Bear Contour Pillow Firmness and Feel
Thanks to its double-sided cover and siliconized fiber filling, the Bear Contour pillow is cozy, cool, plush, and responsive. Let’s take a look at how this versatile pillow feels:
How Firm is the Bear Contour Pillow?
The Bear Contour Pillow has a great balance of plush comfort and firm support. As a medium firm pillow, the Contour pillow holds its shape well and strikes a nice balance between fluffy and firm.
Sleeping on the Bear Contour Pillow
The Bear Contour Pillow is a great choice for side and back sleepers. The U-shaped design contours well to the back sleeper’s head and neck and helps maintain good spinal alignment. Bear even suggests the Contour pillow can help reduce snoring in some back sleepers.
For side sleepers, the ergonomic U-shaped cutout prevents you from having to squish the pillow to accommodate your shoulder. The 6” height creates a lot of space and keeps the your head and neck aligned. As a dedicated side sleeper myself, I found the shape and size of this pillow offered a great combination of neck support and comfort.
While this pillow works well for back and side sleepers, I would not recommend the Bear Contour pillow for stomach sleepers. The height and firmness that make the Bear Pillow so comfortable for side and back sleepers will likely crane the stomach sleeper’s head up and may cause neck pain down the line. Plus, with its unique shape, it just might not feel super comfortable to sleep on.

What does the Bear Contour Pillow Feel Like?
Due to its siliconized fiber fill, this Bear pillow feels responsive. It doesn’t have the same slow-moving feel as a memory foam pillow, but it still feels fairly solid. It kept my head and neck comfortably aligned as I slept. No excessive sinking here!
The Bear Contour Pillow still manages to feel plush, too! This is due in part to its double-sided cover. The soft side feels silky and smooth, while the cooling side is cool to the touch and great for hot sleepers.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230lb
Average weight side and back sleepers will find a great balance of comfort and support in the Bear Contour pillow. The pillow will contour well to the head and neck and should keep the spine in neutral alignment, which will prevent nightly discomfort and future neck pain.
This pillow is too tall and firm for average weight stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers should look for a pillow that is flatter and softer than the Bear Contour pillow.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lb
Heavyweight side sleepers and back sleepers will also enjoy the Bear Contour pillow, as their head shouldn’t sink too far into the pillow in either sleeping position. Heavyweight stomach sleepers, however, will still find the Bear Contour pillow to be too tall and firm to sleep comfortably.
Although this pillow only comes in a standard queen size, it still feels like a fairly large and accommodating pillow. The Bear Contour pillow should still provide enough size and space to fit sleepers with larger frames.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lb
These sleepers’ heads might sink into the Bear Contour pillow even less, but lightweight back sleepers should still get enough contouring from the U-shaped design to maintain neutral alignment. Likewise, lightweight side sleepers will find ample room for their shoulders in the ergonomic cutout.
Lightweight stomach sleepers in particular need a flatter, less firm pillow to keep their neck and spine in neutral alignment. The Bear Contour pillow is simply too tall and firm for most lightweight stomach sleepers. I recommend lightweight stomach sleepers check out other, flatter pillows.

Bear Contour Pillow Construction
Cover
The Bear Contour Pillow stands out from other contour pillows with its unique double-sided fabric cover. On one side, you have cool-to-the-touch ICE fabric that is great for hot sleepers and warmer months. This side incorporates phase change material which will draw heat away from your body!
On the other side, you have a smooth and silky polyester fabric that gives the pillow a more traditional, cozy feel. Flipping this pillow gives sleepers the best of both worlds.
Core
The core of the Bear Contour pillow is made from siliconized fiber. This material aids in the pillow’s contouring ability and should be fairly breathable. It feels like your standard down alternative, nice and plush, but will give good support, too.
Height/Loft
When we talk about loft, we’re referring to the height of the pillow. Loft is especially important to side sleepers, who require a tall pillow to keep their neck and shoulders in line with their spine. Neutral alignment prevents future neck or back pain and aids in quality sleep.
The Bear Contour Pillow stands 6” tall. This high loft is best suited for side and back sleepers. Stomach sleepers will want a loft closer to 3” tall.

Here’s how the Bear Contour Pillow performs in a few important categories:
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Double Ice Fabric Technology on one side of the cover makes the Bear Contour pillow a great cooling pillow. The fabric is cool to the touch and promotes breathability through the pillow’s core. When flipped to this side, the Bear Contour Pillow is a great option for hot sleepers.
One thing that impressed me the most about the cooling side was its ability to regulate my temperature. I tend to switch sides during the night, and when I turned back to the Bear Contour pillow, the cover was still icy cool on my face!
Off-Gassing
This pillow comes ready for a good night’s sleep. The Bear Contour pillow ships in a plastic covering, and because it is not compressed into a box, it does not come with that slight “new-bed” chemical scent. No need to worry about off-gassing with this pillow!
Care Instructions
The Bear Contour Pillow is not machine washable. Bear recommends spot cleaning only.
Although the double-sided cover is not removable, the Bear Contour Pillow should fit into most standard or queen-size pillowcases. These can provide additional protection for the pillow and can be removed and washed as needed.
Allergies
Bear lists the Contour pillow as a hypoallergenic pillow. It shouldn’t aggravate asthma or collect allergens like dust mites.
Company Policies
If you decide to pick up a Bear Contour pillow for yourself, here’s what you can expect:

How Does The Bear Contour Pillow Compare To Other Pillows?
With its double-sided cover and ergonomic design, the Bear Contour pillow solves for the needs of many different types of sleepers. But is it the best pillow for you? See how the Bear Contour Pillow stacks up to other pillows on the market:
Bear Vs. Coop Sleep Goods
The Bear Contour pillow strikes a good balance between comfort and support with its siliconized fiber core. Fans of memory foam, however, may prefer the Coop Sleep Goods Original Adjustable Loft pillow, which features the company’s proprietary blend of shredded memory foam and microfiber.
Like the Bear Contour pillow, the Coop Original pillow is medium firm and comes tall enough to accommodate back and side sleepers. Because the filling of the Coop Original pillow can be added or removed to suit the individual, stomach sleepers will have an easier time finding a comfortable loft with the Coop Original than the Bear Contour pillow.
The Coop Original pillow’s shredded memory foam promotes airflow through the pillow, meaning neither pillow should sleep hot. Particularly hot sleepers may prefer the Bear’s ICE cooling fabric, though.
Who Should Get the Bear Contour Pillow:

- Fans of head-contouring pillows

Bear Vs. Pillow Cube
The Bear Contour pillow’s ergonomic U-shape makes the pillow great for side sleepers. But, it’s not the only pillow shape that is good for side sleepers. The Pillow Cube’s unique cube shape is made for side sleepers, by side sleepers. Let’s compare!
Constructed from polyurethane memory foam, the Pillow Cube is designed to fit the side sleeper’s “shoulder gap.” This means side sleepers won’t have to worry about molding their pillow into odd shapes to accommodate their shoulder. Like the Bear Contour pillow, the Pillow Cube is good for hot sleepers. The Pillow Cube comes in high and low loft options to fit side sleepers of different sizes.
Who Should Get the Bear Contour Pillow:
- Back sleepers
- Fans of down alternative pillows
Who Should Get the Pillow Cube?
