Nectar made its name in the online mattress world with its collection of memory foam and hybrid beds, and the Nectar Premier Hybrid  is the brand’s mid-tier offering. It’s a step up from the Nectar Classic Hybrid, with more cooling and pressure relief. But it shares a similar feel and budget-friendly price tag.

To see how this upgraded version fares across other categories, I put it through a series of tests. My Nectar Premier hybrid mattress review is an in-depth look at everything from construction to feel, so you can decide whether this bed has what it takes to support you properly.

I Recommend The Nectar Premier Hybrid For…

  • Side sleepers. This mattress is slightly softer than average, so it offers the pressure relief side sleepers need for their shoulders and hips.
  • Fans of a classic memory foam feel. This hybrid is, well, a hybrid, but its memory foam layers have that signature slow-moving feel that really conforms to your curves.
  • Hot sleepers. Between the cooling cover and airflow-promoting coils, the Premier Hybrid is a good match for hot sleepers.

I Don’t Recommend The Nectar Premier Hybrid For…

  • Those who like a bouncy bed. Despite the coil layer, this is not a bouncy mattress. If you like the buoyancy of latex, you won’t find it here.
  • A firm feel. This mattress is softer than average and really lets you sink in.
  • Stomach sleepers. The lack of firmness means stomach sleepers should look elsewhere — this mattress doesn’t have the hip support they need.

How Firm is the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress?

The Nectar Premier Hybrid features a thick layer of memory foam right on top that allows you to sink in a fair bit. Paired with the contouring coils, this mattress feels a bit on the softer end of the spectrum. We score mattresses on a scale of 1-10, and I scored it a 6/10, which is slightly softer than average.

Nectar Premier Hybrid Performance in Our Tests

Support

Support – 4.5

Support is a primary function of a mattress, and it’s a reference to how well it’s able to help you maintain a neutral spine alignment. When a mattress lacks support, you’re more likely to wake up with aches and pains.

Like other Nectar mattresses I’ve tested, the Nectar Premier provided a good amount of support. Between the coils and the memory foam, there are plenty of high-quality materials to distribute body weight and promote proper spinal alignment. Even as a bigger guy, I didn’t feel like it was bowing under my weight at all. But I will point out that it didn’t give me the support of something like the Titan Plus, which is specifically designed to accommodate heavier people.

Edge Support

Edge Support – 3.5

Edge support is a reference to how stable and supportive a mattress is around its perimeter. If you like to sit on the side of the bed to put on your socks and shoes, good edge support makes that possible without making you feel like you’re going to slide off. It’s a key consideration for couples who want room to spread out and anyone with mobility issues who finds it challenging to get in and out of bed.

The edge support isn’t great on the Premier Hybrid. When I sat on the edge and measured, it sagged a full 5.5” — not good. That isn’t usually the case with hybrid mattresses. Coil layers, especially those that are reinforced around the sides like the Premier Hybrid, often translate to good edge support.

20241101 132502

Keep in mind, however, that I’m in a higher weight category. Edge support may be better for lighter people. Plus, it fared somewhat better when I laid along the side as opposed to sitting there. That makes sense, since body weight is distributed differently when you lie down.

Cooling

Cooling – 4

Memory foam has a reputation for trapping heat, but the coil layer in hybrids helps promote airflow. Plus, the Nectar Premier Hybrid touts its cooling ability, describing it as having over 60% more cooling fibers than the original model.

To test cooling, I used my temperature gun to measure the change in surface temperature after I rested on the mattress for five minutes. It increased from 69.5 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit, which isn’t too bad. Though I’ll note that it doesn’t perform as well as other cooling mattresses that I’ve tested.

20241101 131254

Motion Transfer

Motion Transfer – 4.5

Motion transfer describes how much movement is felt across the mattress. If you share the bed with a partner or a pet, low motion transfer is ideal — it means you won’t be jostled awake if your bed partner gets in or out of bed or rolls over during the night.

For a hybrid mattress, the Premier Hybrid performed quite well. We test motion transfer by placing a full glass of water on the bed and then pressing energetically into the mattress around it. We also use a team approach, with one person laying on the mattress while the other gets in and out and bounces around to change positions. In both cases, the Premier Hybrid dampened motion well. There was little disturbance in the water, and I didn’t feel my coworker rolling around.

20241101 132706

Response

Response – 3.5

On the other side of the motion transfer coin is responsiveness. This describes how quickly a mattress bounces back into its original position when you change positions. If you’re a combination sleeper, it’s an important feature — no one wants to feel like they’re “stuck inside” the mattress. Some materials, like memory foam, take time to return to their shape, while others, like coils, are instant.

