On the hunt for an inexpensive memory foam mattress? You may want to consider the Octave Vista.

The mattress hails from our neighbors to the North, and according to the Octave, it’s been called “Canada’s Most Innovative Mattress.” I tested the mattress myself to see just how innovative it really is. Read my full Octave Vista mattress review to learn more.

Octave Vista Mattress Review: General Overview

The Octave Vista is one of three mattresses in the Octave line-up. It’s the brand’s entry-level bed, with a price point to match.

But, there’s still a lot to love about the Octave Vista. This medium-firm memory foam mattress offers zoned support and cooling upgrades and should work for many types of sleepers. Let’s break down Octave Vista’s pros and cons.

Pros of the Octave Vista Comfort Mattress

  • With its medium-firm feel and three layers of specialty foam, the mattress is a great option for back sleepers, who can expect a nice balance of comfort and support.
  • Fans of memory foam will like its slow-moving feel and the way it really contours to the body.
  • Thanks to cooling upgrades in the cover and foam layers, even hot sleepers shouldn’t be waking up hot and sweaty.

Cons of the Octave Vista Comfort Mattress

  • Heavier people will need a more supportive mattress to keep aches and pains at bay.
  • Fans of responsive mattresses should look elsewhere—they may find themselves getting “stuck” in the mattress when they try to change positions at night.
  • As an entry-level, budget-friendly mattress, the Octave Vista isn’t really your best bet if you’re looking for a long-term investment.

Octave Vista Firmness and Feel

The firmness and feel of a mattress really lets you know what sleeping positions it will work best for. Here’s how the Octave Vista felt to me.

How Firm is the Octave Vista Mattress?

I ranked the Octave Vista a 7/10 on our firmness scale. That’s slightly above the industry standard for medium-firm mattresses, which is why it works so well for back sleepers. Keep in mind that bodyweight directly affects how firm a mattress feels to you, though. Heavier sleepers, myself included, sink more deeply into mattresses, which can make them feel softer. Lighter sleepers, meanwhile, may not compress the upper layers as much, giving the mattress a firmer feel.

Sleeping on the Octave Vista Mattress

The Octave Vista was a good fit for me when I tested it on my back. The support foam held me up and the top comfort layer took the shape of my body.

When I rolled to my side, I noticed some pressure along my hips and shoulders. Lighter side sleepers may find this isn’t an issue, but it’s something to keep in mind.

I needed more support when I rested on my stomach. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough support in the foam layers to keep my hips properly elevated. Even with the firmer center, the mattress didn’t give me quite enough support where I needed it. Check out our best mattresses for stomach sleepers page for more options instead.

What Does the Octave Vista Mattress Feel Like?

The Octave Vista has the signature slow-moving feel of traditional memory foam. It contours closely to every curve of the body, and you get the comfy feeling that you’re being hugged. This is definitely a mattress that you sink into instead of resting on top of it.

Average (130-230 lb)GoodFairGood
Heavyweight (over 230 lb)GoodPoorPoor

Is the Octave Vista Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?

  • Lightweight back sleepers should feel balanced comfort and support.
  • Side sleepers will likely get enough softness from the top layer, which means they should feel little to no pressure point pain.
  • Stomach sleepers should also find this mattress gives them enough support under the hips.

Is the Octave Vista Mattress Good For Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?

  • Back sleepers in this weight range should do just fine on this mattress, which should offer plenty of comfort and support.
  • Side sleepers below 200 lb will likely get enough pressure relief, but those who weigh more could feel more pressure on their shoulders and hips.
  • Stomach sleepers who are closer to 130 lb should also get enough support. Dedicated stomach sleepers who weigh more than that will need a mattress with even more support.

Is the Octave Vista Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?

  • Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh closer to 230 lb should get enough support on the Octave Vista.
  • Side sleepers will feel too much pressure on their shoulders and hips, so this mattress isn’t a good fit.
  • Stomach sleepers, likewise, probably will not get enough support. Heavyweight stomach sleepers should look at one of our best mattresses for heavy people

Octave Vista Mattress Construction

Let’s take a closer look at the construction of the Octave Vista, from the cooling cover to its three specialty foam layers.

Octave Vista construction

Cover

The cover of this mattress is woven with the brand’s proprietary Cryofusion cooling nanofibres. It’s a fancy title for fibers that feel cool to the touch and stay that way throughout the night.

