Saatva Adjustable Base Plus: General Overview

Saatva is a popular online mattress brand that is known for its high-quality, durable beds. You can choose from innerspring mattresses like the Saatva Classic, memory foam options like the Loom & Leaf, and latex beds like the Zenhaven.

No matter what mattress you choose, you may want to pair it with the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus. It features a durable design, and a number of extra features that make it ideal for snorers, seniors, and those with pain issues.

Pros of the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

  • It boasts some excellent extra features. You can choose from massage, Zero Gravity, and other helpful presets.
  • The base’s Anti-Snore feature can help curb snoring and, paired with a good CPAP machine, can work for people with sleep apnea.
  • The base costs less than $1,500 for a queen size. This is surprisingly affordable for such a nice base.
  • It is one of the best adjustable bases on the market.

Cons of the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

  • While it is a durable base, it isn’t as high-end as some bases on the market. If you want a base with even more bells and whistles, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
  • The base does not come with a sleep trial. If the Saatva does not work for you, you will not be able to return it.

How Does the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus Work?

I’d like to start by discussing what the Saatva base is made of and how it works.

Design

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus has a similar design to many of the bases I have reviewed. It features a steel frame topped with a platform. The platform consists of a bit of foam covered with polyester fabric. At the foot of the bed, there is a metal retainer bar designed to keep your mattress from sliding off as you adjust the bed.

Plastic legs hold the base up, and they are adjustable so you can make the bed taller or shorter. You can also take the legs completely off, as the Saatva is a “zero clearance” base that will even work on top of a platform bed.

Settings

First off, the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus has the same settings you’ll find with most bases. You can raise the head and foot areas of the base to make yourself more comfortable and even promote better circulation.

In addition, the base features a number of other presets. Zero Gravity raises your head slightly and raises your legs up even more. This is meant to ease back pain, joint pain, and circulation issues. The Anti-Snore function raises the head just a bit to prevent your esophagus from collapsing while you sleep. If there are other positions that work particularly well for you, you can also program your own memory settings.

The Saatva also boasts massage features, where you can control the intensity of the vibration. You can also use the base’s wave function to move the vibrations up and down your body.

Other Settings

The Saatva base features USB ports where you can plug in your phone or other devices to charge. Also, LED lights run along the bottom of the base, and you can turn them on and off with the remote.

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus Mattress Compatibility

I paired the Saatva base with one of my favorite mattresses, the Saatva Latex Hybrid. Usually, adjustable bases work best with all-foam mattresses, but the base was up to the challenge, even paired with this thicker, heavier mattress.

I always look to see if the mattress lifts off the base while adjusting the base, but I didn’t see too much of this. The bed’s sticky strips and retainer bar ensured the mattress stayed flush against the bed.

How to Assemble the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus

Overall, the Saatva base was easy to set up. However, keep in mind that this base is extremely heavy. I don’t recommend that you try to set it up by yourself.

I asked my coworker for help, and with just a little bit of exertion, we took it out of the box and flipped it upside down. Then, it was a simple matter of screwing in the legs, flipping it back over, and plugging it in.

Company Policies

Let’s take a look at Saatva’s fine print.

Trial Period

As is true with most adjustable bases, the Saatva does not come with a trial period. You’ll want to make sure this is the right base for you before purchasing.

Warranty

You get a 25-year warranty with the Saatva base. In the first five years of the warranty, the brand will cover any defects in the frame and electronics. In the final 20 years of the warranty, the brand will not cover issues with the electronics.

Return Policy

You cannot return or exchange the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus.

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus Performance

I ran the Saatva through a number of tests to see how effective and comfortable its different settings are.

Materials

The Saatva Adjustable Base Plus features durable materials that should stand up to years of use. The only issue I saw was with the plastic legs. They seem sturdy, but won’t be as long-lasting as the wood legs you find in other bases.

Adjustability

I was impressed by the adjustability of the Saatva. The head section rose almost to a full sitting position, so I was able to watch TV and read with no issues.

The leg section came up to a 45-degree angle, similar to what I have found with most other bases.

Remote Control

I found it very easy to use the base’s remote, and I had no issue trying out any of the features. The flashlight at the end of the remote was also a nice touch.

Wall-hugging

When I raised the head area of the base, the entire top portion shifted toward the wall. This is what is known as “wall-hugging,” and it kept me relatively close to my night table, even when the head area was completely raised.

Noise

The Saatva wasn’t the loudest adjustable base I have reviewed. However, it did make a whining noise when I raised and lowered the head and foot sections. It is normal to hear a bit of noise, no matter what base you have.

A man tests out the Zero Gravity function of the Saatva Lineal Base

Zero-Gravity Function

In my experience, the Saatva’s Zero-Gravity was effective. I deal with lower back pain, and this setting relieved some pressure in that area. If you deal with pain or circulation issues, this setting could be helpful.

Anti-Snore Function

As I said above, I personally struggle with sleep apnea. I have a CPAP machine, but I also like to raise my head using a pillow to really prevent my throat from collapsing while I sleep. I liked how the Anti-Snore function raised my head just a bit so that I didn’t need to prop myself up with a pillow.

Massage

I was a huge fan of the massage features with this base. I enjoyed the wave function, and the targeted head and foot area massage was strong enough for me to feel it through the thick Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress.

Saatva Adjustable Base Plus Pros and Cons

Once again, here are the upsides and downsides of the Saatva Adjustable Base Plus.

Pros

  • It is a great value adjustable base.
  • It is easy to set up and to use.
  • The Saatva will work well for seniors.

Cons

  • It is a simpler adjustable base and is not as luxurious as some bases.
  • You get no sleep trial and cannot return the base.
