Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow Firmness and Feel
Let’s take a look at the firmness level and feel of the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow:
How Firm is the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow?
Compared to other blended latex pillows, the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow is very soft and plush. This pillow has lots of give and contours well to the head. Overall, it gives nice support and pressure relief.
Despite its softness, this pillow feels rather weighty. The solid feel to this pillow makes it a good option for hugging or cuddling during the night.
This pillow is on the softer side of latex pillows. I’d rate this pillow as a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale.
Sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow
Because this pillow comes in two different loft options, it could be suitable for all three sleeping positions. Brooklyn Bedding recommends the low loft option for stomach sleepers and back sleepers and the high loft option for side sleepers and back sleepers who snore.
However, I found this pillow may be too soft for side sleeping. Side sleepers may need a firmer pillow to maintain good neutral alignment in their spine. Because this pillow is so soft and forgiving, it may not support a side sleeper’s head and neck enough to prevent discomfort.
What does the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow Feel Like?
Made from natural talalay latex, this is a springy and responsive pillow. The foam conforms well to the head but returns easily to its original shape when pressure is removed.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lb
If you’re an average weight back sleeper who likes a very plush pillow, this is great pillow for you. You’ll get a good cushion from the natural latex, and the breathable core will help keep you cool all night long.
Average weight stomach sleepers will need the low loft option. This pillow is very soft and will give average weight sleepers the feeling of sinking into the pillow. Side sleepers, however, may prefer a firmer pillow to support their head and neck.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
Because this pillow is so soft and plush, it may not be the best option for heavyweight sleepers. Side sleepers in particular may not find the firmness and support they need from the latex core.
Heavyweight back sleepers may prefer the higher loft option for this pillow, as the extra height will help cradle the neck and accommodate for more sinkage in the latex.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
This pillow may be best for lightweight sleepers. Although this pillow is probably still best for back sleepers, lightweight sleepers of any sleep position shouldn’t sink too much into the latex.

Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow Construction
Cover
The Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow comes with a removable cover made from organic cotton. It’s a nice touch, as it provides an extra layer of protection that can be removed and washed on its own. Organic cotton is naturally breathable and shouldn’t interfere with airflow through the pillow.
One thing to note is that the zipper and the tag come on opposite ends of the cover. When the Talalay Latex Pillow is in a pillowcase, one of these may poke out. This shouldn’t trouble sleepers who are still during the night, but it could be a bit of a nuisance for sleepers who toss and turn.
Core
This Brooklyn Bedding pillow is made from ventilated talalay latex. Derived from the sap of rubber trees, talalay latex is hypoallergenic and naturally breathable. Brooklyn Bedding produces their latex from environmentally friendly sources.
Something to note about the latex core is that while it is labeled as natural latex, the core is really a 70% synthetic/30% natural latex blend. Sleepers who want a 100% natural latex pillow should look elsewhere.
Weight
This pillow is fairly weighty. The king-sized pillow weighs 5 lbs and the queen-sized pillow weighs just over 3 lbs.
Height/Loft
We refer to the height of the pillow as its loft. The Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow comes in two loft options: High and Low.
The High option is 5” tall, and the Low loft option is 4” tall. The extra inch on the higher loft option provides slightly more elevation for taller individuals or sleepers who snore, while the lower loft option is better suited for stomach sleepers or side sleepers with a narrow shoulder.

Here’s how Brooklyn Bedding’s Talalay Latex Pillow performs in a few important categories:
Sleeping Hot or Cold
This pillow sleeps cool–like, seriously cool. In addition to the naturally breathable latex, the organic cotton cover promotes airflow through the pillow, which keeps both you and the pillow cool throughout the night.

Off-Gassing
This pillow comes compressed in a box, which means there might be a slight chemical smell when you unbox it. The good news is that this fades after about 24 hours, and the responsiveness of the natural latex means this pillow won’t take too long to assume its normal shape after unboxing.
Care Instructions
While the organic cotton cover is washable, Brooklyn Bedding recommends spot cleaning only for the talalay latex core.
Both king size and queen size Talalay Latex Pillows should fit in standard size pillowcases, which will provide another, more easily cleaned layer of protection for the pillows.
Allergies
Brooklyn Bedding lists the Talalay Latex Pillow as hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin. The pillow’s natural materials should make this pillow suitable for those with asthma or allergies.
Company Policies
If you purchase one of Brooklyn Bedding’s Talalay Latex Pillows, here’s what you can expect:

Common Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow Complaints
Most of the online reviews for this pillow praise it for its responsive design and high quality materials. Some claim the pillow helped alleviate neck pain or back pain with its forgiving natural latex.
Others, however, wish for a slightly firmer pillow and complain either of its thickness or its softness. These claims echo our own observations that this pillow might be too soft and forgiving for side sleepers or sleepers who like a firmer pillow. While the different loft options solve for issues of height, both options will still have a lot of give and may be too soft for some sleepers.
How Does Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow Compare To Other Pillows?
How does the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow compare to other pillows on the market? Let’s break it down.
Brooklyn Bedding Vs. Eli and Elm
While the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow has a lot of strengths, it may not be the best pillow for side sleepers. What about a pillow designed specifically with side sleepers in mind?
Enter the Eli and Elm Cotton Side Sleeper, which comes in a unique, curved shape that conforms to the side sleeper’s head. Like the Talalay Latex Pillow, the Cotton Side Sleeper is hypoallergenic and comes with an organic cotton cover.
While it doesn’t have the same cooling properties as the Talalay Latex Pillow, the Cotton Side Sleeper may be a good alternative for side sleepers who need extra support for their head and neck.
Who Should Get the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow:
- Hot sleepers
- Sleepers who like pillows with a lot of give
Who Should Get the Eli And Elm Cotton Side Sleeper:
- Side sleepers
- Sleepers who like to customize the firmness of their pillows

Brooklyn Bedding Vs. Coop Sleep Goods
Alongside latex, memory foam is a popular pillow material. Coop Sleep Goods’ Original Premium Adjustable Loft Pillow features a shredded memory foam filling that can be added or removed to fit the sleeper’s individual preferences. What else is different about this memory foam pillow?
Unlike the Brooklyn Bedding pillow option, the Coop Sleep Goods’ pillow itself is machine washable. The removable foam filling, however, may get messy when removed, and it may be difficult to achieve the precise right loft. The two loft options for Brooklyn Bedding’s Talalay Latex pillow make it easy to get a pillow with the height you want.
Who Should Get the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex Pillow:
- Fans of responsive, springy pillows
- Hot sleepers
