Our Take on the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is made by the Purple brand, which is a popular online mattress retailer. Purple’s mattress lineup includes the original Purple mattress, the Purple Restore, Purple Rejuvenate, and kid mattresses. The company also sells a variety of mattress and sleep accessories including pillows, bedding, bed frames, pet beds, and more.

In our experience, the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is a very aesthetically pleasing adjustable frame. It can be paired with another (non-adjustable) bed frame, but it also looks great on its own. In addition to looks, the Ascent base offers several settings and functions, including a particularly good Zero Gravity setting. It doesn’t offer as many presets as some adjustable bases (for instance, it doesn’t have a massage function), and it’s pretty noisy. But it’s still a user-friendly base with a lot to offer. It comes in a variety of sizes, namely Twin XL, Queen, King, and Split King.

Who Should Get the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base?

  • People who are looking for an adjustable base to use by itself. This is a very good-looking base with wood legs and nice upholstery around the ends.
  • People who want a good sleep trial and warranty.
  • Those who want one of the best adjustable beds for snoring.

Who Shouldn’t Get the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base?

  • Folks who want an adjustable base with more presets.
  • People who want a base with massage features.
  • People who want an adjustable base that excels at wall hugging.

How Does the Purple Ascent Adjustable Bed Frame Work?

Let’s get up close and personal with the Purple Ascent Adjustable Bed Frame! Below, we’ll explain how this adjustable base works, including its construction and settings.

Design

Let’s kick things off by taking a look at how Purple’s adjustable base is designed!

Parts

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is made from a metal frame surrounded by foam and grey upholstery. Its 9” adjustable legs are made from wood, which creates an aesthetically pleasing appearance. There are two motors inside the frame; these allow the base to change positions.

Remote Control

The remote control manages the two motors inside the adjustable base. You can use the control to navigate all the available settings for the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base. Which brings us to the next point…

Different Settings

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base comes with several settings.

  • Standard settings. As you’d expect from any adjustable bed, users can raise and lower the head and foot areas of the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base.
  • Sitting position. Select this setting to have the adjustable base raise the head area until it supports a comfortable sitting position. This setting is great for reading or watching TV in bed.
  • Anti-snore. Research suggests that slightly elevating a snorer’s head during the night can reduce snoring. The anti-snore setting on the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base slightly raises the head area to minimize the chance of snoring.
  • Zero Gravity. This setting elevates the sleeper’s body so they feel like they’re sleeping in (you guessed it!) Zero G. This can help relieve pressure on the back.
  • Reprogrammable presets. Use the remote control to remember your favorite positions, and change those presets if your preferences evolve over time.
  • One-touch flat. With the click of a button, you can return the base to its default flat position.

Other Features

In addition to the settings detailed above, the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base offers two extra features.

  • USB ports. There are two built-in USB charging ports on each side of the bed frame, which allows you to easily charge a phone or other small electronics from bed.
  • Optional headboard brackets. If you want to use a headboard with the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base, you can purchase headboard brackets for an additional price.

Purple Ascent Adjustable Base Mattress Compatibility

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is designed to work with any mattress that’s compatible with an adjustable bed frame. So even if you don’t have a Purple mattress, your bed could work with the Purple base.

We tested this base with the Purple Hybrid Premier mattress. We were a bit surprised to find that it didn’t work particularly well. The Purple Hybrid Premier is a thicker mattress, and it bunched up a bit when we raised the head and/or foot of the base. The Purple Original mattress (or another thinner mattress) should perform better. Make sure to check out our best mattresses for adjustable bases as well.

Putting the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base Together

We found it pretty easy to set up the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base. The base arrives completely expanded in one box. You’ll just need to cut the zip ties, put on the legs, and flip over the base. The remote control is already paired with the base, so there’s no technical setup required.

Purple Ascent Adjustable Base Performance

We evaluated the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base to assess its adjustability, wall-hugging, noise, durability, and more. Let’s see how it performed!

Materials

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is made from sturdy materials overall. It has wooden legs and a metal frame that’s wrapped in foam and upholstery.

Adjustability

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base offers a wide range of adjustments. The head section can move from flat to a fully upright seated position. The leg section can move from flat to letting the thighs rest at a 45-degree angle.

Remote Control

In our experience, the remote control on the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base is intuitive and easy to use. In fact, it’s one of the simpler bed frame remotes that we’ve tried.

Wall-Hugging

We found that the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base does not perform well when it comes to wall-hugging. When we incline the head area, it moves away from the wall.

Noise

It’s normal for adjustable bases to make some noise when the motors are in use, and this is especially true for the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base. This is one of the noisier adjustable bases that we’ve tried.

Durability

Thanks to its metal frame and sturdy design, the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base should last for at least 10 years.

Zero-Gravity Function

This is one of the standout features of the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base. With the click of a button, the bed frame makes you feel like you’re floating in zero gravity. As we noted above, this can help relieve pressure across the body and especially the lower back.

Make sure to also check out our best mattresses for lower back pain.

Anti-Snore Function

Just push a button, and the adjustable bed’s head section will rise ever so slightly. This can relieve pressure on a snorer’s air channel, which makes it easier to breathe—and decreases the chance of snoring. This can help a snorer and their sleep partner sleep more soundly during the night. You can also customize this option to the height that’s ideal for you.

Massage

The Purple Ascent Adjustable Base does not come with any massage features.

Additional Features

As we noted above, the Purple Ascent Adjustable Base comes with multiple USB ports, which are handy for charging phones, tablets, and so on.

  • The base comes with a customer-friendly sleep trial and warranty terms.
