The Nectar Premier is an upgraded version of the Nectar mattress, and the brand is known for producing quality bed-in-a-box mattresses. I’ve tested and enjoyed the brand’s other models, so I was excited to take the Nectar Premier for a test spin.

I recommend the Nectar Premier for…
- Side sleepers. The all-foam construction of this bed offers the pressure relief side sleepers need.
- Combination sleepers. It’s going to work well for most back and side sleepers because of its medium-firm feel.
- Budget-minded shoppers. This bed is often discounted throughout the year, making a queen under $1,000 if you’re shopping at the right time.
I don’t recommend the Nectar Premier for…
- Stomach sleepers. This bed is too soft and won’t offer the necessary support to keep hips elevated and spines in a proper alignment.
- Fans of traditional memory foam. As mentioned, you’ll sleep more “on top” of the Nectar Premier. If you prefer something more soft and slow-moving, be sure to check out my best memory foam mattresses list.
- Heavyweight sleepers (people over 230 lbs). While this bed is medium-firm, some heavyweight individuals might want something that can support their weight better.
Nectar Premier Mattress Test Performance: My Overall Thoughts
After all my tests, I tallied up my scores, and the Nectar Premier earned an average score of 4.3/5. It’s certainly a high-quality mattress, and I found it offered above average support and motion transfer. Nectar’s trial period and warranty both earned perfect 5/5 scores. Keep reading to see my full breakdown of each score.
Nectar Premier Mattress Performance
Support: 4/5
When I test for support, I’m looking for how supported I felt in each sleeping position. On the Nectar Premier, I felt really great on my back. The foam transition layer on top of the support layer offered a lot of support, but the topmost layer of foam still provided good body contouring and comfort.
On my side, I also felt OK here. Initially, I noticed virtually no pressure along my hips and shoulders. However, as time went on, there was some pressure that began to creep along my shoulders and hips. On my stomach, however, I felt my hips sinking into the mattress, which caused some strain on my lower back. Because of this, I rated support a 4/5.
Edge Support: 4/5
Edge support refers to how secure I felt while resting or sitting on the edge of the Nectar Premier mattress. I test this out because it’s an important consideration for couples. Beds with good edge support mean you can use the full surface of the bed and won’t have to gravitate towards the middle of the bed.
For an all-foam mattress, I thought the Nectar Premier had some solid edge support. Whether I was sitting or resting on my side, I felt fairly secure. To really show how this test works, I also got my tape measure out. I set it against the edge and then sat down and measured how much the bed sank.
It sank about 4”, which is mostly the comfort layer anyway. So that support layer was doing its job. However, I’ve definitely tested beds with better edge support, so the Premier didn’t earn a perfect 5/5 score. Instead, I gave it a 4/5.
Cooling: 4/5
It’s easy for brands to say their beds have been optimized for cooling, but you won’t know how cool a bed sleeps until it’s in your room. When it comes to the Nectar Premier, I personally didn’t feel too hot, but I wanted to put some numbers to this. So, I pulled out my thermal gun and got to work.
I started with testing the surface of the bed at room temperature for a while. My thermal gun read 69.2 F. From there, I got into bed for about five minutes. I got up out of the bed, and then tested the surface once again. My thermal gun read 75.1 F. So, a little over five degrees difference. For an all-foam bed, that’s pretty good, and a five degree difference is pretty standard from my tests using the thermal gun.
I will say, I was a little surprised. The only cooling innovation in the Premier is that it has cooling fibers worked into the cover. With the cover doing all the cooling work here, I was impressed with this temperature difference. However, because of the fact that the cooling starts and ends with the cover, I rated cooling just above average.
Motion Transfer: 4.5/5
Being an all-foam bed, the Nectar Premier has a leg up on other beds when it comes to motion transfer. When I talk about motion transfer, I just mean how well the bed absorbs motion to prevent disturbances. This is important for couples, especially if one partner is a light sleeper.
I test motion transfer in two ways: I test it out with another person and with a glass of water. The first test is the most true-to-life test, so let’s start there. I got in on one side of the bed and my co-worker, Tony, got in on the other. He rolled around, changed positions, and then got out of bed. And I didn’t really notice much of his motion move over to my side of the bed.
The water glass test is more of a visual test. I filled a glass of water and placed it in the center of the mattress. Then I began pressing my hands in the area around the glass, starting from the edge and working my way closer. I barely noticed any ripples in the water from the edge, but it naturally got more disturbed the closer I got to the glass. Because of this, I rated motion transfer just nearly perfect.
Response: 3.5/5
Beds with high response scores mean that they’re easy to move around on. The Nectar Premier has a fairly decent response. It’s OK to move around on, despite being an all-foam bed, but it doesn’t have any bounce to it. Once you get into bed, or in some cases flop into bed, there’s not any bounce to it.
