanting color or pattern variety | Shoppers on a budget |
What Do the Brooklinen Flannel Sheets Feel Like?
Brooklinen uses something called brushed cotton, hence the name brushed flannel, for its flannel sheets. This gives the sheets a soft, almost fuzzy texture to them. These are flannels, so they’re going to be a bit thicker than your standard cotton or bamboo sheets.
30-60 Min Nap
I’ll be honest – when it came time to test out the Brooklinen Flannels, I was a little worried. I am a textbook hot sleeper, and flannels are more commonly intended for cold weather. Living in Texas, I don’t get to see cold weather except for about December through the end of February.
When I first tested these sheets out, it was still a bit chilly outside. So, I knew they were going to feel comfortable. And they were! I loved how soft and slightly fuzzy the sheets felt.
And when I climbed into bed, I only needed the top sheet. It’s much thicker than the bamboo sheets I use on a regular basis. After a few minutes, I was expecting to kick them off, but I’m happy to say that I kept the sheets on the whole time I napped.
However, because I do live in Texas, and we start to see temperatures over 90 degrees by May and over 100 over the summer, I know these aren’t going to work out year-round for me.
RELATED: Best Cooling Sheets
Cotton is naturally breathable, so in those colder days when I tested the sheets, they felt comfortable. But breathability alone won’t keep me cool during the hot summer months. Overall, they felt comfortable, but would be very situational for me.
Brooklinen Flannel Sheets Materials
The Brooklinen Flannel Core Sheet set uses 100% brushed cotton. Brushing is a technique where the cotton fibers are brushed to create a thicker yarn, and it gives the cotton a fuzzy look and feel.
The cotton has been OEKO-Tex certified, meaning that it meets rigorous standards and is verified to be free of harmful chemicals in the production process.

What to Consider Before Buying
What are some other considerations you should keep in mind before clicking “check out?” Let’s talk about them.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Though cotton is breathable, these sheets are going to keep you fairly cozy while you use them. If you live in a warm climate like I do, they may only help out during the cold months.
And if you’re someone who worries about staying dry, there’s nothing in these sheets that will wick away moisture to keep the night sweats off you.
However, if you tend to get cold fairly quickly, or just live in a climate where the cold sticks around much longer, these are a good option.
Care Instructions
The Brooklinen Flannel Sheet set can be machine-washed. Here’s what Brooklinen recommends:
- Machine-wash separately on a cold water cycle with a detergent of your choice, preferably mild
- Tumble dry on low heat
- You have the option to iron with low heat as well
Brooklinen also mentions that the first few wash cycles may lead to a large amount of lint build up in your dryer. This is normal for fuzzy, flannel sheets. The amount of lint will lessen over time.
Allergies
Though this isn’t listed as a hypoallergenic product, cotton doesn’t tend to trap allergens in your sleep environment. And while this is flannel, and a bit more fuzzy than your normal cotton sheets, it’s not so fuzzy that it’ll trap dirt and dust mites or feel scratchy on sensitive skin.
Company Policies
So, what happens if you decide to click “check out” on this set of sheets? Let’s go over some company policies that Brooklinen has for customers.
Set Includes
Brooklinen sells all its sheet sets in either a “hardcore” or “core” bundle. For this review, I received the queen-size Flannel Core Sheet set. Here’s what it included:
- A flat sheet
- A fitted sheet
- Two pillowcases
The main difference between the core set and a hardcore set is that in the hardcore set, you have an additional two pillowcases and a duvet cover.
Brooklinen sells the Flannel Core Sheet Set in all bed sizes except a twin XL. Currently, Brooklinen offers the Flannel Core Sheet set in four plaid design options.
Return Policy
Brooklinen offers free shipping on all orders, returns, and exchanges on orders within the continental US. If you end up returning these sheets, you’ll be offered a full refund.
Common Brooklinen Flannel Sheets Complaints
Many people have praised the design options and the exceptional cozy feeling that the Brooklinen Flannel Core Sheet set offers. However, as I looked through customer reviews, there was one resounding complaint: pilling.
The cotton has been brushed in these flannels, and because of that, the sheets have a slight fuzzy texture to them. This can lead to pilling due to washing or just general use.
Be sure to read our full article on what is pilling for how to prevent it from happening, or how to handle it when it does happen.
How Do the Brooklinen Flannel Sheets Compare To Other Sheets?
Flannels aren’t for everyone, so if you’re not sure these are these sheets for you, let’s compare the Brooklinen Flannel sheets to two, more traditional, sheet sets from Parachute and Puffy.
Brooklinen vs Parachute
If you love the traditional feel of cotton sheets, and want to splurge on the softer Egyptian cotton, the Parachute Percale sheets are a good option. The percale weave is one of two weave styles for cotton sheets, and it leaves the sheets feeling crisp like a freshly pressed shirt.
This gives the sheets a good amount of durability and resistance to pilling. But if you love a softer, more blanket-like feel to your sheets, the Brooklinen Flannel sheets are the way to go.

Brooklinen vs Puffy
One other popular material for sheets is bamboo, and Puffy makes some of the best bamboo sheets on the market. These sheets utilize the other weave style for sheets: the sateen weave. This gives the Puffy sheets a buttery, ultrasoft, almost satin-like feel.
The Puffy sheets are also a better choice for hot sleepers, thanks to bamboo’s natural breathability and moisture-wicking properties. However, if you’re looking for soft, cozy, and warm sheets, opt for the Brooklinen Flannel sheets. These have a more fuzzy, blanket-like feel to them, which is great for those who get cold quickly.

FAQs
Still got questions about Brooklinen and its sheet sets? I’ve collected some of the most frequently asked questions about the Internet’s favorite sheets below!
What‘s the difference between the Luxe and Classic Core sheets?
Both are made with 100% long-staple cotton, but the two vary with thread count and weave styles. The Luxe Core Sheet Set is made from cotton sateen material that feels very smooth and soft and has a 480 thread count. The Classic Core Sheet set features the classic percale weave, which makes sheets feel very crisp and lightweight. This has a lower thread count of 270, which makes it very breathable.
What’s a good thread count for flannel sheets?
Flannel sheets do not feature a thread count. This is because thread count refers to the number of threads in a square inch of fabric. And because most flannel sheets have thicker threads, that number will always be very low.
Instead, flannels are measured by their weight, with grams per square meter (GSM). It is similar to thread count in that it tells you how breathable a set of sheets will be.
The Brooklinen Flannel sheets have a GSM of 140, which is about average for flannel sheets, if not a bit lower. This is because Brooklinen’s flannels are intended to be used year-round.
How long will the Brooklinen Flannel sheets last?
Brooklinen offers a 1-year warranty on all its sheets. Cotton is fairly durable, and with good care, these sheets should last you around two years.
