How Does The Tuft & Needle Adjustable Bed Frame Work?

Let’s get up close and personal with the Tuft & Needle adjustable bed frame! In the following sections, we’ll detail how this base works, including its construction, settings, and more.

Design

First, let’s take a look at how this adjustable base is designed! Its Parts The Tuft & Needle adjustable base is made from a white, stainless steel frame with birch-veneered wood slats across the top. It’s much more modern-looking than many adjustable bases. Inside the frame, there are two motors that power the base’s adjustments. Remote Control Tuft & Needle’s adjustable base comes with a remote control that controls the motors inside the frame. It comes with a few preset options, which we’ll detail below. A hand holds the Tuft & Needle remote with the base in the background Different Settings Here’s a quick look at the various settings that come with the Tuft & Needle base.
  • Standard settings. As with any adjustable bed, you can raise and lower the head and foot areas of the frame using the remote control.
  • Anti-snore. Press this preset button, and the frame will raise your head to an elevation that’s supposed to reduce pressure on your airways. This should make breathing easier, thereby cutting down on snoring.
  • Zero Gravity Position. This is the second preset option. Press this button, and the frame will elevate your body so it feels a bit like you’re sleeping in Zero G.
  • Memory. The remote control only handles two presets total. So if you want to use the memory function, your preferred setting will take the place of the Anti-Snore or Zero Gravity function.

Tuft & Needle Base Mattress Compatibility

The Tuft & Needle adjustable base is designed to work with any mattress that’s compatible with an adjustable bed frame. So you don’t need to own a Tuft & Needle mattress to use this base. We tested out the bed frame with the Tuft & Needle Original mattress, and it worked extremely well. Because this is a thinner mattress, it really hugs the adjustable base and moves along with it. We didn’t notice any real bunching up.

Putting The Tuft & Needle Adjustable Base Together

In our experience, this base is more difficult to set up than many other adjustable bases that we’ve tried. It comes in multiple boxes, and there’s quite a bit of assembly required. You’ll need to unbox the pieces, lay down the two main pieces and crossbars, hook up the wires to the control box, and place the pouch beneath the main slat. Then you’ll need to screw on the other slats. Finally, you’ll need to pair the remote with the motors. This is all a bit complex and time-consuming. Trial Period

The Tuft & Needle adjustable frame comes with a 100-night trial period. This is longer than the trial period for many adjustable bases.

Warranty

Tuft & Needle’s adjustable frame comes with a 10-year limited warranty. This is pretty standard.

Tuft & Needle Adjustable Base Performance

We personally evaluated the Tuft & Needle adjustable frame to assess its adjustability, wall-hugging, noise, durability, and more. Let’s see how this base performed!

Materials

This base is made from sturdy materials overall. These materials include a metal frame and hard, veneered wood.

Adjustability

The bed frame offers a wide range of adjustments. The head goes up extremely far—almost to a 90-degree angle! The legs, on the other hand, don’t go up very far at all. A wide shot of a man adjusting the Tuft & Needle base while he lies down

Remote Control

The remote control is very simple, and it only has a few buttons. This makes it pretty darn intuitive and easy to use.

Wall-Hugging

In our experience, the Tuft & Needle adjustable base does not perform well when it comes to wall-hugging. The head area moves away from the wall when we incline it.

Noise

Any adjustable base is going to make some noise as the motors kick in and the frame changes position. Even so, this is one of the noisier frames that we’ve tested.

Durability

The Tuft & Needle base’s metal frame should last for at least 10 years, and it comes with a 10-year warranty. However, we did notice that the motors started to whine when inclining our heavier-weight reviewer.

Zero-Gravity Function

With the click of a button, you can opt for a zero-gravity setting that’s supposed to relieve pressure on the lower back. However, this isn’t the best zero-gravity function that we’ve tried. The legs didn’t go up far enough to help us feel weightless.

Anti-Snore Function

As we noted above, pushing the anti-snore button results in the head section rising ever so slightly. This can relieve pressure on the airways and make it easier to breathe freely—good news for snorers and their partners, who are more likely to sleep through the night when snoring is reduced.

Massage

The Tuft & Needle adjustable frame does not come with any massage features. This feature can be found on many other adjustable bed frames.

Additional Features

This base is very simple and fairly limited in its functionality. It doesn’t come with additional features.

Pros And Cons

Let’s sum up what we’ve learned about the Tuft & Needle adjustable frame with a quick look at its pros and cons! Pros
  • A good value
  • Has a sleek design
  • Good sleep trial and warranty
Cons
  • Not many extra features
  • Difficult to set up
  • Not great at wall-hugging or zero gravity
