Coleman Air Mattress Overview

Coleman was founded way back in 1900 and, since then, it has been known for making all things camping – lanterns, sleeping bags, camp stoves, etc. One of its major products is air mattresses, and their models range from small air mattresses for child campers all the way up to more substantial options for long-term indoor use.

The Coleman Double High Support Rest is somewhere in the middle and is intended for both indoor and outdoor use. Its taller construction makes it a good mattress for a guest room, but its thick PVC also makes it a good fit for a tent.

Coleman Air Mattress Performance

Let’s take a closer look at how well the Coleman Double High Support Rest air mattress performed during our time with it. We will talk about how it felt to lie on the air mattress, what it was like to inflate it, and other aspects.

Inflation

This is the first thing we consider when we are putting an air mattress to the test – how fast does it inflate and how easy is it to do so? The Coleman Double High Support Rest does not come with a built-in air pump, and an external air pump is not included in the box, but the company recommends using a Coleman 120V or rechargeable pump to inflate the air mattress.

We did not have a large pump on hand and had to use a standard rechargeable pump. This is a taller, more substantial air mattress, so it took over 20 minutes to fully inflate the mattress and, what’s more, we had to recharge the pump halfway through the inflation process.

Sleeping On The Coleman Air Mattress

First off, lying on top of the air mattress, we feel very secure because of the raised edges. Rolling off of air mattresses is a common issue for some people, but we did not have this problem on the Coleman Double High Support Rest.

Lying on our backs, the Coleman is properly supportive and does not seem to dip down too much in the middle, and we can definitely feel the support structures within as they hold up our bodies. Even Marten, who weighs 250 lbs, feels well supported while back sleeping on the Coleman air mattress.

Coleman Air Mattress - Back Sleeping

Side sleeping on the Coleman air mattress, of course, there is going to be some pressure on the shoulders and hips. That being said, it is not extremely uncomfortable side sleeping on the Coleman and, paired with some plush bedding or sleep bag, it could be a good fit for some.

Stomach sleeping on the Coleman, the mattress is not quite supportive enough and, even with the support structures inside, we can feel our hips bowing into the mattress.

Durability

We did not personally have any issues with air leakage while we were testing out the Coleman. That being said, some reviews we read complained that the air mattress began to leak air after only a few weeks, so this is worth keeping in mind.

Warranty Info

The Coleman Double High Support Rest air mattress comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

Coleman Air Mattress Construction

Now, let’s discuss just exactly what the Coleman Double High Support Rest model is made of and how it is constructed. We’ll look outside and inside to find out just how it works and what makes it so special.

Materials

This Coleman is made of PVC, which is a pretty standard material found in air mattresses. According to the company, it is lab-tested to make sure it is leak-free.

Design

The Coleman Double High Support Rest is a substantial air mattress that is 18″ tall and features ridges along the side where the air mattress will catch and hold the elastic of fitted sheets. On top, the PVC is covered with a soft flocking to keep the mattress from squeaking too much when sleepers move around.

Coleman Air Mattress - Construction

Internal Construction

Inside the Coleman, there is something called a Support Lock system, a support structure that provides even support across the entire air mattress so that it does not dip down too much in any area.

Air Valve

The Coleman Double High Support Rest air mattress features a proprietary Double Lock Valve at the far end. It is a two-stage valve that is meant to keep unwanted air from escaping – sleepers need to pull the valve out and then take out the plug in order to inflate or deflate the Coleman.

Pump

Some Coleman air mattresses come with a pump included, but the Double High Support Rest does not. The company recommends using its 120V or rechargeable air pump to inflate the air mattress.
