Avocado Molded Latex Pillow Firmness and Feel
The two most important factors for a pillow are how firm they are and how they feel. Let’s talk about both of those traits for the Avocado pillow.
How Firm is the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow?
There’s no getting around it — the Avocado Molded Latex pillow is a firm pillow. The foam used to make this pillow is quite dense, and you won’t be able to compress it much, if at all. This makes it a great option for those looking for neck support or side sleepers who need to keep their head in a neutral position.

Sleeping On the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow
Personally, I’m used to sleeping on more medium-firm pillows, so sleeping on a firm pillow like the Avocado pillow was a bit of an adjustment. As a side sleeper, I found this pillow to be a little low for my liking. Though the pillow stands at roughly 5” tall, I have broad shoulders, so that could be the reason I felt my head craning downward.
However, resting on my back was very nice. If you’re looking for neck support, firm pillows are the way to go. I felt very comfortable in this sleep position.
That being said, stomach-sleeping was a bit of a challenge. This pillow has too high of a loft and it’s way too firm to sleep on comfortably if you’re a stomach sleeper.
For this review I received the standard-sized pillow, though Avocado does sell it in queen and king sizes as well. They even have a mini version that’s ideal for traveling.
What Does the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow Feel Like?
When it comes to latex foam pillows, they don’t feel the same as memory foam pillows. Latex foam is much more responsive, and has a springy quality to it. You won’t get the same contouring you find in traditional foam pillows. But this responsiveness makes it easy to move around on.

Average-Weight Sleepers: 130 lbs–230 lbs
Average-weight back sleepers and side sleepers should find exactly what they need in the Avocado Latex, especially if they prefer firm pillows. On your back, there’s a good amount of neck support, which can help relieve neck pain. And if you have narrow or average-length shoulders, side-sleeping should be very comfortable.
Average-weight stomach sleepers, however, may want to opt for an adjustable pillow to make it softer and lower the loft. In fact, you can read a full list of our best pillows for stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers: Over 230 lbs
Heavyweight back sleepers and side sleepers should also enjoy this pillow. They’ll likely compress the foam a bit more than others, but because this is a firm pillow, they’ll still get optimal support for back-sleeping. But heavier side sleepers with broad shoulders may want to consider a taller pillow to keep their head and neck in a neutral position.

Lightweight Sleepers: Under 130 lbs
Of all the body types, lightweight sleepers may find this pillow too firm to sleep on, as they won’t compress the foam as much, and thus may not get the pressure relief they want. It might still work for back-sleeping if you prefer a firm pillow, but overall, I’d recommend something either medium-firm or soft.
Avocado Molded Latex Pillow Construction
Let’s see how the Avocado Molded Latex pillow is built.
Cover
The Avocado latex pillow comes with a removable, 100% organic cotton cover. It feels very soft and is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. This means the cotton is grown in sustainable and responsible ways.
Core
Peeling back the cover, you’ll find the pillow’s organic latex core. Unlike shredded filling, such as the fill found in the Saatva latex pillow, this comes to you in a single foam slab, hence the “molded” portion of this pillow’s name. This helps the pillow retain its shape, in addition to keeping it from sagging over time. The foam core is also perforated, which should make way for plenty of airflow and help prevent the trapping of heat.
True to Avocado’s mission, the natural latex has many certifications from organizations that are dedicated to using safe, eco-friendly materials. For instance, it’s been eco-INSTITUT and Greenguard Gold certified, meaning that the foam hasn’t produced dangerous emissions and is not made of synthetic materials. As a bonus, there’s even a charcoal infusion in the foam to help prevent the pillow from developing odors over time.
Weight
The Avocado Molded Latex Pillow has different weights depending on the size you purchase. They are as follows:
- Standard: 3.4 lb
- Queen: 5.1 lb
- King: 6 lb
Height/Loft
Loft refers to the height of a pillow, and the Avocado Molded Latex pillow is roughly 5” tall. This makes it a mid-range loft, and can work well for heavier back sleepers and average-weight side sleepers with narrower shoulders.

