My Yogabed Review

Yogabed created an interesting mattress with their own proprietary foam.  The company is run by veterans in the mattress industry (which typically means they know what people like and have connections to the best manufacturers), so I was excited to try it out and provide a thorough Yogabed review.

Generally I really liked the YogaBed, and they have recently made some improvements that will make it even better.  Read on to see if the Yogasleep Yogabed mattress is the right fit for you.

Who Should Be Interested in Yogabed?

  • You Like a Responsive/Springy Feel: The instant response foam that represents the top layer of the Yogabed was designed to be very responsive.  That means it doesn’t react slowly like memory foam tends to do.  It is definitely springier than the average mattress.
  • You Want a Slightly Firmer Than Average Feel: The bed was constructed to meet the majority of people who want a medium firm feel.  They achieved that in my opinion.  I think the majority of people would like the firmness of this mattress.
  • You Don’t Like Sleeping Hot: The YogaGel layer was designed specifically in part to keep the mattress cool.  My experience was definitely great in this regard.  I didn’t notice the mattress getting hot at all. They have also added an Under Armour-like temperature regulating fabric to their cover, which will be an extra step to keep you sleeping cool.
  • You Are Seeking a Good Value: A Yogabed queen is currently priced at $799.  They do offer a $50 coupon normally as well.  With your purchase, you get free shipping and two free Yogabed pillows.  The price is less than similar online competitors, and you get a bonus thrown in as well.  The value of the Yogabed is about as good as you can find for what you get.

Who Might Not Want the Yogabed?

  • You Prefer the Traditional Innerspring Mattress Feel: A decent sized portion of the population still prefers a traditional innerspring mattress.  That is not what you get from Yogabed. Take a look at our best innerspring mattresses if you prefer this feel.
  • You Prefer a Memory Foam-Specific Feel: If you are used to a memory foam feel and like it a lot, Yogabed will feel slightly different.  It still offers the contouring and support, but it’s a little springier than memory foam, avoiding the “sinking in” feeling.

Other Takeaways

  • Cover: The cover is very easy to unzip, remove, and wash.  It’s a pretty cool add-on to the design, and it makes it so you can keep the mattress clean very easily.  They also recently added an Under Armour-like temperature regulating fabric to help you keep sleeping cool.
  • Off-Gassing: There is a bit of off-gassing.  It doesn’t go away fully until a few days have passed.  Just something to note.
  • Motion Transfer: Motion transfer is fairly minimal, which pleasantly surprised me given the springiness of the mattress.

Return Policy

YogaBed offers a 101 night return policy (most likely because some other online mattress companies had a 100 night return policy).  This is a great deal that I’ve only seen from a few online-only mattress companies, where you can return the mattress for a full refund within 101 nights of purchase.  This means you can try the mattress out beforehand and really know if it’s going to be a fit for the next 5-10 years.  So if you’re on the fence, I would say it’s really not such a risk to buy and make sure you like it.

Price and Business Model

Yogabed sells only through its website, thus cutting out a lot of costs typically associated with selling a mattress. No salesman, retail stores, etc. So they do offer a great value for the specs of the mattress compared to many of the big name brands.

Overall I liked the Yogabed, but wasn’t as impressed by the construction or feel as I expected I would be.  It has a specific feel that it is going for that I think some people may prefer.  It’s not my favorite mattress I’ve reviewed, but it does offer a good value.
