Casper vs. Tempur-Cloud Mattress Video Comparison
Want to get up close and personal with these beds? Then watch our in-depth video review! Our reviewer, Marten, assesses each mattress’s construction and shares his experiences with sleeping on both the Tempur-Cloud and the all-foam Casper.Casper vs. Tempur-Cloud: Top Similarities
At first glance, these might seem like very different mattresses. But they actually have several factors in common.- They both come from popular and successful mattress companies
- The Tempur-Cloud mattress and Casper Original mattress come with great customer service terms
- These are both all-foam mattresses
- They both include memory foam somewhere in their construction
- Both mattresses utilize a supportive base foam
- Both beds should offer a balance of comfort and support that’s suitable for most back sleepers
Casper vs. Tempur-Cloud: Key Differences
The Tempur-Cloud and Casper mattresses are an interesting match-up because they possess both a lot of similarities and a number of notable differences. Here’s an overview of how these mattresses differ.- In our experience, the Tempur-Cloud mattress feels softer than the Casper
- The mattresses incorporate different materials in their top layers (The Tempur-Cloud uses memory foam, while the Casper features responsive polyfoam)
- The Casper features a Zoned Support system, while the Tempur-Cloud does not
- There are notable differences in how it feels to lie on each of these beds (More on that below!)
- The Tempur-Cloud costs more than the Casper
Firmness and Feel Differences (Including Firmness Rating)
When comparing multiple mattresses, the quickest way to eliminate options (and zero in on the best choices) is to consider their firmness and feel. Let’s take a closer look at the firmness rating and feel of the Tempur-Cloud and Casper. How Firm Are the Casper and Tempur-Cloud Mattresses?
We ranked the Casper around a 7/10 on the firmness scale, and we ranked the Tempur-Cloud around a 6/10. The industry standard for medium firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests that the Casper is a touch firmer than medium-firm while the Tempur-Cloud is a touch softer. That said, it’s important to note that firmness is a slightly subjective measurement. A person’s body weight can influence their perception of a bed’s firmness. For instance, heavier folks might find that a bed feels firmer than lighter-weight sleepers do.Sleeping on the Casper and Tempur-Cloud
Now, let’s take a look at how it feels to sleep on both of these mattresses:Casper
While back sleeping on the Casper, we felt really comfortable. The mattress provided enough support to keep the spine aligned, and we especially felt great lumbar support. At the same time, we enjoyed a touch of pressure relief around the hips. It is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers. We felt okay but not great while side sleeping on the Casper. We didn’t feel a ton of pressure relief in this position, but lighter-weight sleepers might feel more comfortable here. We felt a decent amount of support while stomach sleeping on the Casper. That said, folks who spend all night on their stomach will probably want to look for a firmer mattress overall. This will help ensure that their hips stay elevated and aligned with the spine all night long.Tempur-Cloud
We felt fantastic while back sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud. We slowly sink into the memory foam comfort layer to enjoy body contouring and pressure relief. Even better: This comfort didn’t come at the sacrifice of spinal alignment. While side sleeping on the Tempur-Cloud, we enjoyed great pressure relief. We felt very little pressure on the shoulder or hip, which are common hot spots for side sleepers. In our experience, the Tempur-Cloud feels too soft to provide adequate support while stomach sleeping. Stomach sleepers will want to look for a firmer mattress. What Do the Casper and Tempur-Cloud Mattresses Feel Like?
The all-foam Casper mattress has a bouncy, responsive foam feel. Because of its responsiveness, it’s easy to move around on top of this mattress. It also has a Zoned Support system that feels firmer near the middle of the mattress and softer around the head and foot of the bed. The Tempur-Cloud has a classic memory foam feel: Sleepers sink into the memory foam, which offers body contouring and pressure relief. This material has a slow response to pressure, which can make it a little harder to move around and switch positions. See our best memory foam mattresses for more like the Tempur-Cloud.Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
Average-weight back sleepers should find a balance of comfort and spinal support (and plenty of lumbar support) on the Casper. The Casper could feel okay to average-weight side sleepers, but it doesn’t offer a ton of pressure relief and might feel too firm for some people. It should provide adequate support for average-weight stomach sleepers, although folks who are closer to 230 pounds might prefer a more supportive mattress overall. The Tempur-Cloud is also a viable match for average-weight back sleepers, because it offers body contouring and pressure relief alongside spinal support. It should offer plenty of pressure relief to average-weight side sleepers, including around the shoulder and hip. The Tempur-Cloud probably won’t offer enough support for stomach sleepers.Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs
The Casper could be well suited to heavyweight back sleepers, who will find a combination of spinal support and some pressure relief. That said, folks who weigh over 300 pounds will probably need a more supportive mattress with coils. Heavyweight side sleepers might not feel enough pressure relief on the Casper, and they could experience pressure around the shoulder and hip. The firmer nature of the Casper means it could work for heavyweight stomach sleepers (although much heavier folks will probably want a more supportive mattress). Heavyweight back sleepers could find a decent mixture of support and pressure relief on the Tempur-Cloud, including plenty of body contouring. (Again, folks who weigh more than 300 pounds will probably want to seek out a mattress with coils.) The Tempur-Cloud should offer comfortable pressure relief to heavyweight side sleepers. It’s not supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers. See our best mattresses for heavy people to find options with more support.Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs
