Saatva vs Tuft and Needle Mattress Comparison

People are hearing more and more about Saatva and Tuft And Needle, as well as the other newer online-only companies, and it’s natural that they would want to know how the different mattresses compare to each other.  In this case, I think the Saatva and Tuft & Needle mattresses are quite different, so there are some pretty clear reasons why people would want to choose one over the other.  I’ll try to lay out those differences as quickly and clearly as I can here.

Construction / Feel

Saatva has an innerspring construction that has a more traditional mattress feel.  Tuft & Needle is a mattress made of polyfoam, so the feel between the two is quite different.  If people don’t like foam mattresses, then Saatva would seem to be the clear choice for them.  In my opinion, they both have pretty similar firmness, but the overall feel is quite different.  To make things as simple as possible, I would think back to the mattresses people have had in the past.  If someone is used to the innerspring feel and prefers it, then they will probably want to go with Saatva.  If someone is used to foam mattresses and prefer them, then the Tuft & Needle will be more appropriate for them.

Price

This is a key difference as well.  The Tuft & Needle Queen is $895.00, and that includes free shipping.  The Saatva Queen is $2095.00, but that doesn’t include shipping.  I don’t think there’s any question that the components of the Saatva are more expensive, so people are paying more to get more, but they will have to balance that against the price difference.  Both represent very great value. Customer Service / Trial Period / Return Policy

Both companies are known for having phenomenal customer service, and they also have a great trial period and customer-friendly return policy.  While there are small differences here, people shouldn’t base their decision on which company potentially has better customer service or a better return policy because they are both very good.

Who Should Go For The Saatva?

If someone is deciding between the two companies, the decision can potentially be relatively straightforward.  The Saatva should be thought of as a great alternative to the big brand name innerspring mattresses.  It can be a great option even for someone who is used to pure foam mattresses, but it is recommended mainly for people who are used to and like the innerspring feel.

Who Should Go For The Tuft & Needle?

The Tuft & Needle is potentially the best mattress at its price point.  However, the key words there are “price point.”  The Saatva has a more substantial feel to it, but there isn’t really any mattress on the market that can beat the T&N at its price.  If someone likes foam mattresses, then the Tuft And Needle will suit them better than Saatva.  If someone has budget concerns or don’t plan on having the mattress for 12-15 years, then go for the Tuft And Needle.

Is One Better Than The Other?

Personally I prefer the Saatva, but others may prefer the Tuft and Needle (especially if price is a major factor).  The decision between Tuft and Needle vs Saatva should be very easy, it really depends on someone’s personal preferences and their budget.