So, how did this fully organic pillow perform when we tested it? Let’s discuss some key performance factors.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Good news for hot sleepers: this pillow is designed to not trap heat! There are two main components to the construction, and both of them are great options for hot sleepers. The outer pillowcase is made from organic cotton, which is a very breathable material. Latex is known to be naturally breathable as well. Additionally, the perforations in the pillow’s core allow for airflow.
Off-Gassing
Off-gassing refers to the slightly chemical smell that sometimes accompanies sleep products that have been compressed and shipped in a box. But because the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow doesn’t arrive compressed, there shouldn’t be any noticeable scent. You can start sleeping on it right away.
Care Instructions
The Avocado latex pillow does come with a removable, cotton cover that’s machine-washable. Avocado recommends that you wash it with warm water and then let it hang-dry.
Allergies
Though the Avocado Molded Latex pillow isn’t marketed as a hypoallergenic product, it shouldn’t trigger allergies. Cotton is not known to trap allergens, and the charcoal-infused latex is designed to eliminate odors that could develop within the pillow.
Company Policies
Here’s what you can expect when you make a purchase with Avocado.

The Avocado Molded Latex pillow comes with a one-year warranty. This warranty does cover factory defects, but not general wear and tear, comfort preferences, or intentional damage to the product.
Sleep Trial
Not sure if the latex pillow is going to be for you? Avocado offers a 100-night sleep trial to give you plenty of time to test it out.
Return Policy
You can make returns or exchanges on this pillow for a full refund, so long as you do so within the 100-night trial period.
Common Avocado Molded Latex Pillow Complaints
Many customers have praised the Avocado latex pillow for its amazing support and comfort. However, every rose has its thorn. After looking through some customer complaints, many found the pillow to be too firm or not tall enough for side sleepers with wider shoulders.
This pillow is certainly classified as a firm, which can be an excellent match for a lot of sleepers out there. But if you’re looking for a medium-firm or soft pillow, it would be best to look at other options.
How Does Avocado Molded Latex Pillow Compare to Other Pillows?
When looking for a new pillow, it can be overwhelming with so many options available. With that in mind, let’s compare the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow with two other pillows that feature different materials to give you a good idea of how it performs against the competition.
Avocado vs Nolah
The big difference between the Nolah Squishy pillow and the Avocado pillow is the materials. Starting on the outside, the Nolah Squishy Pillow features a soft bamboo lyocell cover that is breathable like cotton. It has the added benefit of being moisture-wicking as well.
On the inside of the Nolah pillow, you’ll find chopped memory foam cubes, which give it the traditional, slow-moving feel of memory foam. Avocado’s pillow will feel much more springy and responsive due to its single piece of latex foam.
The Nolah pillow is an adjustable pillow, meaning you can take out or add in the memory foam fill to make it the loft and firmness you prefer. Finally, the Nolah Squishy pillow is only sold as a double pack. And while you can purchase a double pack from Avocado, you do have the option to buy it as a single pillow.
Who Should Get the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow?
- Fans of bouncy, springy latex foam pillows
- Anyone needing just one pillow
Who Should Get the Nolah Squishy Pillow?
- Couples, as you can only buy a double pack
- Fans of the traditional, slow-moving memory foam feel

Avocado vs Brooklinen
Latex might not be the most traditional fill for a pillow, but down is. Usually made from the feathers of geese or ducks, down is fluffier and a bit more flexible than latex. If you’re interested in a pillow with down filling, you may want to check out the Brooklinen Down Pillow — one of the brand’s most popular sleep accessories.
Brooklinen sells this pillow in three firmness options: Plush, Mid-Plush, and Firm. For this comparison, we’ll focus on the Mid-Plush version, but knowing that a pillow has firmness options could be a plus for some.
The Mid-Plush Brooklinen pillow feels a good deal softer than the Avocado. So if you tend to prefer plush-feeling pillows, opt for this instead. Stomach sleepers can also compress soft down pillows more to get to a position they need to stay in a comfortable position.
Hot sleepers may find more comfort with the Avocado pillow, as down can be a natural insulator. And finally, in terms of price, the Brooklinen pillow is a bit more affordable.
Who Should Get the Avocado Molded Latex Pillow?
- Fans of firm pillows
- Anyone looking for a pillow made of natural materials