Comfort Layers

The top layer of the Octave Vista is made with high-performance memory foam that features two cooling technologies. First is the copper infusion, which helps pull excess heat from the body. The, a PolarMAX phase-change infusion absorbs and dispels body heat to keep you cool all night long.

In the third layer, premium Elastex Foam serves as a transition layer and adds additional cushioning. The foam also adds just a bit of bounce to the mattress.

Support Layers

The base of the mattress is made with durable, high-density support foam. Air channels let air move through the bottom part of the mattress to boost breathability, and five separate pressure-relief zones offer targeted support and comfort.

Mattress Height

The Octave Vista is 12” thick.

Octave Vista Mattress Performance

I ran through multiple tests to determine how the Octave Vista’s performed on temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support and more. Here’s how it did on the tests.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

All-foam mattresses made with memory foam aren’t generally as breathable as hybrid mattresses. But the cooling upgrades in the cover and foam layers of the Octave Vista do a good job of wicking and funneling away heat. For an all-foam mattress, it should sleep quite cool. And, it’s also surprisingly cool to the touch.

Motion Transfer

Memory foam does a fantastic job of isolating motion, so transfer should be minimal on this mattress. That makes it a good option for couples.

Edge Support

The Octave Vista came up short on edge support, which is pretty typical with all-foam mattresses. When I sat near the edge, the mattress collapsed under my weight. People with mobility issues or couples who like to really stretch out and sleep all the way to the edge should keep that in mind.

Octave Vista Edge Support

Durability

The Octave Vista is a simpler all-foam mattress, and it does not feature coils. It’s reasonable to expect it to last at least seven years, but it probably won’t last as long as a latex or hybrid mattress. Most mattresses last seven to 10 years, so this is on the lower end.

Off-gassing

Off-gassing is common with memory foam mattresses fresh out of the box. We did experience a mild chemical scent with the Octave Vista, but it went away after a few days.

Noise

The mattress got high marks here. I didn’t notice any noise at all, no matter how much I moved.

Sex

The slow-moving foam of the Octave Vista is a sign that it’s probably not the best mattress for sex. The conforming foam is great for isolating motion, but it can make it difficult for sexual partners to move around.

Octave Vista Company Policies

When you buy a mattress online, it’s important to be read the fine print on warranty, sleep trial, and return policy. Let’s take a closer look at what Octave offers.

Warranty

The Vista mattress has a 15-year warranty that covers specific defects. Like other manufacturers, Octave’s warranty may be voided if the mattress isn’t used on a suitable base.

Sleep Trial

Octave offers a generous 365-night sleep trial, which gives you plenty of time to decide if it’s a good fit for your sleeping preferences.

Return Policy

If you decide the Vista isn’t the mattress of your dreams, returns can be initiated at any point between 21 and 365 days after delivery. Returns aren’t accepted once the sleep trial is over.

Common Octave Vista Mattress Complaints

We read through customer reviews for an idea of what people have experienced with the Vista mattress. We found that some customers had trouble with the online shopping process. They received unwanted products or the prices didn’t match up with what they originally expected.

How Does The Octave Vista Compare To Others

If you’re shopping for an affordable memory foam mattress, it’s always a good idea to do some comparison shopping. Here’s how the Octava Vista compares to other budget-friendly memory foam mattresses.

Octave Vista vs Nectar

AirTable block

The original Nectar is softer than the Octave Vista mattress, so it may be a better option for dedicated side sleepers. Both mattresses are similarly priced, but fans of the slow-moving feel of memory foam will get more of that experience with the Octave Vista. If you prefer a bit of bounce in your mattress, the Nectar is the better option.

Octave Vista vs Bear Original

Fans of soft mattresses will find the Bear Original mattress delivers, so it’s a good pick for side sleepers who need the extra cushioning along their hips and shoulders. But hot sleepers will prefer the cooling upgrades of the Octave Vista.

Octave Vista FAQs

What is the lifespan of an Octave Vista mattress?

The Octave Vista is a no-frills memory foam mattress, and you can reasonably expect it to last about seven years.

Can you flip an Octave Vista mattress?

Like many modern mattresses, the Octave Vista isn’t designed to be flipped. It should only rest with the support layers on the bottom.

What is the difference between the Octave Vista and Octave Mirage?

The Mirage is a higher-end mattress that offers more memory foam in the uppermost layers. That adds additional softness and greater pressure relief. The Mirage also features more cooling materials, so it’s a better choice for hot sleepers.
