I Recommend The Awara Natural For…
- Hot sleepers. Latex and coils make this a great fit for people who tend to run hot at night. Latex is a temperature neutral material, and coils promote airflow.
- Stomach sleepers. This mattress is much firmer than average, so it works well for most stomach sleepers.
- Fans of bouncy mattresses. If you like a bit of bounce in a mattress, this is a great fit. Combination sleepers will find it very easy to change sleeping positions.
I Don’t Recommend The Awara Natural For…
- Fans of soft mattresses. The Awara is quite firm, so it’s not a good match if you prefer a soft mattress that offers lots of body contouring.
- Side sleepers. This bed doesn’t offer a lot of cushioning, so side sleepers might feel some pressure along their shoulders and hips. Take a look at my list of the best mattresses for side sleepers for some better options.

How Firm is the Awara Mattress?
In my testing, I found the Awara Natural much firmer than average. The top layers have a lot of give and the overall sensation was of sleeping “on top” on the mattress instead of sinking into it, so I scored it an 8/10. For reference, 1/10 is considered “cotton candy soft” and 10/10 feels like you’re sleeping on concrete. The industry standard for medium-firm mattresses is 6.5/10, and the Awara is significantly firmer than that.

Overall, the Awara scored 4.4/5, with particularly high scores in support, edge support, and durability.

Awara Natural Performance in Our Tests
Support – 4.5/5
I tested the Awara’s support by napping on my side, back, and stomach, and it received a close to perfect score. It’s a firmer, more supportive mattress that should work well for most back and stomach sleepers.
Lightweight people and side sleepers might find this mattress too firm, so I docked its support score a half point.
Edge Support – 4.5/5
For couples or anyone with mobility issues, edge support is an important feature. I used a tape measure to assess how far the mattress sagged when I sat near the edge. The Awara only collapsed 2.5”, which is very good.
I felt very comfortable and supported when I sat along the side, so if you’re the type to sit on the bed while you put on your shoes and socks, this is a great mattress for the job. When I tested the edge of the mattress by lying near the side, it felt similarly stable and secure. For couples looking to maximize the sleep surface or those who really like to stretch out, the Awara is a good choice.
Cooling – 4/5
Between the natural latex and the hybrid construction, the Awara isn’t designed to hold onto heat. After a test nap, I didn’t find myself overheated or sweaty.
I also used a thermal gun to measure heat retention after five minutes of lying on the mattress. Before I lay down, the mattress was 73.2 F. After five minutes, it had warmed to 81.6 F, which is an 8.3 degree increase. While this isn’t as impressive as other cooling mattresses I’ve reviewed, it’s reasonable and worthy of a score of 4/5.
Motion Transfer – 3/5
Motion transfer is another important consideration for couples or anyone who shares their bed with a pet. A mattress that doesn’t isolate motion well transfers movement across the surface, which can be really disruptive.
To test the Awara’s ability to dampen motion, I placed a full glass of water on the bed and repeatedly pressed into the mattress to see how much the water moved. The movement disrupted the water quite a bit, which is to be expected in a latex mattress. It’s not a material that absorbs motion well.
I also tested motion isolation with a coworker. I rested on one side of the mattress while my coworker moved around on the other side, energetically changing positions and climbing in and out of bed. I felt the movement on my side of the bed, so light sleepers who share their bed with restless partners should take note. Foam mattresses tend to be better picks if you’re in search of a mattress for couples.
Response – 5/5
When I describe responsiveness in a mattress, it’s a reference to how bouncy it feels. Mattresses that respond quickly have a bouncier feel, and the surface snaps back into place under the absence of pressure. Memory foam mattresses, for instance, have a slow-moving foam feel and the material can take time to shift back into place when you move.
Latex is a responsive material, and the Awara Natural has a very bouncy feel. When I dropped a ball on the bed, it bounced high. I had no trouble shifting position on the mattress and it was easy to roll around, so combination sleepers will fare well. The quick response time and buoyancy also make it a great mattress for sex — there’s no sensation of getting “stuck.”
Durability – 4.5/5
Among its other characteristics, latex is a resilient, durable material. Between this and the coil layer, which also adds durability, it’s reasonable to expect the Awara Natural to perform well over the years. While it’s impossible to predict how long a mattress will last, the materials and construction in the Awara will outperform many all-foam mattresses. It should easily last seven years and up to 10 if you rotate and clean it regularly.