Thanks to the Nectar Premier’s slow-moving memory foam on top, I sank in quite a bit. Still, I didn’t feel stuck in this mattress, which can be an issue with memory foam. I didn’t find it too challenging to change positions, but the mattress doesn’t have near the responsiveness of something like a latex hybrid.

Durability

Durability – 4.5

Since we don’t have a crystal ball, determining durability in a mattress comes down to educated guesswork. Based on the materials used in the Nectar Premier Hybrid and its construction, it’s reasonable to expect the mattress to perform as expected for at least seven years. If it’s maintained properly, it will probably last longer.

The mattress has high-density foam and the hybrid construction adds durability, but I didn’t give it full marks because there’s a chance that it will break down faster under the weight of a heavy sleeper. If you fall into that category, you may want to consider getting a mattress made specifically for heavier people. These beds have higher-density foams and higher-gauge coils to resist premature sagging.

Nectar Premier Hybrid Policy Scores

Trial Period

Trial Period – 5

Nectar’s 365-night sleep trial is one of the best in the industry. Beginning on the day of delivery, customers have a full year to test their Nectar Premier. It’s more than enough time to decide whether the mattress ticks all the boxes for you.

Like other companies, Nectar asks for a 30-day grace period before you initiate a return. That’s because it can take up to 30 days to fully adjust to a new mattress. If you’re past the 30-day window and it’s just not working out, you can email customer service to return the mattress. Nectar doesn’t charge a return fee, either. Used mattresses are donated locally.

Warranty

Warranty – 5

Nectar’s warranty policy is as generous as its trial window. The company backs its mattresses with its “Forever Warranty,” which protects you against manufacturing or workmanship defects for the entire lifetime of the mattress.

Keep in mind that the warranty can’t be transferred. Visible indentations over 1.5”, physical flaws that cause degradation, splitting or cracking in the foam, and defects in the cover aren’t covered under the warranty. Plus, if you don’t use an appropriate base or foundation, the warranty is void.

Two-Hour Nap Test

This is one of my favorite tests. During my nap, I spent most of my time on my side. As a bigger side sleeper, I often wake up with pain in my shoulders and hips. However, this did not happen with the Nectar Premier Hybrid. I credit the thick memory layers for relieving most of the pressure on my shoulders and hips.

The cooling cover did its job nicely — I didn’t wake up feeling uncomfortably hot or sweaty.

Nectar Premier Hybrid – Other Factors To Consider

Beyond assessing edge support, cooling, and the other categories above, I put the Nectar Hybrid Premier through a few additional tests to give you the most complete picture of its performance.

Off-gassing

Off-gassing is common with bed-in-a-box mattresses, especially those made with memory foam. I expected a hint of off-gassing, and I did indeed notice a mild chemical odor when I first opened the box. It went away after a few days.

Noise

The Nectar Premier Hybrid was completely silent during my tests. On the other hand, it was brand new, so squeaks would have been a surprise. Because it’s a hybrid with a coil layer, there’s a possibility that the coils could start squeaking at some point down the road.

Sex

A good mattress for sex responds quickly, making it easier for sexual partners to move around. The slow-moving foam in the Nectar Premier Hybrid means it’s not the best fit. The top layers have a lot of give, so you may sink in too far to easily change positions, and it lacks the necessary bounce.

Mattress Height

The Nectar Premier Hybrid is 13” tall. That’s a touch over the standard mattress height of 10 to 12”, but it’s not so tall that you’ll need deep-pocket sheets.

Price

At regular price, a queen-size Nectar Premier costs $1799.00. This is more expensive than other hybrid beds on the market, but don’t let the sticker shock get to you. With Mattress Clarity coupons, you can get a queen-size Nectar Premier mattress for less than $1,000.

Sleeping Position and Weight

The Nectar Premier Hybrid felt just okay when I tested it on my back. It might be too soft for some back sleepers. Larger people, in particular, are probably going to need something more supportive.

If you’re a side sleeper, on the other hand, you will probably feel fantastic on the Premier Hybrid. I sank perfectly into the thick layer of memory foam and felt almost no pressure on my hip and shoulder. Light and average-weight sleepers should have a similar experience, but those over 300 lbs might do best on a mattress made specifically for heavy people.

If you’re a stomach sleeper, you’re going to run into the same issue as back sleepers. I personally needed more support beneath my hips, which is typical for stomach sleepers—to maintain a neutral spine, it’s important to have a lot of pushback support to keep the hips properly elevated. Stomach sleepers usually do best on firmer mattresses, and this one is definitely on the soft side. Lightweight stomach sleepers may be okay, but average and heavyweight sleepers will definitely need something more firmer.

