Who Might Choose GhostPillow…

  • Sleepers who prefer the contouring feel of memory foamThe core of the GhostPillow is gel memory foam that upholds the classic “sinking in” feel that is characteristic of memory foam. It’s on the plusher side – about a 5/10 on the firmness scale – so sleepers can anticipate their heads to sink fairly far into the pillow.
  • Those who find the scent of lavender soothing. The GhostPillow has an added scent of lavender is noticeable the minute the box is opened. GhostBed says it should dissipate over time; based on reviews I looked at, some customers find it relaxing, while others with a more sensitive sense of smell may find the feature more challenging to overcome.

Who Might Choose Bear…

  • People who prefer the bouncy resilience of latex. The core of the Bear pillow is a solid piece of Loft-X foam, which is essentially a proprietary combination of memory foam and latex foam. Based on my experience, it responds more like a latex pillow, with a springier (and lighter) overall feel and responds nearly automatically to any touch. However, it retains some density and weight as a memory foam pillow would.
  • Shoppers who want size options. The GhostPillow comes in just a Queen size but the Bear pillow offers a Queen option and a King option respectively.

Who Might Choose Either…

  • People who tend to sleep hot. Hot sleepers can find foam pillows challenging because of their tendency to trape heat; however, both of these pillows are designed with cooling features. Both pillows have ventilated and/or aerated cores that promote airflow from within. In addition, the GhostPillow has proprietary Phase Change Materia(PCM) an innovative cooling technology that will draw heat away from the head in an effort to regulate a person’s body temperature. The Bear pillow is made with Double Ice Fabric that’s woven with a fabric marketed as “cool yarn” – it provides a cool-to-the-touch feel to the cover.
  • Back and/or side sleepers. There are a couple of things that make these pillows better for side and back sleepers over stomach sleepers. First, they feature 5″ and 5.5″ height profiles, which tend to be too tall for stomach sleepers. Secondly, they’re both filled with solid pieces of foam that won’t change shape and won’t fall flat (for a long time, at least). While the GhostPIllow may be plusher than the Bear pillow, both are better suited for back and side sleeping.

Overall

Back and side sleepers can’t go wrong with either option. Those who prefer memory foam will probably like the feel of GhostPillow and those looking for something with a little more bounce will like the Bear pillow. Both pillows come with lengthy trial periods and cost around the same price for a Queen.