The Awara Natural comes with a 365-night sleep trial, which is longer than many bed-in-a-box brands. The industry average is 100 nights. If you decide the Awara doesn’t meet your needs, the company asks that you contact their Sleep Concierge to coordinate the most convenient way to have your mattress donated or disposed of locally. You’ll be refunded in full.
It’s important to note that the company requires you to test out the mattress for 30 days before issuing a return. That’s because it often takes people several weeks to get used to a new mattress, and the company wants to ensure customers give the Awara a fair shot before changing their minds.
Warranty – Score 5/5
Awara offers a Forever Warranty, which covers the mattress for the entire time you own it. If the mattress incurs damages from normal use, Awara will replace it at no cost to you. Keep in mind that the warranty is non-transferable and applies to the original owner only.
Awara Natural – Other Factors To Consider
In addition to performance metrics, I also consider factors that can influence the mattress-buying experience. Here are a few other things you should know about the Awara Natural.
Off-gassing
Many bed-in-a-box mattresses, especially those made with memory foam, have a noticeable odor that can take hours to dissipate. When I opened the Awara box, there was a mild earthy scent, but it didn’t have the chemical tinge I’ve experienced with other mattresses. It was very mild and dissipated quickly.
Noise
The Awara is a hybrid mattress, which means it has a coil layer. I didn’t hear any noise when I moved around on the mattress, but the coils could start to squeak as time goes on.
Sex
Quick response time and uplifted support are hallmarks of good mattresses for sex, and the Awara offers both. Sexual partners should have no issues moving around.
Mattress Height
The Awara Natural is 10” tall, which is a bit thinner than other latex hybrids I’ve reviewed. The Awara doesn’t have a pillow top and it has a four-layer construction, so its thinner profile makes sense. If you prefer a thicker mattress, you may want to consider the 12” Awara Premier.
Sleeping Position and Weight
The Awara Natural should be a good option for most stomach sleepers. The firm feel and uplifting support should keep the hips properly elevated for neutral spinal alignment. Some back sleepers, particularly those who prefer a firmer feel, may also like the Awara, but those who like something in the medium-firm range should look elsewhere.
Heavyweight back sleepers like myself (I’m 6’7” and weigh over 270 lbs) will fare quite well. My weight is enough to compress the layers, so my hips sank in comfortably without pulling my spine out of alignment. However, those who weigh more than 300 lbs should look for a mattress made for heavy people to ensure proper support.
Most side sleepers will likely find the mattress far too firm. I felt serious pressure on my shoulders and hips when I rested on my side, and the same will be true for light and average weight side sleepers as well.

The Awara Premier is a higher end version of the Awara Natural mattress.. You get more latex on top (4” compared to the 2” in the Awara Natural) and it has a softer feel.
The Premier, which is a 6/10 on the firmness scale, should be better for side sleepers. However, it is going to cost more. You can expect to spend about $300 more in any mattress size if you opt for the Premier. Both mattresses share the 365-night sleep trial and Forever Warranty.
Awara Natural vs DreamCloud
The DreamCloud is a popular medium-firm mattress, and I found it softer than the Awara Natural. Instead of latex, it’s made with foam layers, so it’s not as bouncy and has more of a traditional pillow top feel than the Awara Natural. Based on my testing, the Dreamcloud is the better choice for most back sleepers, while the Awara is better suited to stomach sleepers.
In terms of performance, the Natural is likely going to be the more durable pick because of its latex layer. That material should also help the mattress sleep a bit cooler than the DreamCloud. On the other hand, you’ll spend less money on the DreamCloud and you’ll get a comparable 365-night sleep trial and lifetime warranty.
Awara Natural vs Nectar Classic
The Nectar Classic is an all-foam mattress that feels noticeably softer than the Awara Natural. It has a slow-moving memory foam feel, unlike the bouncy responsiveness of the Awara.
Because it’s softer, the Nectar is a better option for back and side sleepers, but it’s not as durable as the Awara. If budget is the primary consideration, you’ll spend less money on the Nectar mattress as well. Both mattress brands offer lifetime warranties and a 365-night home trial.
