Henrie Pillow Firmness and Feel
Let’s cover some important performance considerations for the Henrie pillow.
How Firm is the Henrie Pillow?
The Henrie pillow comes to you stuffed with all the fill you need. And because of this, right out of the box, it can be quite firm. But being fully adjustable, you can take out the fill and loosen it up to make it feel much more plush.
Sleeping on the Henrie Pillow
When it comes to picking a pillow, your sleeping position plays a big role. Back sleepers need a medium height that keeps your chin in alignment with your chest. You don’t want your head going too far forward or backwards.
Side sleepers need a tall pillow to make sure their head doesn’t dip too low. Stomach sleepers require a very low pillow to avoid craning their neck which can cause pain later on.
As a side sleeper, I found that the Henrie pillow was great for me without needing to take out any fluff. But I think back and stomach sleepers will find the full pillow too tall and firm.
For back sleepers, I think taking out a couple handfuls of fill will make this pillow great for you, while stomach sleepers may need to take out about half of the fill to get a low enough height.
What Does the Henrie Pillow Feel Like?
Because the Henrie pillow is full of chopped memory foam, it has that classic, slow-moving quality to it. You’ll sink into the pillow, but still get some plush comfort from the kapok fibers.
Kapok fibers come from kapok trees! The fiber grows in pods that grow from the tree. And you’ll also get a decent amount of support based on the amount of fill you have in the pillow.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs
Overall, I think this pillow will do wonders for average weight sleepers of any sleeping position. So long as you adjust the loft to your preferred sleeping position, you’ll be able to find support and comfort with this pillow.
Average weight side sleepers may find the pillow tall enough out of the box, but if you have narrow shoulders, removing some of the fill would be a good idea. Back and stomach sleepers will want to remove a considerable amount of the fill to get the proper loft for these positions.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lb
Heavyweight side and back sleepers may want to keep the pillow closer to fully stuffed to get the full amount of support. Heavier side sleepers with broad shoulders will want the pillow as tall as can be, as you may compress the foam more and will want the pillow tall enough to keep your head in line with your shoulders.
Likewise, heavier back sleepers may compress the foam more, so to keep your neck in a neutral alignment, more fill may be necessary. Stomach sleepers over 230 lb will still want to keep the pillow relatively low, so you’d still need to take out a good amount of the fill.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
With all the fill in the pillow, lightweight sleepers of all positions may find this pillow to be too firm. I would recommend taking out the fill until you find a loft that is comfortable enough for you to keep your neck in a neutral alignment.
For lightweight side sleepers, something too tall or too low will cause neck pain. And, again, stomach sleepers will need to remove a considerable amount of the fill to get a low loft.
Henrie Pillow Construction
So, what is the Henrie pillow made of? Let’s break it down.
Cover
Henrie uses 100%, high-quality organic cotton for the cover. This cover features a thread count of 450, which makes it feel incredibly soft to the touch.
The cotton has been OEKO-Tex certified, which means it has been grown without harmful chemicals and pesticides.
Core
On the inside of this pillow, you’ll find chopped memory foam pieces with kapok tree fibers. The memory foam has been designed specifically for Henrie, and is made of materials that are not only safe for you to use, but safe for the planet as well.
Henrie also opted for the natural, plant based kapok fibers over a synthetic polyester down alternative. This is a more eco-friendly material because kapok trees require less water to grow, and can be sustainably grown.

Height/Loft
The Henrie pillow is a fully adjustable pillow, meaning you can take out or add in fill as you see fit.
This makes it a great option for all three sleeping styles as you can adjust the loft to fit your needs and support your neck properly.
Side sleepers should keep the pillow fully stuffed to keep it as tall as possible, while back sleepers may want to take out some fill to make it about a medium loft.
For stomach sleepers, remove a good amount of the fill to make it flat and low.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
With a breathable cotton pillow cover, the Henrie pillow shouldn’t trap heat. Memory foam has been known to trap heat, however with the shredded memory foam fill, and the natural kapok tree fibers, there’s room for airflow within this pillow.

Off-Gassing
The pillow does come compressed inside a cloth bag, and will need time to expand after you remove packaging. There may be a slight chemical smell, but it fades after about 24 hours.
Care Instructions
The good news is that the outer cover is removable and completely machine washable. Henrie doesn’t offer any specific care instructions. However, common recommendations for cotton products are to wash in either a cold or warm water cycle (depending on your preference), with a detergent of your choice and then tumble dry on low heat in the dryer.
Allergies
This is a hypoallergenic pillow. Cotton is not known to trap allergens in your sleep environment, and kapok fibers are naturally hypoallergenic.

How Does the Henrie Pillow Compare to Other Pillows?
When you’re looking for a new pillow, doing some comparison shopping can help you figure out what’s best for you! Let’s see how the Henrie pillow stacks up against two other pillows on the market.
Henrie vs Brooklyn Bedding
The Henrie pillow and the Brooklyn Bedding pillows use foam, but Henrie uses traditional foam, while Brooklyn Bedding uses latex foam These two types of foam perform very differently.
One quality of latex pillows, whether they’re full of a solid piece or shredded latex foam, is that they feel much more responsive than standard foam. This means the pillow will spring back into shape and you won’t sink in too much. This is what the Brooklyn Bedding pillow feels like!
Both pillows should be good for hot sleepers, with breathable outer pillowcases, and both will be good for multiple sleeping positions. This is because Brooklyn Bedding offers two loft options, and the Henrie pillow is adjustable.
But if you like to sink into your pillow more, the Henrie pillow is for you!
Who Should Get the Henrie Pillow?
- Fans of that slow moving memory foam feel
- People looking for an adjustable pillow
Who Should Get the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow?
- Fans of responsive pillows
- Combo sleepers who change positions throughout the night

Henrie vs PillowCube
Foam pillows can come to you shredded or in a single piece. One pillow that features a single piece of memory foam, that’s also been designed for side sleepers, is the Pillow Cube!
Despite being full of slow moving memory foam, it is a firm pillow that lets you sink into it while still providing good support. It’s been designed specifically for side sleepers, but the company offers different models to accommodate different needs.
Henrie currently only sells one pillow, and while it can be versatile on its own, the company doesn’t offer any variety on the pillow, like a cooling pillow version. However, this pillow on its own shouldn’t trap heat, unlike the original PillowCube. (You can opt for Pillow Cube’s cooling cover for an additional fee).