The Casper offers lightweight back sleepers a balance of comfort and support, with an extra emphasis on lumbar support. It could offer enough pressure relief to lightweight side sleepers who like a firmer feel, but folks who crave more body contouring will probably prefer the Tempur-Cloud. The Casper’s firmer nature makes it a better fit for lightweight stomach sleepers, who need a mattress that’s supportive enough to keep the hips elevated and aligned with the spine. Lightweight back sleepers should enjoy body contouring as well as support on the Tempur-Cloud. This memory foam mattress should provide lightweight side sleepers with plenty of pressure relief around the shoulder and hip. Because it’s softer than the Casper, the Tempur-Cloud isn’t the best match for stomach sleepers.Mattress Construction Differences
In the previous sections, we developed an understanding of what it feels like for different types of sleepers to lie on top of the Casper and Tempur-Cloud mattresses. Now, let’s get to know these mattresses even better by taking a look inside their constructions.Cover
The Casper features a very breathable cover that’s made from recycled bottles. The Tempur-Cloud’s 360-degree cover is very soft and breathable, which allows air to flow through the top of the mattress.Comfort Layers
The Casper’s top layer features the brand’s proprietary Airscape foam. This foam is perforated to allow for airflow, and it’s relatively breathable compared to more conventional foams. This layer is quite plush but also responsive. Beneath the Airscape foam layer is the Casper’s most distinctive feature: its Zoned Support system. It’s comprised of a layer of memory foam that includes multiple pieces, which make the center firmer than the head and foot of the mattress. The idea is to make sure the mattress feels supportive enough for the hips and spine (especially while back and stomach sleeping) while offering more pressure relief around the shoulders (especially while side sleeping). The Tempur-Cloud’s first comfort layer is a Tempur Comfort layer made from classic TEMPUR® memory foam material. It’s soft and body contouring, and it allows sleepers to slowly sink into the mattress. Beneath this layer, there’s a Tempur Support transition layer made from a firmer material that helps transition the sleeper from the softer comfort layer above to the firmer support layer beneath.Support Layer
The Casper’s support layer is made from a supportive base foam that provides structure for the mattress as a whole. Much like the Casper, the Tempur-Cloud’s base layer is made from a firmer foam. This layer is both supportive and durable.Mattress Height
The Casper is 11″ thick, while the Tempur-Cloud is just a touch shorter at 10″ thick.Casper vs. Tempur-Cloud Mattress Size Options and Price

Casper vs. Tempur-Cloud Performance Differences
With a solid understanding of the Casper’s and Tempur-Cloud’s constructions under our belt, we can start to tease out the differences in these beds’ performance. We put each mattress through a range of tests to evaluate edge support, motion transfer, temperature regulation, and more. Let’s see how they stack up!Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Casper takes the win here. Its Airscape foam is more breathable than conventional foams, which allows air to move through the top layers of the mattress. In contrast, the Tempur-Cloud’s unperforated memory foam might trap some heat.Motion Transfer
The Tempur-Cloud is the clear winner here. Its slow-moving memory foam absorbs motion and has a slow response to pressure, effectively minimizing the transfer of motion across the bed. This could make it a great mattress for couples. Because the Casper is bouncier, it doesn’t absorb motion as well.Edge Support
We felt more secure while sitting and lying down near the edges on the Tempur-Cloud, so we’re giving it the win.Durability
The Tempur-Cloud secures another win. It’s made from super high-density foam, which should not sag.Off-Gassing
We observed some off-gassing from both mattresses, but this should dissipate within approximately 48 hours.Noise
We called this a tie. We didn’t observe any notable noise from either mattress.Sex
When people seek out a mattress for sex, they’re usually looking for a bed that makes it easy to move around. Based on that criterion, the Casper is the clear winner here. It’s bouncier and more responsive than the Tempur-Cloud, so it’s easier to change positions on top of the mattress.Warranty Info
These mattresses feature similar warranties and terms. The Casper comes with a 10-year warranty and a 100-night sleep trial, while the Tempur-Cloud comes with a 10-year warranty and a 90-day sleep trial.Other Models from Casper and Tempur-Pedic
So, we have been specifically discussing the Casper Original and Tempur-Pedic mattresses, but both companies offer many other models. Let’s briefly discuss the other models from Casper and Tempur-Pedic and see how they generally compare to one another. Besides the Tempur-Cloud, Tempur-Pedic also offers numerous lines, including the TEMPUR-Adapt, TEMPUR-ProAdapt, TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, TEMPUR-Probreeze, and TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze. They range in terms of price and the specific layers they contain and the Breeze mattresses are also designed to keep sleepers cool at night. Some models are also available as hybrids. One thing they all have in common is their inclusion of TEMPUR-material! This gives all of the Tempur-Pedic mattresses a similar slow-moving feel that is oh-so-comfortable. Besides the Casper Original, the company offers the Casper Element, Casper Hybrid, Casper Nova Hybrid, and Casper Wave Hybrid. The Element is their most affordable mattress and has a very streamlined design. The Casper Hybrid basically adds coils to the construction of the Casper Original mattress. The Casper Nova Hybrid and Casper Wave Hybrid are the most high-end mattresses and features coils and more advanced zoning. All the Casper mattresses feature similar responsive foam right on top of the mattress. This gives them all a more responsive, balanced foam feel. Also, except for the Element, all the Casper mattresses feature zoning that makes them more supportive or more pressure-relieving in different areas. The main difference between the Casper and Tempur-Pedic mattresses is going to be feel. Casper mattresses are more responsive and make it easier to move around, and the Tempur-Pedic mattresses are much slower moving. Speaking of price, the Tempur-Pedic line of mattresses does cost more than the Casper mattresses.Casper and Tempur-Cloud Mattress FAQs