Heavyweight Tester – 6’7”, 270 lbs

“I’m a bigger guy, and I felt best while side sleeping on this mattress. The top layers were thick enough to relieve most of the pressure on my shoulders and hips.” – Marten

Average-weight Tester – 5’3”, 150 lbs

“I felt great when I rested on my back and side, but I didn’t get enough hip support when I slept on my stomach.” – Elisa

Lightweight Sleepers

Lightweight people should feel supported while back and side sleeping, thanks to the supportive coils and soft comfort layers. But I wouldn’t recommend this bed for lightweight stomach sleepers. People in this category will probably sink out of alignment and feel some pressure on their lower backs.

Nectar Premier Hybrid Construction

Now, let’s take a look at the materials and design of the Nectar Premier Hybrid for a better understanding of how it performs.

Cover

The mattress is topped with a soft, breathable cover that allows airflow through the top layers. It’s woven with cooling fibers that help pull away body heat. According to the brand, there are 60% more cooling fibers in the Nectar Premier Hybrid cover than the Classic Hybrid cover.

20241101 131454

Comfort Layers

Below the cover is a thick layer of memory foam. This is what gives the mattress its pressure relief and slow-moving feel.

The memory foam layer sits on top of the Responsive Support Layer, which adds a bit of bounce to the mattress and keeps you from sinking so far that you “bottom out.”

Support Layers

Toward the bottom of the mattress, you’ll find hundreds of individually-wrapped innerspring coils, which move independently for more targeted support. In addition to promoting airflow and minimizing heat retention, the coils help isolate motion.

The base is made from a 1” foam foundation that gives the layers above structure and stability.

How The Nectar Premier Hybrid Compares

It can be helpful to compare different mattress models to hone in on the best bed for your needs. Below, I’ll show how the Premier Hybrid stacks up to other Nectar models.

Nectar Premier Hybrid vs. Nectar Premier

The Nectar Premier is the all-foam version of the Premier Hybrid. It has a firmer feel, and while it’s made entirely of foam, it doesn’t allow for as much sinkage as the hybrid model. That makes it a good fit for back sleepers. It’s also a better choice for budget shoppers. Because it’s made without coils, the all-foam model is a little less expensive.

An image of Marten sitting on top of the Nectar Premier Mattress.

For side sleepers and those who prefer to sink deeply into their mattress, it’s worth spending the extra money for the Premier Hybrid. Hot sleepers should also find more relief on the hybrid model, which has the added benefit of airflow-promoting coils.

Take a look at my full Nectar Premier mattress review to learn more.

Nectar Premier Hybrid vs. Nectar Luxe Hybrid

The Luxe Hybrid is Nectar’s top-of-the-line model. It has a softer feel, so it’s a good match for side sleepers who need lots of pressure relief. Hot sleepers should also sleep cooler on this mattress, thanks to the extra cooling fibers woven into the cover.

A man sleeps on his side on the Nectar Luxe Hybrid

If you don’t overheat at night and you aren’t a dedicated side sleeper in search of supreme softness, you may want to opt for the cheaper Nectar Premier Hybrid.

For more information, read my Nectar Luxe Hybrid mattress review.

Nectar Premier Hybrid vs. Nectar Classic Hybrid

The Nectar Classic Hybrid is the brand’s base model. It’s firmer than the Premier Hybrid, and it doesn’t have as many cooling fibers woven into the cover. It’s also more affordable.

20240821 104108

Since it has a firmer feel, the Classic Hybrid is a better fit for back and stomach sleepers. If you sleep hot or snooze on your side, the Premier Hybrid is the best choice.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress

Is the Nectar Premier Hybrid a good mattress?

The Nectar Premier Hybrid is a good mattress because of its materials and construction, but whether or not it’s a good mattress for you really depends on your preferences. Because it’s softer with upgraded cooling, it’s a better mattress for side sleepers and hot sleepers. It also has a slow-moving foam feel, so fans of memory foam should like it as well. If you prefer a bouncy or firm mattress, or you sleep on your stomach, this isn’t the mattress for you.

Can you flip a Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress?

No. Like many modern mattresses, the Nectar Premier Hybrid has a distinct top and bottom so it isn’t designed to be flipped. But to help prolong its lifespan, you can rotate it every few months.

How long will a Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress last?

Between the hybrid construction and the material quality, the Nectar Premier Hybrid should last between 7 and 10 years without compromising support.
