Studio By Leesa Mattress Overview
Since 2015, the original Leesa mattress has been a major play on the bed in a box scene. While its design has changed slightly since then, it has always promised soft comfort and a balanced foam feel. Over the years, the company has added more mattresses to its line, such as the Leesa Hybrid and Leesa Legend.
The Studio by Leesa is their newest model, and it is advertised as a high-quality mattress that is sold for a value price. We would agree with this sentiment and, while it might not work for larger people and those who need more support, many people should sleep comfortably on the Studio by Leesa.
Who Might Like The Studio By Leesa
- Lightweight adults, children, and teens who don’t have too many support needs

Studio By Leesa Firmness And Feel
Firmness and feel are two of the major considerations when shopping for a mattress. Keep reading to see how firm the Studio by Leesa mattress is and how it really feels.
How Firm Is The Studio By Leesa?
In our experience, the Studio by Leesa feels like a 7.5/10 and is firmer-than-average. The top memory foam layer is very soft but is not very thick, so we are interacting with the support layer quite a bit. However, as we will discuss below, the firmness. of the Studio will really depend on the weight of the person sleeping on it.
Sleeping On The Studio By Leesa
Back sleeping on the Studio mattress, we are getting a decent balance of comfort and support. The top layer of memory foam lets the hips and butt sink in, but the transition layer and support layer keep them from sinking in too far. The memory foam on top is also providing a good deal of contouring.
Side sleeping, we are feeling some significant pressure on our shoulders and hips. As we will discuss below, this might be different for much lighter side sleepers, but we did not feel very comfortable in this position.
Stomach sleeping, the Studio by Leesa is a decent match – it is a firmer mattress and the comfort layer is not extremely thick. However, those who sleep just on their stomach might want to find a mattress that is firmer and more supportive than the Studio.
What Does The Studio By Leesa Feel Like?
There is a thin layer of memory foam that gives the top of the Studio a somewhat slow-moving feel. However, the transition layer exhibits a good bit of bounce so, combined with the base layer, the Studio by Leesa has a balanced foam feel. It lets sleepers sink in just a bit, but they should not feel stuck or have issues moving around on the mattress.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
Average weight back sleepers who are closer to 130 lbs should think the Studio is a great match for back sleeping. However, those who are closer to 230 lbs, might need more support from a hybrid or innerspring mattress. Average weight side sleepers might need to find a mattress with a thicker comfort layer, and they could feel some significant pressure on their shoulders and hips. Stomach sleepers who are at the lower end or middle of this weight range should get all the support they need under their hips.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs
Those who are looking for the best mattress for heavy people probably won’t like the Studio by Leesa in any position. Back sleeping, they will need more support than the base foam has to offer and, side sleeping, they will bottom out and feel a great deal of pressure on their shoulders and hips. Stomach sleeping, they will also need more support under their hips.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs
The Studio by Leesa is really made with lightweight people in mind – they should feel supported when they are back and stomach sleeping and comfortable when they are side sleeping. Check out with our best mattresses for lightweight sleepers.

On the bottom, a 7″ layer of base foam offers firmer support.

Studio By Leesa Mattress Performance
When we received the Studio by Leesa mattress, we put it through a number of tests. Keep reading to find out if we gave the mattress high marks.
Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The Studio by Leesa is an all-foam mattress so it will undoubtedly trap some heat. At the same time, it features a breathable cover and open-celled foams that should keep sleepers from overheating too much.
Motion Transfer
Those who want the best mattress for couples need to find something that handles motion transfer well. Memory foam is one of the best materials when it comes to cutting down on motion transfer, and the Studio by Leesa has a layer right on top. However, it is not an extremely thick, layer and we are seeing just a bit of motion transfer during our tests. Couples should keep this in mind if they are considering the Studio by Leesa mattress.
Edge Support
Sitting down near the edge of the Studio by Leesa, we do feel secure enough to lean forward and tie our shoes. However, when we lie down near the edge of the Studio, we feel the mattress collapsing, and it is possible we could roll off the mattress. Couples and those who want to utilize the full surface area of their mattress might need to find something with more solid edge support.
Durability
The Studio by Leesa is a simple, streamlined all-foam mattress that does not feature coils or extremely durable materials. Based on this information, we see the Studio lasting for between five and seven years.
Off-gassing
The Studio by Leesa is a bed in a box mattress, so we did expect some initial off-gassing after unboxing. The mattress did emit a slight chemical smell but, after we left the mattress in a well-ventilated room for 48 hours, the scent did dissipate.
Noise
When we moved around on the Studio by Leesa mattress, we did not hear any significant noises. This is an all-foam mattress, and this type is generally more silent than hybrid or innerspring mattresses.
Sex
This mattress features more of a slow-moving memory foam feel, and this does not make it too easy to move around. This might make it difficult for couples to reposition and move around during those intimate moments. Those who want a mattress for sex might want to find a responsive option that exhibits more bounce.

How Does The Studio By Leesa Compare To Other Mattresses?
It’s always a good idea to do some comparison shopping when looking for a new mattress. Let’s take a look at how the Studio by Leesa compares to competitors and the original Leesa mattress.
Studio By Leesa Vs Casper Element
Both the Studio by Leesa and Casper Element mattresses are more affordable, streamlined mattresses from reputable companies. While they are both basic mattresses and a good match for lightweight people, their other differences make them a better match for different types of sleepers.
In our experience, the Studio by Leesa was softer than the Casper Element and also featured more of a slow-moving memory foam feel. Considering these two points, the Studio by Leesa might be the better option for side sleepers. The Casper Element, on the other hand, might work better for stomach sleepers and those who prefer a balanced foam feel.
At full price, a Queen size Casper Element is also a few hundred dollars less than the Queen size Studio by Leesa mattress. This makes the Casper Element a good option for those who want to spend as little money as possible for their child, teenager, or lightweight adult.
Studio By Leesa Vs Original Leesa
Anyone considering the Studio Leesa mattress might want to know how it compares to the original Leesa mattress. First off, there are some construction and material differences – the Studio by Leesa features memory foam, transition foam, and base foam, while the original Leesa contains a proprietary LSA200 foam, memory foam, and base foam.
This LSA200 foam gives the original Leesa a different feel than the Studio Leesa mattress. It is more responsive than standard memory foam and provides the Leesa with a balanced foam feel. By comparison, the Studio by Leesa features more of that slow-moving, classic memory foam feel.
There are, of course, price differences between the two mattresses, and the Studio costs about $200 less for a Queen size. This makes the Studio by Leesa a better choice for those who want to save money, lightweight sleepers, and those who prefer more of that slow-moving memory foam feel. Looking at the Leesa, it is a better option for average-weight adults, side sleepers, and those who want a more substantial, durable mattress.
