Who Might Want To Pick The Solay:

  • Side Sleepers– With its soft foam layers on top, the Solay contours to your body, relieving pressure on shoulders, hips, and knees.
  • Those Who Don’t Like The Feeling Of Getting “Stuck” In Your Mattress– The foam layers recover quickly, giving pressure relief without you sinking in too much.
  • People Who Want A Longer Lasting Mattress– Because of its durable construction, if you are looking for a long-term investment, the Solay could be right for you.

Who Might Not Want To Pick The Solay:

  • Back Or Stomach Sleepers– The softer top layers may not provide enough support for back or stomach sleepers.
  • Those Who Like A Firmer Mattress– The Solay is softer than average and might not be a good fit if you prefer more support.
  • People Who Want That Classic Memory Foam Sinking Feel– The Solay’s foam layers recover very quickly, so you won’t experience that slow compression found with regular memory foam.

Construction Overview

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect in the construction of this mattress:

  • The mattress is 11″ tall and consists of four foam layers and a layer of pocketed support coils.
  • The cover is made from TENCEL, which is a thin fabric regulates temperature and allows people to feel the next layers fairly well.
  • The next layer is 1” of cooling gel foam with pretty fast recovery.
  • Next is 2” of Energex foam, which recovers faster than most memory foam and reduces motion transfer.
  • A 1” support layer is found above the 6” of pocketed steel spring coils. The coils give extra support to the heavier parts of the body where people feel the most pressure.
  • The base layer is 1” of foundational foam that the support coils can rest on.

Construction Takeaways

  • The Solay is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King.
  • The top layers are soft and, if someone weighs above average, they may press down and reach the coil system, making the mattress feel firmer overall.
  • The top two layers of foam are designed to recover quickly so people won’t have trouble getting out of bed.
  • The pocketed coil system lends a level of support and contouring while giving relief at pressure points.
  • The coil system is also designed to increase airflow. Together with the breathable TENCEL cover, this makes for a cooler sleep experience than people would get with a pure memory foam mattress.

Firmness/Feel

The Solay gives a nice foam feel but prevents people from sinking in and feeling “stuck.” Pressing hard, I can feel the support of the coil system. Still, with its foam top layers, the overall feel is softer than average compared to other mattresses reviewed on this website.

When I sleep on my side, I feel great pressure relief in key areas like my shoulders, hips, and knees. However, on my stomach and back, I do feel my hips sinking in because of this softness.

Motion Isolation

With its hybrid design of pocketed coils and memory foam, I expected the Solay to perform well. As you can see in the video, there is a little motion transfer but, overall, the isolation is a little bit above average. This makes the Solay a solid choice for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s movements.

Edge Support

The pocketed coil system features a reinforced edge, so people shouldn’t feel like they are going to fall off. This makes this mattress ideal if people sleep with a partner or prefer sleeping toward the edge. People can see the great edge support in the picture below.

What Makes This Mattress Stand Out

  • It combines the softness of memory foam with the support of coils to make a nice balance of comfort and support.
  • The fast recovering Energex and cooling gel foam give pressure relief without the feeling of getting stuck.
  • The pocketed coil system gives extra pressure relief under the heavier parts of your body.
  • The very durable construction means this mattress will be long-lasting.

There are a lot of nice aspects to this mattress, and those looking for a durable investment should enjoy the Solay. Side sleepers should find comfort from its foam top layers, while side and back sleepers may want to look for something firmer. Overall, I was impressed with this mattress.

The mattress is made in the USA and features a 101-night trial period and a 15-year limited warranty.