I found it easier than other foam beds to change positions and get in and out of bed. However, those with mobility issues may find it a bit harder. And it’s that lack of coils in the support layer that keep me from giving this bed a higher response score. Because of that, I rated the response just slightly above average.
Durability: 4/5
Full transparency, I don’t have a way to simulate several years of wear and tear on a bed (yet). So when it comes to durability, I have to look at the construction of the bed. I also take into consideration the warranty for this score, too.
Overall, I’d say the Premier is going to last you anywhere from seven to 10 years, which is fairly standard for an all-foam bed. The Nectar Premier is backed by a lifetime warranty, but if you’re sleeping on it every day, I don’t expect it to last longer than a decade. Because I expect the Premier to last about as long as any other bed, I rated durability fairly standard.
Nectar Premier Mattress Company Policies
Trial Period: 5/5
Nectar offers a 365-day trial period for the Nectar Premier mattress. Because you’ll have a full year to test the bed out, I’m giving this a perfect score, as this is plenty of time to decide if the Nectar Premier is right for you.
I should note, however, that Nectar mentions you’ll have to test the bed out for a minimum of 30 days before issuing a return or exchange. This is because everyone will need an adjustment period going from one bed to another, especially if you’re replacing a bed that’s several years old. If, on day 31, you decide that you don’t like the Nectar Premier, you can issue a return and get a full refund..
Nectar offers free shipping on all orders, including returns.
Warranty: 5/5
Nectar offers something called a “forever warranty” on all its mattresses. The warranty covers manufacturing defects, or noticeable damage that is not the result of wear and tear or intentional damage (which would void your warranty). If you file a warranty claim with Nectar and it is approved, Nectar will replace or repair your mattress free of charge.
For more information, and a full breakdown of the warranty, be sure to check out Nectar’s warranty page.
Nectar Premier Mattress – Other Factors to Consider
Two-Hour Nap
No mattress test is complete without a nap. I grabbed some pillows and a blanket and settled in. One thing that I really like about the Premier is that it is fairly easy to move around on. I never felt stuck, and during my nap, I found myself switching between my back and my side.
I’d say that the Premier really shines for back sleeping, as I felt the most comfortable here. I wasn’t totally uncomfortable on my side, but after some time, there was a small bit of pressure built up. This caused me to move over to my back, but again, it was easy enough to do so on this bed.
And despite the fact that there’s only a cooling cover working to keep me cool, I never felt like I was going to overheat. Let me be clear though, if you live in a hot climate or just run hot all the time, I’d suggest looking at my best cooling mattresses list for a better fit. However, for the average person, this bed shouldn’t sleep terribly hot.
Off-Gassing
The Nectar Premier is a bed-in-a-box mattress, so when you remove the packaging, the bed will need time to expand. There may also be a slight chemical smell to the bed. This is only a result of the compression process, but those with sensitive noses may want to let the bed off-gas in a well-ventilated area. I observed a slight smell when I unboxed the Nectar Premier, but this dissipated after about 24 hours.
Noise
Light sleepers usually notice all things that go bump in the night, including squeaky coils. But because the Nectar Premier is an all-foam bed, I didn’t notice this bed making any noise during my tests.
Sex
The best mattresses for sex are those that are bouncy, responsive, and overall easy to move around on. The Nectar Premier scored fairly well in my responsiveness test, especially when compared to other all-foam beds. While I wouldn’t say this is the best bed for sex, it should still be fairly easy to move around on.
Mattress Height
The Nectar Premier is 13” thick, making it just a bit taller than your average mattress, which is around 10”-12” tall.
Sleeping Position and Weight
Overall, the Nectar Premier works well for back sleepers of all body types. The thick, high-density foam at the bottom of the bed works to keep sleepers from bottoming out of the bed. And the softer layers of foam offer some really good body contouring that make it ideal for back sleepers.
Things start to change for side sleepers. Lightweight side sleepers should really feel the soft foams cradling their pressure points. Average-weight side sleepers should feel pretty good on the Nectar Premier, but those who weigh closer to 230 lbs could start to feel a bit of pressure along their shoulders and hips.
Heavier side sleepers may not like Nectar Premier, especially those who weigh closer to 300 lbs. People in this weight category will compress the top layers a bit and feel more of the dense foam underneath. This could put some pressure on joints. Take a look at my list of the best mattresses for heavy people for some better options.
Unless you’re a lightweight person, I don’t recommend this bed for stomach sleepers.. Lightweight stomach sleepers won’t compress the top layer too much, so they should still get the hip support they need. However, average-weight and heavyweight sleepers will compress the bed a lot more and could feel their hips sinking out of alignment. This can put strain on the low back and cause pain. Be sure to read my list of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers if you fall into this category.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (130 lbs or under) | Excellent | Good | Fair |
Average-weight (130 to 230 lbs) | Good | Good | Poor |
Heavyweight (230 lbs and up) | Good | Fair | Poor |
Heavyweight Tester – 6’7”, 270 lbs
“I really liked the Premier for back sleeping. I felt supported, and its medium-firmness is perfect for this position. I felt OK on my side, but I’d only recommend the Premier for quick naps. I’d be worried about pressure building up in hips and shoulders for strict side sleepers with my build.” – Marten
Average Weight Tester – 5’3”, 150 lbs
“Overall, I felt really good resting on the Nectar Premier. I’m a back and side combination sleeper, and I felt really comfortable in both positions. I did feel my hips sink in when I moved on to my stomach, however.” – Elisa
Nectar Premier Mattress Construction
Let’s take a look at the materials Nectar uses to construct the Premier mattress.
Cover
Nectar uses a polyester blend material in the outer cover. It has an antimicrobial treatment to fight the buildup of mildew and bacteria. Nectar mentions it’s designed specifically for cooling, using cooling fibers to dissipate heat.
Comfort Layers
There are two main comfort layers. First, there’s a 2” layer of a soft memory foam that rests on top of a 3” layer of more supportive foam. These two layers work together to offer pressure relief and support, giving the bed a balanced foam feel.
Support Layers
At the bottom of the mattress is a 8” support layer made of high-density foam. This gives the bed its stability and helps absorb motion.
How to Try and Buy the Nectar Premier Mattress
Nectar is an online mattress brand. However, they do have a few showrooms throughout the United States. If you live near one, you can try one out. If not, you’ll have to order the mattress online. Because of this, Nectar offers a substantial 365-day trial period. This gives you a whole year of an in-home trial to see if you love the bed or not.

Nectar Premier vs Nectar Mattress
If you’re looking at the Nectar Premier, you probably want to know how it compares to the Nectar Classic mattress. What does the Nectar Premier offer that the Nectar Classic doesn’t?
First off, the Nectar Premier is taller than the Nectar Classic mattress and features more memory foam on top. This makes the Nectar Premier feel a bit softer than the Nectar Classic, and will offer a bit more pressure relief than the Classic.
Nectar uses more cooling fibers in the Premier’s cover, making it a bit cooler than the Classic. Because of this extra feature and the thicker layer of foam, the Premier is a bit more expensive than the Classic mattress.
If you want to see a full breakdown on this bed, be sure to read my Nectar Classic mattress review.
Nectar vs DreamCloud
These mattresses differ thanks to their distinct constructions. While the Nectar Premier is an all-foam mattress, the DreamCloud is a hybrid bed that layers soft memory foam over individually-wrapped coils.
These beds also differ when it comes to firmness. I ranked the Nectar Premier around 6.5/10, or a perfect medium-firm. The DreamCloud is notably firmer at 7.5/10, which is firmer-than-average.
Given that these beds are constructed differently, it probably won’t come as a shock that they feel different. The Nectar Premier has a balanced foam feel that pairs body contouring with support, while the DreamCloud has a more responsive hybrid feel thanks to its coils. If this sounds like it’s more your speed, then be sure to check out my DreamCloud mattress review for all the details.
Nectar vs Helix Midnight
The Helix Midnight is a very popular model from Helix. Just like the Nectar Premier, it’s a medium-firm bed. But the biggest difference between these beds is the construction. The Nectar Premier is an all-foam mattress, while the Midnight is a hybrid.
This means that the Midnight has coils in its support layer, giving the bed a bouncy feel, which in turn makes it more responsive and easier to move on when compared to the Nectar Premier. I found that the Premier isn’t hard to move around on, but I can’t deny that bouncy beds are just the easiest type of bed to move on.
The Midnight mattress sleeps cooler than the Nectar. I never felt hot on the Nectar Premier, but the only cooling feature it has is its cover. Air has a much easier time flowing through the coils in the Midnight, and you can also opt for a specialized cooling pillow top on the Midnight.
Be sure to read my Helix Midnight mattress review for more information.
Netar Premier Mattress FAQs
Is the Nectar Premier a good mattress?
The Nectar Premier is a quality all-foam mattress that should last for at least 10 years. Of course, just because this is a good mattress, that doesn’t mean it will appeal to every type of sleeper. It’s best suited to side sleepers, hot sleepers who like the feel of foam, and people who enjoy a balanced foam feel.
Can you flip the Nectar Premier mattress?
No, you cannot flip the Nectar Premier mattress. Doing so would result in sleeping on the firm support layer instead of the softer comfort layers.
How long will the Nectar Premier mattress last?
The Nectar Premier is a durable all-foam mattress. Given proper care, expect it to last for at around 7-10 years.
Does the Nectar Premier mattress require a box spring?
The short answer is no. You can use a box spring with the Nectar Premier but, according to the company, it is not required.
